  1. Maybe that comparison didn't help, but Gibson gave Anderson a lot of credit for helping him grow up which is something he needed. On another note, I talk about Whitaker and Trammell a lot. They were my favorites, but I thought Gibson was the most exciting Tiger of my lifetime. Watching him run the bases, hit for the power and seeing his reactions to things was really entertaining.
  2. And Carl Willis...the next Rollie Fingers. It is interesting that a lot of players he hyped stayed in the game after their playing days were over. Part of why he hyped them may have been that they had baseball smarts or were good leaders.
  3. Why are we so prone to violence? Is it the inequity?
  4. Anderson on Chris Pittaro: “He has a chance to be the greatest second baseman who ever lived.” I'd say he was more excited about Pittaro since he moved Whitaker to 3B to make room for Pittaro in spring training.
  5. “There’s nothing that Torey Lovullo can’t do”
  6. Oh, I expect managers to feed us BS, but disproving BS is one of my favorite things to do here.
  7. I won't be too surprised if they make noise in the AL Central, but it won't be because "they're gritty and get the job done with two outs". They are batting .238 with a .646 OPS with two outs. They will make noise in the AL Central if they continue to get good pitching and the hitters start producing with consistency.
  8. He'll be well compensated though.
  9. I added Wenceel Perez to my fantasy team last night which pretty much guarantees he'll start to suck. Don't worry though. I'll eventually drop him and he'll proceed to go on a tear. Just wanted to make sure you know what to expect for the next couple of weeks.
  10. I was skeptical, but he looking very impressive so far.
  11. I don't need to see anything about Fanduel when watching a baseball game.
  12. I agree. He does call the action well and I like it when he challenges his partner when they give a hollow ex jock comment. He does come up with a great line once in a while, most of his humor does fall flat. He definitely forces it too much.
  13. I think it is near imposible for any intelligent person to support the current Republican party. However, I am not impressed by politicians in general and that includes Democrats.
  14. I wasn't referring to anyone in particular. I just think, in general, this forum is very supportive of Democrats.
  15. It also might have been somewhat self induced by not staying in better condition
  16. I thought the comment was appropriate because MTG was acting like a little girl. It's not the same as attacking someone's appearance. It might be viewed as offensive by a redneck but only because Blacks and Latnias aren't supposed to talk to a white girl that way.
  17. I believe that is a big part of the reason. She deserved some kind of response, but butch is a derogatory term. If a Republican used it against an unattractive Democrat, Democrats would be all over it.
  18. I believe you are right. I also think it is really difficult to compare today's pitchers to pitchers in the 60s and 70s because the environments are so different. It's hard enough comparing hitters from different eras, but pitchers are used so differently today that it's really not even the same role.
  19. 1971 Mickey Lolich pitched twice as much as the even the more durable pitchers today which made him more valuable. It's apples and oranges, but I don't think you can say he had the same rates from game to Skubal has had which is what Randy was talking about. And you wouldn't have expected him to given his workload.
  20. I think injuries are the most common reason why players - even young players - have slumps. I also think staying healthy is one of the most important skills a player can have. If one player has a slump because he is out of it mentally (also a skill) or because of random variation instead of an injury, it's still the same result. Lets say Cabrera's slumps were due to injuries as you say (and you are probably right). That doesn't make him any better than another hitter who slumps for other reasons. It's still a bad overall performance. The sum of his skills at the end of his career were not helping the team. As for Ibanez facing a RHP, Cabrera was hurt as often as Ibanez faced a RHP the last few years!
  21. Celebrities can say whatever they want just like everyone else. The media should stop giving them attention when they stay stupid things about topics they know nothing about. They won't though because stupid quotes are worth big money to them.
  22. The stock market rising is ALWAYS good. I loved when the stock market rose during Trump's presidency. It had little to do with him just as the current rising stock market has little to do with Biden. I will say that the Dow Jones is a stupid measure. It's just that they don't have SP 500 5300 caps!
  23. AOC was appropriate in her comments. People here are defending Crocket because she is a Democrat, but her comments were cheap and crude. I mean it it was humorous, but I'm not going to defend it as appropriate.
  24. She is smarter (the bar is low) but it's hard to call someone sophisticaled when use the term "butch"
  25. Crockett's response was no more mature. LOL
