  1. Probably true, although I don't really expect Tigers to have a 5th outfielder. The fifth outfielder is probably a utility player who also plays infield.
  2. True, and there is nothing speculative about it. He actually said it.
  3. So, is this the Old Fart Tigers Forum now? I like it.
  4. One concern is if they go after mid-range guys and get burned. Without doing an analysis, those seem to be the guys that kill teams. I'd rather they go big on one guy and then look for some bargains.
  5. I was just looking at Victor Reyes' similarity scores on B-Ref. The second most similar player is Jim Thorpe!
  6. I would argue that it's always the right time from a fan's perspective.
  7. I expect them to spend more this winter. I don't know how much more, but I am confident they will try to put together a playoff team.
  8. It's about as good as you'll get in the wildcard era, but fighting for a wildcard game is not the same as battling for a division title, not to mention 7 consecutive one-run games between the top two teams. Next year when there are 14 teams, we'll get to watch a race between .500 teams battling for the 14th spot.
  9. I will never take Reyes seriously as a starter until he can either draw walks or hit for power. I am pretty sure he will never draw walks. So, he'll have to hit for power which also seems unlikely at this point. He is OK as a 4th outfielder.
  10. I remember the thrill of the pennant race more than the pain of the playoffs. There won't ever be another pennant race like that again.
  11. Yes, I realize it's all about money. As someone who enjoys the regular season more than the playoffs, I don't like it. I think it cheapens both the regular season and the playoffs.
  12. When you reward mediocrity, that is what you'll get.
  13. Probably no more or less than any other talented young player.
  14. Right, every player in baseball is tradeable in the right deal.
  15. He still does his gifs on twitter....oh that is twitter!
  16. I am all for it. I dislike the replay reviews because they slow down the game's momentum often at a key point in the game. They have made football unwatchable. It's not as bad in baseball, but still bad. I'd rather they get an out/safe call wrong once in a while than go through that. Balls and strikes are different though. Having inconsistent home plate umpires can destroy entire games. I am ready for an electronic strike zone.
  17. I only went to Tiger Stadium once - in 1984 - and I Ioved it. Tiger Stadium was probably an "awful stadium" the way Fenway Park is an awful Stadium. If you go to every game, Fenway is not the most comfortable place and sometimes you get crappy seats, but it is historic and unique, like Tiger Stadium. It's a park everyone when should visit once.
  18. Who is Archie? Is he totally new to the MTS environment or is it a name change? A name change is fine. I am just curious.
  19. That's not really true. Several posters here are conservatives or moderates who abandoned the Republican Party because it has turned into a joke. This forum is more anti-Trump than liberal.
  20. Statistically, Torkelson seems closer to being ready because Greene's K rate is so high. I am excited about Greene too, but I just have a feeling Tork will be ready sooner.
  21. I have been lurking. You guys already have such high post counts already and it's intimidating.
  22. I grew up listening to WJR. That and TSN were my only connection to the Tigers. I couldn't get day games, but the Reception was pretty good on clear nights. At times I had to hold the radio a certain way in order to get the games. Other times I had to figure out what was going on through the static. I got to be pretty good at following the game for an inning or two just hearing the intonation of Harwell's voice, the crowd sounds and the timing of commercials through the static.
