I encountered homeless pretty much every day when I worked in Boston. In eleven years, they never behaved aggressively or in a threatening way. They would ask for money and then usually say "God bless" whether I gave them anything or not.

I am not especially thrilled with what they got at the deadline, but I don't know what it would have cost to obtain more impactful players. I don't think they significantly impoved their chances of going all the way this year, but how do you do that? There was no urgent need because they have such a big lead and the teams in back of them aren't really trying to win. I think the post-season is mostly a crapshoot, so I am not in favor of selling the farm just for what might turn out to be one series.

Suarez has a good WAR and it's almost exactly the same on different sites. I don't think anyone is saying he would be a downgrade. I see people saying that they don't want to give up top prospects for him or that they had bigger needs elsewhere (pitching).

I don't think any organization has a good handle on that. It seemed like the Tigers did the last couple of years, but this year it hasn't worked out so well.

True, but I don't believe that getting something for nothing usually means being rigid or difficult. Consistently making good deals likely comes from having a better ability to evaluate talent and develop players compared to the people you're negotiating with.

Absolutely. I hate when there has been a well played game or the Tigers make a good comeback to tie the game and then I see a baserunner on second base. This is the first year I have even allowed myself to watch it and the the extra inning rule ruins the moment every time. Even if the Tigers win in extra innings now, It's just a hollow feeling.

If he really is hard to deal with, that might not be a good thing. If other teams started to avoid him on the assumption that it was impossible to get a deal done, the Tigers might miss out on opportunities to make good deals. I am not saying that is happening, just saying that being hard to deal with is not necessarily a good quality.

10+ is a long time. If any of them are stars, they probably won't make it past 6. Also, Greene and Tork will probably flame out before 10 years. Go for 5!.

I don't think pitcher statcast cards are very predictive, so I wouldn't be too concerned with that. Statcast hitter numbers are more useful.

OK, I hope he gets a lot of innings because I'm impressed so far and would like to see what he can do.

I think they will feel fine either way, but players want to win. That's why they will go to winning teams, so they they can win. Even thought the new team was already good without them, they still like the idea of winning.

Mop-up guy and emergency starter seems like the only role for him.

I'd rather they start Paddack and Melton. Morton has been horrible this year.

I know you are trying to make lemonade out of lemons, but I heard players saying this week on a broadcast that they wanted the Tigers to make additions. A couple of them said they would love having Suarez as a teammate.

Charlie Morton essentially has to make to the 25-man roster. That seems like a waste of a roster spot. What do they plan to do with him?

Charlie Morton was acquired for his veteran presence.

Perhaps, better than Finnegan. But both would have been nice.
