  1. It was two years before free agency, but yes it was the length of contract that was terrible. He would have been 32 at the end of that contract. So then they extended him eight more years beyond that. That is absurd.
  2. Still better than what they have.
  3. My point was he still wouldn't have gone to free agency if they made the same offer a year later.
  4. Cabrera was not likely to take it to FA given the ridiculous contract he was offered.
  5. The question with him is how long can play shortstop. His defensive numbers were way down in 2020 and he played mostly second base last year because of Bichette. He is also the oldest of the bunch.
  6. I agree. His contract, as bad as it was, has probably not prevented them from spending. Having an old replacement level DH in the middle of the line-up for five years hasn't even been a big problem because they haven't been in contention. It could become one soon.
  7. I'd be happy with any of the top five and disappointed if they get shut out.
  8. Cabrera was 30+ and fat when he signed his big deal and his contract still had two years to go, so it was unnecessary. Few wanted to say it at the time because they loved Cabrera, but that was a terrible contract and probably solely an ilitch signing. Signing Correa or Seager to a ten year deal would be risky, but not comparable to Cabrera.
  9. Seager has not been durable at all so far.
  10. Correa is my choice, but the consolation prizes are good too.
  11. Sure, but he'd still be better than Goodrum and the Castros.
  12. People would complain if they got Honus Wagner. If Avila signs a bowlegged shortstop to a 10 year deal, I'm done with this team.
  13. I just became a community regular!
  14. Anyway, my feeling about Kreidler is: (1) I don't expect a lot from him. (2) He is worth keeping an eye on. (3) He shouldn't impact their winter shopping.
  15. Every terrible player was too. 😀
  16. I am expecting the Tigers to land one of the big five. It will be a bit disappointing if they don't. I am less confident they'll get Correa specifically, but I think they will make a legitimate offer.
  17. I think it was supposed to be a joke in response to my sarcasm, but I'm not sure.
  18. What about Kreidler?
  19. Do we have any evidence that Baez hurt the clubhouse chemistry of other teams? Or is it just you not liking hotdogs?
  20. The Clemens thing is fun to think about, but 17 other teams passed on him. It's like agonizing over not drafting Trout. There are so many players like that. The Tigers were really really cheap back in the 80s, so there is no way they were going to be the team to offer a big bonus to Clemens.
  21. He has an unusual skill set. If he keeps doing what he's doing, he'd be a good addition. The problem is players who don't walk and who get a lot of their value from speed and defense tend to lose their value fast. I'd be particularly wary of a long term deal with him.
  22. He is interesting although surprisingly he hasn't done better on the road than at home.
  23. I don't know their budget. If there was a salary cap, I would worry about salaries. I doubt they will acquire Myers, but if they did I would assume they must have a very high budget. Either that or they are really stupid in which case, they aren't going to put together a good team anyway.
  24. I never care how much money any player makes. Length of contract matters to me because it gets to be a problem when a washed up old player hangs around for three years at the end of his contract playing every day in the middle of the line-up.
  25. That's a sad story. It sounds as Edmead was a budding star.
