  1. The team did try to build from within its farm system rather than free agent signings under Avila. It was not executed very well, although he did sign a good number of players who are still considered part of their future.
  2. I wasn't sure about this, but I looked it up and only 27% of Americans have confidence in the Supreme Court. That's even worse than Biden and Dump. Of course, if everybody distrusts them that much, that means there is a large group of people that thinks they are corrupt for different reasons than you think. Personally, I think the way they appoint Supreme Court Justices is pretty stupid and it was destined for corruption.
  3. i am not sure what I am missing here, but killing people sounds like the kind of thing MAGAs would joke about.
  4. Yup, If a boring candidate did all the crap he has done, he would have been torn to shreds a long time ago. Unfortunately, the media needs him.
  5. Given his bat, I think if he could play SS well, the Dodgers would have kept him. That's just my wild guess.
  6. I don't know the laws, but I always figured they would find a way to delay this until after the election.
  7. That describes most of my friends and relatives and many of them will not be voting for Trump.
  8. Most of my inquiries are from head hunters asking me if I have any interest or know anyone who has any interest in some position that has nothing to do with my linkedin profile.
  9. Broadcasters are very important. They don't contribute to winning, but their impact on the fan experience is huge. When I look back on my time as a Tigers fan, I think Ernie Harwell has influenced my experience more than even the players.
  10. It's probably because gas prices go up and down whereas other things only go up. We get used to inflation (which ALWAYS exists), but gas prices are all over the place.
  11. The economy has been objectively better when Democrats have been Presidents. I don't think it's necessarily because of anything they did as I don't think the President has anywhere near the influence on the economy that voters assume. However, it does show that the perception that the economy does better under Republican Presidents is demonstrably false.
  12. If it doesn't happen and Trump wins, you can bet that Trump will pressure them to cut cut cut, probably more than they should. The market will soar and the short-term gain will make Trump look like a genius.
  13. I read that too, but these financial writers throw a lot of crap around, so I try not to worry about what they say. Next week, there will be somebody talking about a rate cut in March. And they can always find a high profile bull or bear to back their world view.
  14. The stock market is on fire, so that is a good thing.
  15. I don't think this is much different than it's ever been. Voters have always thought that presidents controlled the economy when their ability to do that is really very limited, at least in the short term. They think that Trump is good at the economy because he is a businessman. They think Biden is bad for the economy because Democrats spend too much money. Expecting any more depth from most voters will end in disappointment. All elections are determined more from perception than reality.
  16. Baby dump is going to have a meltdown.
  17. I don't think 31 is too young to be finished for a hitter who has no hitting skill and seems to rely totally on natural ability and reflexes. That's not say that he's done. Statistically, the only difference between last year and some of his good years is lack of home runs. If he gets his power back and maintains strong defense, he could still be useful.
  18. He was a left-handed hitting catcher with a good defensive rep and numbers to support his rep. That made him a good back-up catcher, but he didn't hit enough to really be optimistic. They also didn't give up anything to get him, so I thought it was a decent acquisition at the time, but not a big one.
  19. The media will always be good to him because they need him.
  20. Baez performed pretty much as I expected in 2022, but I was never that excited about him
  21. He does, but that is not the impression that most people have. All I hear about is inflation especially high gas prices. None of that has much to do with him (including the good economy), but perception is more important than reality in elections.
  22. Rodriguez was good last year. Barnhart was bad, but they didn't give up much to get him. Baez is the problem.
  23. The difference is people are not turning on their TV to find out what the President is saying about Covid and hearing him suggest that it might be a good idea to inject ourselves with disinfectant. It's pretty stunning to hear a President say that especially during a crisis. I don't think most people follow the moronic hateful things he says on a daily basis now.
  24. I still fear that the record turnout that gave Biden the win in 2020 may not happen this time around due to recency bias. Some of the turnout was due to social issues, but I believe a lot of it was due to Trump getting blamed for Covid. That was a miseable time for the country. Watching the President act like a complete moron during a historical national crisis can be convincing.
