  1. That makes it sound like he's using the Tigers to drive up the price.
  2. What happens if public schools create an environment based on MAGA ideals? Will the shared experience and cultural references still provide a better net social outcome?
  3. Are baseball managers like typical middle managers? It seems to me that baseball managers have a direct daily influence on their players which I think gives then a lot of opportunity to form strong bonds with players. Players also have a strong union which I think makes them as much opponents of upper management as they are employees.
  4. But if you mix the Nazi kids in with the other kids, the Nazi kids will bully them
  5. Are there people that actually think grocery prices will go down? We ALWAYS have inflation. Food prices are not going down ever.
  6. Inflation is lower than it was before the inflation reduction act, so maybe it's doing OK. Or maybe it was gong to start getting better anyway because we are further away from peak Covid. You are right about magic wands. No President has a magic wand which controls the economy. In fact, they are limited in what they can do to fix the economy, especially short term. Have you ever heard Trump talk? Not just edited sound clips but actually talk for several minutes? He doesn't know **** about any policy issue. I see no magic there. Any good results that happen will have to come from elsewhere.
  7. What policy are we talking about?
  8. What if you have educated parents who live in a town with a terrible school system? Chances are they might send their kid to a private school, but what if they didn't want to spend the money and home schooled ther childen?
  9. None of us have been a major league baseball manager, so I guess we can't comment, but I'm just saying he didn't have the respect of the players and I vew that as a negative. I think there are managers who would have handled it better. I am very happy with Hinch as the Tigers manager. I believe if the same thing happened to him in Detroit, the players would be more inclined to listen to him.
  10. And I still don't agree. He was the manager and he didn't have the players respect enough to get them to stop. I don't think that would have happened to Leyland or Anderson. I don't think anyhing like that will happen to Hinch again either. Hinch is great now so I don't care, but I will always view the Houston incident as a bad mark on his record.
  11. I understand why people are weary of Bregman. However, I think their payroll is low enough where it's reasonable to extend Greene and Skubal and also make a significant signing.
  12. I lived in a boring white suburban middle class town, so I wasn't exposed to much. Just boring white middle class kids being shallow and treating each other badly. A far as learning how to think, I got a lot out of my education. I got that at home too. I was just commenting on the importance of socialization from schools.
  13. I think home schooling is fine for some kids if they have educated parents with time for home schooling. It also helps if they are involved in sports or other activities. School socialization was an unpleasant experience for me and I don't think I benefitted much from it.
  14. Big Pharma gave us the opioid crisis and ridiculous prices for precriptions that people need to survive. **** them! I understand the point you are trying to make but you are way over generalizing based on a small percentage of hippies you may know.
  15. I have probably forgotten what board I am on at times and said political stuff in here, but I do try to avoid it. The shaming is effective. I mean nobody likes being scolded by screwball. 😃 Plus, we already have dozens of political threads. It's nice to keep his one as politics free as possible.
  16. Of all the stupid MAGA things, what's most likely to destroy our country quickest is not end of democracy, bigotry and the other bad stuff we worry about. It is anti-science/ anti-education/ lack of interest in the truth. I don't think we can last very long as a strong country if we continue down that road.
  17. Bregman's arm has been rated the same the last four years, but like you said, I don't know what that means.
  18. Good questions. BB% usually stays consistent. It's not a skill that someone suddenly loses unless they change their approach. His swing rate was way up which suggests he may have been adjusting to the line-up around him. Since it didn't make him a better hitter, it seems like he'd be better off going back to his old approach.
  19. When Pudge signed, the team was garbage. He made them respectable. This team is already respectable. If they make any big moves, they will be made with the post-season in mind.
  20. Vina always gave 110%. He would run through a brick wall to win a game.
  21. It does matter. The stats don't really matter, but whether he has learned what he needs to learn to start in the majors does matter.
  22. Same as it's been for decades and the middle class keeps shrinking. The economy is always good if you are wealthy. It's never good if you're not.
  23. This particular thread tries to stay away from political trolling. Take it to the election threads.
  24. Nobody said it. He was a reliever last year and they need to limit his innings this year and having him relieve for a period of time might be the best way to do that. your original post quoting the Free Press article said: "Scott Harris hasn't promised Jobe will be in the starting rotation as a member of the 2025 opening day roster". That could mean that he'll be on the roster, but not in the rotation.
