The vibe I got growing up in a Catholic/Greek Orthodox family (a very controversial mix at the time) is that Protestants were not real Christians. My parents never actually said that and they were not dogmatic in their views. It's just the feeling I got from hearing them talk about religion. When I got older, I found out that Protestats thought they had the real religion!

It could. I went most of my life with the feeling that government had no effect on me whatsoever. I only paid attention because I am curious person and wanted to be aware of what was going on, but I really didn't care that much. I can understand why someone who is not curious would be turned off by politics which doesn't affect them. I would expect more people to care if someone took away their rights away, but they would still have to be convinced that there was a voting option which actually cared about them. I don't think that has happened for a while.

They either don't care because they think politics sucks or they very much disliked both candidates. Remember that the Democrats are not entitled to anyone's vote. What are you doing to make them interested?

Textbook bully. The one thing about bullies is that they always have underlying insecurities. Although she was a weak candidate, the one thng I liked about Harris was how accurately and bluntly she exposed all of his insecurities and caused him to melt down in their one debate. We've needed more of that all along.

This is very odd. It looked deliberate, but then her arm kept flailing afer she hit her (even after she dropped the baton) and then she stopped running. My guess is she wanted to hit her to throw her off stride (which is of course very wrong) and then realized she hit her a lot harder than she had intended.

They are not going go 54-28 with him in the line-up again, but I agree they really need him healthy. He is probably going to be 3-4 wins beter than his replacement and, given where they are at, that could very well be the difference between making the playoffs and going home.

It's definitely about timing. I made pretty much all my money in the last 15 years and have very little to show prior to that. On the other hand, if you are a passive investor like most people including me for the most part, trying to time the market will proably hurt you.

I've been fortunate enough in life where no previous adminisration affected me much either positively or negatively. This is the first administration which is affecting me directly and it's all negative.

That is basically what I have followed since I read it 16 years ago. At 62, I am now investing more conservatively. I should have a pretty good retirement in place if I stay reasonably healthy and I don't want to blow it.

I did that in January, and kind of I wish I moved more. I hate trying to time things, but at my age I need to invest more conservatively

Staying primarily in US stocks has been a great move the last 15 years. It's hard to know what happens next. I am guessing there is going to be turbulence for a while.

My first day in the Vanguard Total International Stock Fund (VITSX) was a good one (+1.78%). With all the uncertaintly in the US now, I decided to allocate a portion of my retiremet money to an international fund.

I don't know anything about economics, so I don't know. It does seem to be pretty stupid to be making drastic changes to an economy which is already doing pretty well. I think the odds are not good.

I think most of increased longevity has to do with medical advances (which are also in jeopardy under this administration) and lifestyle changes (such as less smoking). Work place safety (also in jeopardy if de-regulation goes too far) plays a role too.
