  1. I don't think we can know who is ready based on stats, but Torkelson tends to start slow at each level, so I think his stats are deceiving. I think either or both could be ready for opening day. Or not. I hope if they are ready that they don't delay them for control. I want them to put the best team on the field from game one next year.
  2. I have no faith that any of them will be effective this year. I think they'll add a Peralta type to compete for a spot.
  3. The problem with Turnbull is that he has more than TJ surgery in his injury history. He's looking like someone that isn't going to be very durable.
  4. yeah, I was being flip with the mention of Kreidler. Boyd and Turnbull are not the same as him, but I am in the mindset of winning now. You really can't have too much pitching, but I don't expect them to sign another big pitcher. I believe they'll get someone to compete with Alexander for the fifth spot.
  5. I'll put them in the kreidler category. Keep an eye on them, but don't count on them.
  6. Who are those three or four guys? Jobe and who else?
  7. There are right wing extremist para-military groups that fantasize about this stuff all the time and getting the president and a few of his slappies to go along with it was a wet dream come true. I doubt there was any plan to do any serious damage because they easily could have done a lot more if they wanted. This one was also a trial run in that they are always practicing this stuff and it finally got real. They'd love to do it again, but I don't know if there is any long-term plan. I think it's a matter of how far their leaders will allow them to go. It kind of goes both ways though. Trump will go as far as he needs to go get attention, admiration and money. If enough of his supporters realistically start to think that a Civil War is a good idea, Trump will want to be the hero that makes it happen. He's got no plan though. He makes stuff up as he goes along.
  8. Another thing which is easy to predict is that "there is another one coming". Off course, there is another one coming. Unless you say who and when, it tells us nothing.
  9. I think it was easy to predict that a big guy like Cabrera would have injuries in his 30s. Cruz's health is more the exception than the rule. I know why they signed him, but the contract was always going to be too long.
  10. It was a good point, but it wasn't my point!
  11. My feeling is a team is not hurt by signing good players to big contracts. They get hurt when they sign the wrong players.
  12. Lots of people at my school do it. I don't because I think it's silly. If you want to show that you care, get to know someone and refer to them by name.
  13. I think it was poorly organized like everything Trumpers do, but it was clearly known that something was going to happen long before January 6. How do you think it went down and why do you think Trump tweeted about it weeks before it happened?
  14. I think it will be more than that. Their shortstop will probably cost at least that much and then they'll add a few smaller pieces.
  15. Candelario was average this year according to Baseball Savant. They had no plus defenders this year other than than perhaps Hill/Cameron and I don't know how much they'll play next year. I do think they'll improve significantly next year, but at the current moment I'd say they have a lot of work to do.
  16. So far, it isn't. Hopefully, that is addressed in the off-season.
  17. I approve of this signing. It sounds like just about everyone else does too.
  18. It was a Puerto Rican flag with a Tiger next to it. Not sure it had anything to do with Detroit, but possible.
  19. The Yankees haven't had a losing record since 1992 and they make the playoffs most years, including the last five years. I would bet that the correlation between payroll and wins over several years is quite high.
  20. The salaries are going to be what the salaries are going to be. I've never understood why fans get so wrapped up in that. I remember when fans were outraged by players making a million dollars to play baseball. Then 5 million. Then 10 million and so on. The salaries keep going up and up and baseball keeps making money and the teams that spend the most tend to have more success.. It's between the owners and players. Maybe they'll blow it up this winter and we'll have a system with a hard salary cap which is difficult to avoid. I doubt it.
  21. I am not at all convinced that gun ownership makes one less likely to be killed or seriously injured in a violent crime. I think it makes it more likely.
  22. Right, 85 and 86 had nothing to do with players leaving. That came at the end of the decade, but they didn't add anybody either. Still, it was disappointing that they couldn't even win 90 games in 85, 86. Going from 104 wins to 84 in one year was a lot.
  23. That's why they need more guns! So, the good guys with guns will stop the bad guys with guns.
  24. They played well together in 84, but what happened in 85 and 86? As much as I loved that team, I am not sure they got the most out of their talent. Part of it was cheap ownership not always wanting add final pieces and also not keeping some of their best players at the end. .
  25. What difference does it make what you call it? The argument is the same.
