What are the odds that all four of them reach their potential? I think they'll do well if two of them become above average players. I am not being negative here. I think their system is in good hands now and they'll be competitive for several years. I just don't think we can point to any set of future players and say that's when they'll be read to spend. It might be many years before they are 7 1/2 games in first place on August 16 again.

I think he is risk averse, but being risk averse does not mean being scared. It's more of a carefully planned strategy where you think a cautious approach will bring more long-term success than taking risks.

I had a tick like that when I was a kid. It must have been right around the time McLain was suspended because I remember my father joking to a doctor that it came from that. I actually didn't know what was going on with McLain at the time. Anyway, the doctor asked if I was a lefty or a southpaw. I don't think you can make definitive comparisons across eras with pitchers. When you compare guys with 200 IP with guys like Newhouser, Lolich and McLain who had close to 30 CG and over 300 IP, It's apples and oranges. I am not saying those guys were better, just that it was a very different set of circumstances. You can say that those pitchers couldn't do that in this era where every pitch is thrown with full effort and you'd be right, but if they were confined to 7 inning starts, they would have had much better rates than they did. The question is which pitcher dominated his own era the most? I think Skubal, McLain and Verlander and some others were all incredibly dominant in their best seasons.

I wanted them to keep Melton in the rotation, so this was good to see today. I am not sure where they need him most at this point as both their rotation and bullpen need help. Just make sure you get a lot of innings out of him down the stretch.

Trump read this and thought you were talking about Salma Hayek! I do agree there has always been a conflict for Trump about wanting to be loved and wanting to be king. That may save us in some ways and screw us in others.

Raising the cap seems like a no brainer to me. I don't know if raising the edge is even a good idea for the economy. You are forcing people who are possibly past their working prime to work longer while possibly making it more difficult for younger people to find work.

That's a fair statement. I don't know if he knew, but I don't think he made an offer just to make it look like he did something. If that was his intention, he could have just leaked a fake offer to the media. I don't see this as any different from Bregman last year.

The debate is about whether it's OK for a GM to offer a player less than what he says he wants? I think it is because nobody really knows what kind of offers he is getting except for the teams making the offers. It was widely reported that Bregman wanted an 8-year deal worth 200 million last year, but it was also reported that Harris offered him 6 years 170. Was that OK?

The problem is that even though people are living longer, they aren't necessarily healthier and more able to work. People are being kept alive by drugs, but not always living well. And they sure aren't doing anything to make us healthier. They are currently doing the opposite.
