  1. I was interested in him early, but I didn't expect them to really pursue him especially after the Canha acquisition. Looks like he got a good deal for himself. I am not good at guessing these things, but it seems better than expected.
  2. I also don't give a **** about the NFL, but in general I don't think parity makes a league better. Parity can be boring. I like it when the are good and bad franchises. I also like it when a franchise that has been bad for a long time becomes good. It's a much more intriguing story line than every team is the same and a random team wins every year. Of course, that isn't what happens, but it seems to be the ultimate goal of parity. I think the NFL is more popular because it's easier to follow with a shorter season and only one game per week. They also market the sport better. I don't think parity has that much to do with it.
  3. Upton wasn't really like Zimmermann. His first year was bad until his hot finish. He had a .904 OPS in his scond year with the Tigers before he got traded.
  4. OK, I am now reading the same thing. Apparently about 45 million per year goes towards the luxury tax calculation even though he doesn't get it until later. I guess I don't get to agree with KL2 anymore. 😀
  5. Wait until you see the waiver claim Harris makes this week. It will blow your mind.
  6. Harris continues to make the safe low risk moves. Shreve was in the mark down bin with all the crap nobody wants to buy. Fortunately, he stole his neighbor's Amazon mail on his way home and got Holton.
  7. OK, You're right. The 700 million had nothing to do wih it.
  8. The Blue Jays and Mariners have very good teams with young stars and would have gotten even better with Ohtani. They are not loser teams. You've been pushing the idea for years that nobody will sign with the Tigers because they are not a winner, but I don't think it applies here.
  9. I don't know about lawsuits, but if the Dodgers defer a sustantial portion of the contract so that they can avoid going over the tax threshold each year, I can see other teams getting upset. I won't pretend to know what the CBA says about that, but it could be viewed as going against the spirit of the CBA.
  10. Add Ohtani and the Blue Jays and Mariners are likely to make the playoffs. I really doubt he chose the Dodgers because they are more of a winner than those teams. It's not like they are the Athletics. I think he signed with the closest to home west coast team that offered him the most money. If the Dofgers offered 650 million and the Mariners offered 700 million, which team do you think he would have chosen?
  11. 750 million probably would have been enough. But if he really wants to win, then Toronto or Seattle would have been good choices. I doubt they offered him 700 million though.
  12. I think the length is OK. The risk is that he getting paid as if he is two players and the the pitcher have may have peaked already.
  13. 700 million for a guy with a torn UCL. That doesn't sound smart.
  14. yeah, this seems to be a problem all over the media. Media, in general, is losing credibility fast.
  15. It's too bad. I liked him as a Tigers writer and his first several years as a national writer. At least he apologized for his mistake yesterday.
  16. The idea that Trump is going to cheat in 2024 using tactics that he accused the Democrats of using is not news. I've assumed along that he's going to try it. In fact, he most likely tried it in 2020.
  17. You have to understand that Republicans see illegal gun possession and tax evasion as good things.
