  1. I really don't think he has a lot of value now. While Harris may have an eye for talent, he doesn't strike me as a great salesman who is going to be able to talk up a player like Torkelson enough to get teams to want to give up much for him. He may be able to trade him for another failing young player who needs a change of scenery.
  2. I should have said I expect him to start out as top 5 and hope that he is top 5 for a full season.
  3. I agree on Mize. In fact, I expect him to be one of their top five starters next year. I wouldn't necessarily drop Torkelson either, but I am expecting less from him.
  4. As someone who doesn't usually think managers are that important, I believe Hinch has worked his entire staff beautifully this year.
  5. You asked me for one good reason why he should be on the team. I answered WHIP because I think pitchers that don't allow a lot of base runners have a place on a team. If you asked me to give you a reason why the Tigers should accept his option for 2025, I would not have give you a reason. Miller has won six games for the Tigers this year, third on the team! 😃
  6. If they can't find a cheap right-handed hitter batter (who can't field) better than Torkelson this off season, then Harris isn't the genius people are making him out to be. The only reason to keep Torkelson is if you think you can fix him.
  7. His 0.94 WHIP is one good reason. So, he must be getting somebody out. My point was that the starters don't pitch enough innings, so that the relievers get over worked and Hinch is sometimes forced to use pitchers in spots where they are not best suited. Even with that, I think Hinch has managed the staff brilliantly.
  8. I would say that not having starters who can pitch a lot of innings and not having great high leverage relievers is the reason. Given that, I think Hinch has handled the staff masterfully.
  9. Did the realization that they played fake base for four innings soften the blow at all?
  10. And looking back at the Torkelson draft, there isn't really a lot there to get excited about. At least not yet. Not every draft has a huge impact player.
  11. I wanted Alec Bohm just because I always want position players. I don't really think most fans know enough about college and high school players to legitimately criicize the picks though. I admit I don't.
  12. I liked him at the beginning, but it got to be too much.
  13. Wow, I hadn't heard about Jerry Williams in a long time. That was back when Talk Radio was fun and I used to listen to it a lot. His voice was annoying and he always sounded pissed off (which I now understand was the point of the show) but he did some good interviews.
  14. I was listening in Massachusetts
  15. I have given up on the cult waking up. It's going to be all about turn out like it was in 2020.
  16. Also, the Athletics are playing well (29-23 since June).
  17. If they ever want to sign a top free agent under 30, they would have to commit at least that long. I don't know what kind of payroll they are planning long term.
  18. yeah, at this point in the season, probability don't mean ****. Just enjoy.
  19. It's understood that he's the boss, but they can't come out and say it.
  20. As long as you talk loud and fast and give some good sound bites, you're good with MAGA and with the media. Substance doesn't matter.
  21. It feels weird when I teach students born this century and they seem like kids even though they are in graduate school. Their parents are most likely younger than me.
  22. Of course, if you are wealthy like Vance, you can live your life anyway you please. The rest of the population has bills to pay.
  23. That's the thing with Clark. We are either going to love him or hate him. He is either going to be a star or a bust. There aint going to be any in between.
  24. Bowden is terrible, but those two are pretty much universally regarded as bluechip prospects. Jobe appears to be kind of brittle, but everyone seems to agree that he has elite stuff when healthy. Clark appears to have superstar charisma and confidence like a George Brett. If he's for real, he'll be a lot of fun to follow .
