  1. I think Rob Miller is Sportz.
  2. Is this the bold predictions thread?
  3. Even the good ones don't generally have high success rates in trading proven players for prospects at the deadline though. It's better to get something than nothing, but the teams receiving the proven players usually have the upper hand.
  4. "It shows that she is a phony just like all the lefties. That's what I like about Trump. He is honest and straightforward. He's not a politician. People just hate him because he posts mean tweets."
  5. I don't want to see an "evaluation year". They've been doing that for like 7 years now. I want to see a competive team. They can be reasonably competitive and continue to develop young players at the same time. Skubal, Olson, Jobe, another signing like Flaherty/Lorenzon plus Mize makes a solid front five. There are always relievers available, add a couple of secondary bats and try to win. If it's not working at the deadlinem then call it an evaluation season.
  6. Because he's easy to manipulate.
  7. I always thought that the end of the Trump era would be when people just get tired of him.
  8. yeah, Anderson was "Captain Hook", but his 85 and 86 teams underachieved.
  9. She graduated from Howard University. I doubt she would have gone there if she didn't identify as Black. Her mother was from India, so she surely identifies as Indian too. There are millions of biracial people in this country who don't choose one race as their identity.
  10. He was viewed as brilliant in 2006, but not as much after that. I recall him being viewed as someone who was tough but knew and cared about his players much like Anderson.
  11. I remember Stan said he didn't like ice cream.
  12. Yes, they are very impressive, but I wouldn't want the Tigers to emulate them too much for two reasons: (1) No other team has been able to do what they do (2) It wouldn't be that much fun to follow a team with no roster continuity.
  13. So, they had three of the greatest athletes this century. They let one walk, traded another for very little return and signed the wrong one long term.
  14. I have no problem with the collection of moves made at the deadline. However, the moves were made because this season has been a failure as have the last several sesons. I am not blaming Harris for that, but I do appreciate the honesty from the Toronto GM: https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/ross-atkins-apologizes-blue-jays-fans
  15. You are not turning any Trumpers. None of them. You need to boost turnout. I don't understand what moves the masses, but getting more people to vote should be be the strategy.
  16. Although I will say that the right wing anti-woman campaign is a whole lot worse strategy!
  17. I am so not worried about their feelings getting hurt. I am concerned that playing their game will backfire.
  18. I don't think you can build for the World Series. You can only build to get into the playoffs as often as possible and hope you win the whole thing some year. Since the Orioles can probably make the playoffs the next few years without Skubal., it makes sense that they would not trade multiple young players to get him. Dombrowski went all in for stars and it made the team better but didn't get him a World Series. It made more sense in his case though because he never had the kind of young core that was going to win consisently without making big acquisitions.
  19. Also, I don't really think there are any metrics that project pitcher performance really well (at last not the public data). They have gotten better for sure, but there is still a lot of variation.
  20. The Bloomberg Morning Consult poll looked really good today: Harris +11 in Michigan Harris +2 in Arizona Harris +2 in Wisconsin Harris +2 in Nevada. Tied in Georgia
  21. Has anyone here tried using twitter without logging in? It is one scary site when I do that. I get bombarded with absolute right wing madness. Once I get into my account, I can avoid most of it as long as I don't click on trending topics which are mostly right wing conspiracy theories.
  22. As much as Trump and all the other turds in his circle deserve it, I don't like the weird campaign for a couple of reasons. First, calling people weird kind of goes against the whole diversity and inclusion message. Second, I think it might backfire on them bcause they will be seen as elitists who think they are better than MAGAs. It's similar to the basket of deplorables remark by Clinton in 2016. It's OK when Tim Walz does it because he knows how to say it and he doesn't come across as elitist, but others won't get away with it.
  23. Yes, I am not disappointed with the return, because it's about what I expected. I continue to be disappointed that they are not in a position where they are getting the proven player.
