  1. You can not talk to them about politics and still be friends. I have friendships like that. If they turn out to be horrible people, then that's another story.
  2. I'm not talking about running the same nine guys out there every day. I am talking about having 13 useful players with whom to mix and match. I would argue that, on a team that mixes and matches a lot, it's even more difficult to carry Cabrera.
  3. OK. I'd prefer they start getting serious now. I don't think any team in the division is going to run away this year. I don't expect the Tigers to contend all year, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.
  4. I have always assumed that greed ALWAYS plays at least a minor role in inflation.
  5. How far into the season would they need to be within striking distance of first place before you considered them a contender?
  6. Yeah, Griffey was pretty bad. Not quite as bad, but fairly close.
  7. Not too many elite players have had this many bad years at the end of their careers? Pujols came close before surprisingly going out with a bang his final season. Pete Rose ended poorly, but not this bad.
  8. I don't hate Cabrera or expect him to retire. Management should have figured out a way to get him off the team. I don't really get why fans want a retirement tour, but apparently some do. Watching him be terrible is not good for his legacy. It only hurts his legacy and hurts the team. And it's not like it's just one bad year. This has been going on for a long time.
  9. What other teams have players as bad as Cabrera who they continue to play on a regular basis? He's not some role player which a team carries because of his defense or versatilty. He is useless in every phase of the game. He is only playing for non-baseball reasons. There is no baseball reason which can justify his being on the roster.
  10. I am glad I live in a state where that is illegal.
  11. Or a young black man standing there with an AR-15.
  12. That sounds like a weak excuse for using a sub-par player. They are 3 1/2 games out of first place and should to be trying to win all the time.
  13. I'm taking early bets for dates in the Skenes career ending injury pool.
  14. Yeah, it was 2005. They were right around .500 most of the year until they collapsed in September. Many fans kept saying it was a mental thing where they would get up to .500 over and over and then fall back. I just figured they weren't that good.
  15. Avila did not seem to be a GM motivated by panic. If anything, he seemed to have the opposite problem of moving too slowly.
  16. I'll just add that I think his big SLG year was an outlier rather than his standard year and that the next year was not really a decline. We will never really know though since he is now messed up and may never even play again.
  17. It may have been a misreading of Paredes' talent, but I don't think it was a panic move I get the feeling the Tigers didn't regard Paredes highly for whatever reason. He seemed ready to be given a major league opportunity and they seemed reluctant to give it to him. I don't think Meadows power was clearly on the decline since he hit for pretty good power in 2021. I would have been very happy with 27 home runs from him again in 2022
  18. Every time they need a kick in the ass, Hinch is going to pull Baez.
  19. They have a mental block about .500. It's 2004 all over again (or was in 2005?)
  20. The Braves became my favorite NL team for a while.
  21. I also remember Rennie Stennett getting seven hits in nine innings.
  22. I just remember seeing the box score and thinking it had to be an error.
  23. Both are injury risks, but as long as Lorenzon and Rodriguez are on a roll the Tigers should not suffer any long slumps. Both have been pleasant surprises.
  24. As Bill Ferris pointed out, one and a half cycles for Keith.
  25. It's not that unusual. I don't like fake exaggerated laughs, but I see it often.
