Are the homes necessarily being bought by large investors? Couldn't it be a trend where smaller stock market investors who became millionaires over the past decade have decided to invest in something real?

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
Tiger337 replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
Roughly only five guys are professional DHs each year, but that's about a third of the league. I remember when the DH first started in 72. I was young, so I may have the details wrong, but I remember there was discussion as to how it would work. Would the DH be connected to the pitcher or would he be a tenth position with no relation to the pitcher. Some felt the former was more logical. Others thought the latter would be good because it would help extend the careers of old players who couldn't play a position anymore. They went with the latter and I wish that they hadn't.- 1,851 replies

I actually like that. I like it when teams have to make roster and line-up decisions about their unskilled players. That is an interesting part of the game.- 1,851 replies

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
Tiger337 replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
My annual upopular opinion about pitchers hitting: Just don't have them hit and let the other eight players bat. Then we don't have to watch pitchers who can't hit and we don't have to watch old slow boring DHs. We also get to see the best hitters come up more often. The argument is that it goes goes against tradition, but so didn't the DH when it first started. If they have to have a DH, they should limit the number of plate appearances a hitter can have at DH. What would be most logical is to pair the DH with the pitcher. When the pitcher leaves the game, you have to get a new DH for the new pitcher. If you are designated to hit for someone, you leave the game when they do. I have never liked the idea of a professional DH who only hits and does nothing else. That's not a baseball player.- 1,851 replies

For a while now, I have seen Sheehan as some guy on twitter with contrarian opinions. He seems to be just living off his past work and is no more credible than anyone here.- 1,851 replies

Yeah, for one thing, I think time zone would be a lot more important than distance.- 1,851 replies

Nothing is going to happen to them. They are wealthy.

That was my point too, While the interchangeability argument makes sense, I don't think that is MLB's reasoning.- 1,851 replies

It was originally done because the AL wanted more hitting. I think injuries are a legitimate concern. I don't think interchangeability of positions was ever a consideration other than to rationalize why they don't do it like football.- 1,851 replies

Thank you, I have decided to go with 165 instead of 160. 🙂

Both cutoffs tell the same story, that is, their pitchers have very little experience pitching a full season of innings. I could have used 162 since 162 innings is what a pitcher needs to qualify for the ERA title. Another number I could have chosen was 165 which would say that a pitcher had 33 starts (a full season) averaging five innings per start.

It's a real organization. It's antifa that doesn't exist as an organization.

I can definitely see the pitching being bad. They have one pitcher in their roation that has ever pitched over 160 innings and he has done it only once. I can also see them being good if the young pitchers emerge quickly and stay healthy. It's a big question mark though.

I think Baez would only be a 1.4 WAR player if his defense is sub-par.
-
I think most systems have them under .500. The Tigers are counting on a lot of young players and young players don't usually have good projections.
-
That is harsh. Most systems have him between 2.5-3.0 WAR.

This is a bit elitist, but still funny:

I got a chance to talk to Beckman down in Lakeland as he was waiting for his interview show to start. He was very friendly and patiently answered all my questions.
