How is that a push back? They lost because of bad pitching like you said. If they manufactured runs instead of hit homers, they still would have lost because of bad pitching. They scored a lot of runs and they would have won a lot of games if they had good pitching. Now, most teams in baseball try to hit the way the early 90s Tigers hit except it's even more extreme now. It used be exciting when the Tigers were the only ones doing it. Now, it's boring because everybody is doing it. There is no variation.

I remember everybody used to say that team couldn't win because all they did was try to hit home runs and they struck out too much. it never occurred to them that they had one of the best offenses in baseball and didn't win because their pitching was terrible.

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?

Manfred will give us some BS about about how they are working hard and made a fair offer and he wants to start the season on time, but the players are not negotiating in good faith.- 1,851 replies

I have never paid much attention to it, especially now that I work at home most of the time. I don't know how much particular items of food cost either. I notice that the total price has gone up, but it would have anyway because I have switched to Instacart which means there is a service fee and a tip. I notice how much things that I don't need cost more than things that I need to survive.

An hour wait is not easy. If it took that long for me I probably wouldn't bother most years. It takes me about 15 minutes to vote in person.

I called a lot of Tettleton homers! I could tell by the look on his face! I am sure there were a lot of false positives, but that's not what I remember. Everyone used to talk about Fielder, but Tettleton was better and even more fun.

That doesn't indicate that their drafting and international signings have gotten better.

I don't like going to restaurants, so Covid has been a good excuse not to go! I prefer takeout.

I think it's because both parties are terrible and people are embarrassed to belong to a party. I will never belong to a party because they are both more interested in serving Wall Street than the people. I have generally voted Democrat because the stuff they pretend to care about is better than the stuff the Republicans pretend to care about. Plus, the Republican party is now a pathetic joke ever since Trump took over.

Looking up his stats, it is surprising that he had only 127 PA in 2021. I thought it was more than that. That isn't nearly enough for me to be sold on him.- 1,851 replies

I don't think Verlander was dropped because of bad contracts. They easily could have kept him and still had a very reasonable budget. I liked almost none of their trades during the re-build. The re-build seemed to be mostly dumping salaries for second and third tier prospects and collecting high draft picks.- 1,851 replies

I wish there were more right of center people. Most of the vocal people who briefly join the conversation here are angry extremists who try to troll us. I like hearing what you and Eswieg and few others have to say.

That has been true only since MAGA started. Practically every right wing politician has either become radicalized or enables the radicals because they don't want to lose the MAGA base. It's a mess. I remember dropping by this forum prior to MAGA and thinking that it was very balanced.

Very good point. The United States has one of the highest obesity rates and lowest lifepans among developed countries. It's a huge problem in general and definitely a big contributor to Covid deaths. As an aside, if you take away immigrants, we would be doing even worse. I also wonder what percentage of vaxers and anti-vaxers are obese. Given the that the red states have very high obesity rates, I'd bet that there is a high percentage of obese among the unvaccinated.

Another thing I wouldn't mind seeing is for the draft to be based on team records through the trade deadline. That would help rid the perception that teams are tanking late in the season.- 1,851 replies

If everybody wants to win, why do we have threads where everyone roots for the Tigers to finish last? If the fans want to finish last, perhaps the front office secretly wants the same.- 1,851 replies

Yes, getting one of the top 8 picks for five years in a row should make a team get better. You are assuming that the Tigers will get unlucky in the lottery. Did you ever think that they might finish with the eighth worst record and then WIN the lottery? Detroit sports fans are great (at least the Tigers fans are!), but they are very pessimistic.- 1,851 replies

I don't know if it would make a difference, but I would like to see a lottery based on principle. Teams should not be rewarded for being terrible. An 8-team lottery would help teams in need get better without rewarding incompetence.- 1,851 replies
