  1. Biden is a terrible speaker. They say a lot of untrue stuff about him, but that part is true. Obviously Trump was terrible too.
  2. Yes, my life was better when I was ignorant of politics. I should get back to that.
  3. 14 teams are going to be in the playoffs. So, even if a few teams have more resources than all the other teams, there are still plenty of opportunities for poorer teams to win. nothing is required. The owners just want to keep salaries as low as possible.
  4. Difference between clip and magazine:
  5. I got out of FCNTX about a month ago after being in it for about 15 years. I also invested in GLD at the beginning of the year which turned out to be a good move. It's not enough to avoid the pain though. Most of my money is still in either SP500 or Bond mutual funds which of course are getting killed.
  6. I don't really care as most of the issues don't affect me as a fan. I just favor the players over the owners. The players are why I watch the game.
  7. Trump bailed out again for 500th time in 40 years.
  8. I would like to see the minor leaguers treated a lot better, but I don't feel bad for the Major League players. I would rather see the players win than the owners, but it's not a social justice issue.
  9. Yeah, I understand that, but it's still refreshing to hear about a player who does enjoy the games's history.
  10. Does he still write rambling post-retirement articles about how everything was better in the 1930s and how current players don't respect the game and fancy analysis has ruined the game? At first, I found him annoying, but it was so perfect it became amusing after a while which may have been Detroit News' intention.
  11. I have always wondered how many players are really into baseball history and would follow the current game closely if they didn't have to. Surely, there are some, but I imagine they spend most of their efforts getting stronger and honing their skills and are less interested in things like history.
  12. That would have been 1940s for me. I knew Peewee Reese and Lou Boudreau, but I know that a lot of (most?) kids wouldn't know them.
  13. buddha types faster than me.
  14. Right, he wanted more money
  15. At what point do people finally figure out that they are being robbed?
  16. He was dividing the league into two levels, so we can have relegation.
  17. Big divisions are better than small divisions, but with half the teams making the playoffs, it's not going to matter anyway. The regular season is going to meaningless.
  18. Ohtani will still bat. Also, there is a rule where if a team is forced to move a DH to a defensive position they lose the DH for the rest of the game and the pitcher has to bat.
  19. They are worth less in baseball than other sports, but talent evaluation has improved a lot over the last couple of decades. Would we be so optimistic about the Tigers future without Mize and Torkelson? Their potential is a pretty big deal. I don't really think teams go into to a season looking to tank, but I think the temptation for an already bad team to tank down the stretch is strong enough to think they might tank.
  20. He'll be quiet in court and then incriminate himself in public. It won't matter though. Nothing is going to happen to him just like the past 40 years.
  21. It will be great when we all see how stupid they are and then the MAGAs brag about how they owned ther liberals once again!
  22. Are the homes necessarily being bought by large investors? Couldn't it be a trend where smaller stock market investors who became millionaires over the past decade have decided to invest in something real?
  23. Roughly only five guys are professional DHs each year, but that's about a third of the league. I remember when the DH first started in 72. I was young, so I may have the details wrong, but I remember there was discussion as to how it would work. Would the DH be connected to the pitcher or would he be a tenth position with no relation to the pitcher. Some felt the former was more logical. Others thought the latter would be good because it would help extend the careers of old players who couldn't play a position anymore. They went with the latter and I wish that they hadn't.
