  1. Yes, he was a good reviever for several years, but 84 was the only year you could say he was a star. I don't think he deserved either the Cy Young or MVP though. When Verlander won both the Cy Young and MVP, he earned both of them. I generally don't think a pitcher should get the MVP (because pitchers have their own award), but if you allow pitchers to win the MVP then Verlander deserved it.
  2. Yes, he was known for that. He was also known for diving head first into first base base and making occasional bonehead running plays. He was an excellent athlete though.
  3. I talked about him in the game thread, but this makes me sad. The 80s Tigers will always be my team and he was one my favorites.
  4. yeah, I forgot about them. Hernandez was certainly a star but also kind of a "one year wonder", so not as much impact.
  5. Me too. You don't hear as much about Lemon because he was surrounded by so much talent, but he was really good. Almost Hall of Fame quality. It's going to be difficult seeing the 1980s stalwarts pass away. I believe he is the first big star of the 1984 team to die. Aurelio Lopez passed away a few years ago, but it didn't have quite the same impact.
  6. That's bully psychology 101.
  7. It's a demoralizing season for the Rockies.
  8. The Marlins were 33-14 last year with a run differential of -57.
  9. This is one of the first times I have watched an extra inning game since this silly rule change started. I wanted to see Torkelson bat since I'm concerned about his little slump. It's hard to get emotional watching fake baseball, so I'm viewing this with an unfeeling mathematical eye. Just add one to the win column.
  10. chat gtp is usually pretty good if you give it clear directions, although it recently told me I am married and have three children which suprised me. I am unmarried and have no children. I think they confused me with my father who has almost the same name.
  11. They could have smoked the Red Sox too, but they didn't.
  12. They were entertaining. This team is more my style. Entertainment is subjective.
  13. They can manipulate him because he's an idiot and also because he loves to be praised.
  14. I'm being serious here. I didn't say they were more successful. They haven't even come close yet. I like their roster construction and the way they play the game more than the stars and scrubs group. This team and organization reminds of the team they had in the mid 80s in that they had no stars but a lot of depth and played well in every phase of the game. I also like that they don't wilt when they have an injury. Hopefully, they can continue developing players and not come to a full stop the way they did back then.
  15. Figuring out what Trump's language means is a stretch. He has the vocabulary of a 10 year old. Your concluson is correct though!
  16. I don't even miss the peak years of that team. It was fun, but this team is more fun
  17. Who cares what USA Today THINKS. We KNOW they're for real!
  18. That's who Cabrera blamed it on!
  19. Pretty sure McCosky never got asked on a date.
  20. True, but they are never going to have a trial, so we'll never get any closure on perhaps the most foundational issue on which this country is based. Thus, we have to decide for ourselves what happened which means that we are left with a very large proportion (perhaps as much as half) of the country thinking that our president attempted a coup and thus is not a legitimate President.
  21. The vast majority of construction workers are males. Most of the small percentage of female construction workers could probably beat the **** out of Trump.
  22. I do care if they lose two seasons. At my age, I don't want them to lose any seasons. I think the argument about about large market teams dominating the game is overblown. People have been saying this my whole life, but the game has remained competitive and popular. I don't think it's worth losing seasons. That being said, I think a salary floor is more important to the health of the game than a salary cap. I think teams slashing their budgets and not even attempting to win is a bigger problem than teams spending more than everyone else.
  23. Amash seems to be honest. I wouldn't say that about Rand Paul.
  24. We are allowed use **** if we put bag at the end of it.
