  1. That's not going to happen though. Realistically, you can only hope for incremental changes. If Trump is proven unelectable, then there will be opportunities to make changes. I don't even think his policies (which seem to come mostly from watching TV) are especially conservative. What makes him dangerous is his psychopathy. I have almost no hope that he will be beaten, but having him lose would be a big positive for the country.
  2. I once threw over 200 pitches in a Little League game. The manager brought me back to pitch again two days later. Today's pitchers are too soft.
  3. You guys seem so convinced that Trump is going to start a brutal right-wing dictatorship, that it seems logical that you would try to vote him out as early as possible. While I am not quite that fearful of a Trump presidency, I think he is a very unhealthy and dangerous influence on our country and the sooner we can end his political career, the better.
  4. During the Deadball era, pitchers were capable of excelling with three days rest so it seems that style of play is as important as physiology. In more modern times, it is possible that there are some pitchers who might do better on five or more days rest even if the standard four days is optimal for most. It doesn't have to be one size fits all if a team is willing to be creative.
  5. In Massachusetts, we don't have to register as a Republican to vote in their primary. I plan to vote for her to do my part in ridding my country of the madman. I will vote Democrat in the general.
  6. To be fair, the MAGA leader, has never ever announced or even considered a code of conduct
  7. Is it optimal because they have been conditioned to do that for years or because there is something about the human genetic make-up that makes four days optimal?
  8. They've been trying to protect them, but they keep getting hurt. I think it's more that modern pitchers throw too hard than too much.
  9. Because of the bats or because of the pitching? There is still no system that accurately predicts pitching from year to year.
  10. Good poll for Haley in New Hampshire. This is the first glimmer of hope that someone could make a run at Trump if other opponents drop out. I am no fan of Haley, but if someone somewhat normal can defeat the dickbag psychopath, it would be a positive thing for our country. I don't agree at all with those who want trump to win because he has no chance of beating Biden. He has a great chance of beating Biden. https://www.politico.com/news/2023/12/17/cbs-poll-haley-closing-gap-new-hampshire-00132173
  11. That is how I see it. I trust him not to do anything stupid, but I get the feeling he might be too cautious to pull the trigger at the right time. I also don't know what kind of budget he'll have. I don't think they'll be Tampa Bay, but are they going to be the Braves or Brewers?
  12. A Masshole is a tourist from Massachusetts. Sometimes they get too comfortable and move to southern, NH. The latter group tends to like lower taxes, but remains socially liberal.
  13. I see Stephen Miller has been feeding Trump some Nazi rhetoric again up in his New Hampshire rally. I'm not sure that will go over too big in New Hampshire. Lots of Masshole transplants up there.
  14. I think Olson is their second best pitcher, so I would guess he's safe unless he looks terrible in Spring training. Anyway, at the end of last year Hinch or Harris said something about not having a traditional five man staff, but rather having a couple of swing men. So, I wouldn't be at all surprised for them to go with six starters. It would still be pitchers pitching with four days rest for the most part, but there might be a lot of split starts. The most surprising thing might be all six being healthy on opening day! So, I am happy to see some depth.
  15. I don't care how much the Tigers spend on a one-year deal unless it prevents them from signing someone better which is very unlikely. I trust them not go over budget before signing someone more expensive that they really want.
  16. Our local newspaper is owner by a hedge fund management company. Not much accountability or balance there.
  17. You don't need subsciptions to use either site. I think most people can get all the stats they need from B-Ref for free. I got a subscription to use the stathead part of the site because I like to do research. FanGraphs provides stats for free too, but their ads are obtrusive.
  18. Is the second word a clean three letter word?
  19. They do have access to players and management, so they might get an occasional revealing quote that you can't get elsewhere. My online subscription budget includes Baseball-Reference (so I have access to stathead) and FanGraphs (so I I can avoid ads) and that's it. I tried the Athletic, but I found it wasn't worth it for me.
  20. Their new function is to generate click bait which is why they increasingly engage in wild speculation.
  21. Henning's writing style is off putting to some, but I don't think he is pompous. He has respectful conversations with fans all the time. He would never say anyting lke "I wish you guys would read my stuff".
  22. Now that the Tigers don't have a spot wasted on a replacement level DH, they have more flexibility on their roster. They should be able to carry both offense-first and defense-first utility players on the bench.
  23. I would have liked to see them take that risk, but I don't think they are going to be that kind of franchise.
  24. McCosky is probably the most pompous self important Tigers writer and he really doesn't know that much.
