  1. I think players will be more likely to gamble if it is not taboo just like they were more likely to take PEDs before it became taboo. The bigger issue is there will be a lot more non-players gambling and lot more different types of bets which opens up the door for really wealthy gamblers with big stakes pressuring players to do unethical things. At the very least, it is no longer possible to trust MLB to consider the games best interests given their complete change of stance on gambling. Not that we could trust them a lot before that, but now it's completely gone.
  2. I think MLB going from an environment of completely banning gambling and considering it the game's biggest taboo to openly encouraging gambling could change player's behavior.
  3. And we know that wealthy people never do corrupt things.
  4. Here's something different. The Orioles want to DECREASE home runs. Most teams have been trending in the opposite direction in recent years.
  5. They are also actively partnering with gambling organizations who might have some ideas of what baseball should do. I am not a gambler, so I am curious what kind of game gamblers would want (beyond pace of game). Do they like the home runs and strikeouts or would they prefer more action? Do they even care?
  6. I think he might cravck if the media ignored him, but they like to give him attention as much as he likes to receive it.
  7. They have been talking about speeding it up. They could go in another direction if they decide that something else is more profitable. If they are going to have in game prop bets, it just seems like slower would be better.
  8. It would be the same amount of action. However, with more dead time, there is more time for gamblers to make bets, so speeding up the game might not be profitable.
  9. Yeah, I know who he's talking about. Judging people's opinions based strictly on what country they are from is a strange way to go through life.
  10. I am talking about individuals having opinions, not countries working against each other One example: I think our gun laws are too lax. If some random guy from Canada says that our gun laws are too lax, I'll agree with him. If some random guy from the United States says we need more guns on the streets, I'll disagree with him.
  11. I predict there will be a scandal in major professional sports involving prop bets at some point. It might have already happened, but nobody has been caught yet.
  12. I have never understood why so many fans care about that. How much money the owners make has zero effect on my enjoyment of the game.
  13. If what they say is right, then sure I'll agree with them. Why not?
  14. I am definitely concerned about gambling. I was going to add it to my list, but it hasn't become a problem yet.
  15. The old farts would come back. The new fans want DINGERS AND JACKS AND BAT FLIPS.
  16. As much as I hate an kind of advertisement, I agree they are not really the problem. The problem is not the length of games, but the pace of games. The delays between pitches slow down the pace considerably.
  17. I remember playing crab soccer in gym class as a kid. It was boring.
  18. I was hoping seven inning games and free baserunners were going solve the problem.
  19. That's usually the only reason I watch it.
  20. That is how I got started. Then I eventually got to the point where I was watching most of the games. In the past few years, I have trended back to the radio.
  21. Multiple reasons: (1) Games have gotten too slow. (2) There is not enough action - too many home runs and strikeouts. (3) Free runners in extra innings! I can't watch that at all. (4) Too much emphasis on playoffs and that's just going to get worse. (5) Elimination of my favorite minor league teams. (6) Other stuff in my life not related to baseball. The Tigers getting better will help, but I don't like the direction the game is heading.
  22. My interest in the game has waned considerably the past few years. I still like it and continue to follow the stats and story lines closely, but I am spending a lot less time watching games.
  23. I am intrigued by the USFL, but mostly because it brings back memories. I was in my early 20s when the league last existed and I thought it was cool that a new football league started and was able to attract some star players. I don't think I'll pay too much attention this time around, although there is an opportunity to troll Patriots fans by pretending to care about it more than the NFL.
