I don't like the idea of a split season because it goes against tradition. However, If they expand the playoffs to 16 teams which I am pretty sure they will, then the regular season becomes almost meaningless. So, I wouldn't be upset if they did the half season thing. Seeing a team win a half season is more exciting than watching teams battle for 16th place. It's not like they are having two distinct halves with playoffs at mid-season. I also think the team that wins the first half probably would be one of the top 16 teams at the end anyway.

I don't know what the magic number is now. Edman and Chas got me all confused. The only solution is getting rid of divisions, make the schedule as balanced as possible and take the top six teams in each league.

You could say that about every single political topic today. My life was better when I didn't think about politics. It's hard to ignore it today though. In my case, it is affecting every facet of my job. There is no getting away from it.

I have read a lot about the Marichal/Roseboro incident before, but I had never seen that video. They either did not capture the initial attack or edited it out. It is possible that it was edited out because it was reportedly shocking and sickening. It,of course, would not be edited out today. There would be so many versions of it, that it would show up somewhere. I did see #27 Marichal with a raised bat during the brawl. I saw #28 Wes Parker with a bat too. He was playing first base at the time, so I wonder where he got the bat. Did he run back to the dugout to get a bat, so he could defend his teammate?

The Republicans have always cut mental health and substance abuse treatment programs since I've been in the field. It might not always make the headlines, but it always happens. This year, more than others though.

I think I would start getting irritated if they became like Tampa Bay selling every player when they started to become expensive, but I am pretty satisfied with what he has done to this point. I have advocated being more aggressive about the present at times, but I'm not upset that he's not.

It was mostly just a flip remark about Veryzer. Anyone that can play that long must have had some value. Just being able to play a passable shortstop had some value back then. However, I don't remember him having an especially good glove for a shortstop and what stats are available don't support him being a good shortstop. My impression of him was that he had potential which he never lived up to, possibly because he didn't stay in shape. I remember him once being referred to in a Boston paper as "six pack Veryzer" which suggested he might have had another problem.

Of course people who shoot up schools have mental health problems and that should be addressed. People in other countries have mental health problems too, but there are far fewer mass killings. Why is that? People being disconnected from each other due to technology could certainly be part of the problem, but I can say with a lot of certainty that it's not going to get better. It is mostly likely going to get worse with AI.

Ed Romero played one year for the Tigers. I know it's just a fun list, but I think some of thosre guys might have been better fielders than their metrics suggested. There were a lot of utility players on the list and I have always suspected the metrics don't work well for them because they had small sample sizes at every position, so your combining a bunch of unstable numbers together. For example, I remember Flynn and Romero were regarded as good and versatile fielders, but who knows? I can confirm that Tom Veryzer did indeed suck though. I do remember Meyer's neck roll.
