This is interesting and sounds like something Harris/Hinch would consider: CAA, the agency representing right-hander Michael Lorenzen, has been marketing him as a two-way player in conversations with teams this winter. The idea isn’t necessarily for Lorenzen to see much time at the plate, it’s to potentially circumvent the limit of 13 pitchers that each MLB team is allowed to carry on their roster. If Lorenzen appears in 20 games in the outfield or as a designated hitter (and gets at least three plate appearances in each), he would gain two-way status for the 2025 season and the following year, giving the team that signs him extra roster flexibility. Agreed. I understand the risks, but I'd take the chance. I don't think his 2024 season is a real decline.

I'd be OK with Diaz and his high OBP. I don't think Goldschmidt offers much of anything at this point.

Just saw the new Trump haircut. Looks lessy douchy and more like a bully. Have to admit it's a slight improvement.

I bet Trump would like not only like to raise the debt ceiling, but get rid of it which would make it easier for him to do whatever he wants. The DOGE crap commission is not about efficiency and lowering debt, but stealing money and punishing opponents.

Kim is risky but potentially a great fit - either at short or third. If they want to stick to shorter term deals they may be able to do that with Kim.

I have virtually no hope that Baez will make any positive contributions at all. I am planning on them giving Sweeney a long look and hopefully finding a backup who can play defense. I haven't totally given up on Torkelson, but I suspect he just isn't ever going to be good and they need to have a replacement ready before spring training.

I don't know if it's preferable, but pitchers are unpredictable. Pitchers decline physically just as fast as position players, but I think certain pitchers can compensate for loss of physical tools with wisdom and experience better than a hitter.

Bregman may very well fail, but I don't think Baez is a good comparison. In fact, they are opposites in terms of skillsets. Baez has always had perhaps the worst plate discipline in baseball even when he was good. Bregman has close to the best BB/K ratio in the baseball throughout his career.

I am not playing that game. Anything anybody suggests will be shot down, but every year there are some contract surprises in both directions. The following players have been linked to the Tigers and I think they are interesting: Bregman Walker Kim Flaherty Buehler Sasaki Heaney Yates

I think more people here respect religion than you think. Over in the religion thread, there was a long drawn out discussion about the existence of God and almost everyone either believed in God or thought that is reasonable to think that some kind of supreme being exists. There were only a couple of all out atheists in the discussion. What people don't like is people who don't seem to be very Christian pretending they are better than everyone else and telling people how to to behave and what to think.

It will look more like the team that finished the season, but how much of that pitching perfomance they can recapture is the question.

If Skubal is gone within two years (which seems likely), how long is it going to take before they are ready to sign players? Then maybe they have to move Greene in a few years...I say the time to make a playoff push is now. That doesn't mean I am endorsing desperate moves. It just means that I think they shouldn't shy away from a reasonable deal because they aren't "ready".

I don't really care about Hunter Biden one way or the other, but I don't believe in Presidental pardons in general.

It's kind of wild that the two things they got Hunter Biden on were illegal possession of a gun and tax evasion. MAGAs should love the guy!

It's not Rodriguez's job to make things easy for Harris. He did what was best for himself. Maybe Harris should have realized that Rodriguez was difficult to deal with and worked something out a lot earlier. I don't know. It sucks that they couldn't get a deal done, but it's weak to blame it all on the player and to Harris' credit he didn't do that. He took responsibility for it.
