  1. I don't like the Giants because they won three World Series without ever being a great team making them pretty much everything I dislike about playoffs. It would be appropriate if they lost this year when they actually did have a great year.
  2. I played for the Cubs, Tigers, Giants and Indians. The Giants manager was a dbag, but it was only one year. Everything else was good.
  3. I hate expanding the playoffs, but having the top two teams in each division is more appealing to me than eight wildcards.
  4. They won't shorten the season because then they'll lose money on attendance and milking as much money out of the game as they can is the whole point of expanded playoffs.
  5. If they sign both Correa and Verlander, their goal would be to make the playoffs in 2022. Is that likely? Maybe not, but I think it's reasonably attainable especially if they expand to 14 teams as expected. .
  6. I used to like watching every World Series. It had a mystique which is doesn't have now, at least for me. It could be because I was young and I thought it was important. It could be because before interleague play, the two World Series opponents had never faced each other before and never even faced their opponent's opponents. It could be because there are so many playoffs series now that the World Series just seems like another playoff series rather than something that determines a definitive champion.
  7. I would enjoy watching the Red Sox fail.
  8. I'll have the playoffs on in the background while I do something else, but I don't really have a rooting interest. I am not going to sit down for a full game getting excited about any particular team.
  9. I hope they get Barnhart, so we can call him "Pooch".
  10. Yes, if they want a real shortstop they are probably going to have to spend a large amount of money over a large number of years. If they don't want to spend money, they'll end up with someone like Goodrum. A lot of fans are talking about Kreidler and he had a nice year (other than the strikeouts) but he isn't someone you want to plan around.
  11. He can hit .280 no problem. If he wants to be a really important player, he'll need to draw walks (which will never happen) or hit for power
  12. Butternut squash is my favorite vegetable.
  13. This is exactly what they need and number three only needs to be a stop gap defense first catcher. The question is whether they will be willing to spend enough to get both (1) and (2).
  14. He won't hit enough to be a reguIar, but I think the power is for real. He can probably be a decent backup catcher for a couple of years.
  15. Shannon has been around baseball for a really long time. He almost died from kidney failure about 50 years ago.
  16. I just looked at his historical stats and you do have a point. Over the last five years, he has consistently hit much better with runners on base. So, here's the solution: make him a pinch hitter who bats once a game always in a key spot. Yeah, I know he needs to have three crappy at bats to keep his mind in the game for his one good at bat!
  17. Cabrera has a .386 slugging percentage. His RBI total is purely a function of opportunity. If his name was anything other than "Miguel Cabrera", he would not get that opportunity.
  18. There's got to be some money angle behind it. I'm not sure what it is though.
  19. Cabrera has a .707 OPS this year which isn't really fine if you are trying to make a playoff run. Everybody loves what he has done for the Tigers and some like watching him get milestones, but if they are able add some hitters and he's still playing every day in the middle of the line-up, he'll hurt the team.
  20. For what it's worth (not a lot), Heyman says the Tigers are interested in Correa. https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/1443985561270853673?s=20
  21. There will be 14 teams in the playoffs next year. Any team that doesn't make it really really does not deserve it.
  22. It's a competitive league with owners who are particularly knowledgeable about prospects. There are no sleepers because everyone stays on top of everything. I prefer roto over head to head, but I liked the draft and the trading and all the fantasy GM aspects of the league. I left because I have been spending more time on historical simulation leagues. I still have one roto league I've been in for 18 years, but that's it.
  23. I think a reason a hollow batting average player might be OK on the bench is because you can bring him up to pinch hit in situations where a hit is better than a walk.
