Yeah, I don't think saying someone is good with money because they are Jewish is necessarily hatred. More often than not, it is probably an ignorant compliment, but saying that they control the world because they are good with money is definitely different.

I have read nothing about him having problems with teammates. It's treally hard for fans to know such things unless it becomes obvious which is rare. A fan might be concerned that he'll leave the team again which may or not be a legitimate concern, but that doesn't mean the players had a problem with it.

I know he struck out a lot and made some arrogant quotes, but Inge was a lot better than Walewander and Kelly. His defense and moderate power was strong enough to make him a legit starting third baseman for a few years.

At the team level, It is less correlated with runs scored than any of OBP, slugging and OPS. I think it has little use as an overall evaluation tool. It has some use as a situational stat or as a descriptive measure.

One of the big problems with BA though is that it largely based on luck. The non-hitting portion or OBP (eyeso as Shelton used to call it) is more controllable than the hitting portion. I do agree with your overall view that there is no one stat which fits every situation. I do think that the majority of bats over the course of the season do not involve playing for one run, so I think OPS covers more situations than batting average.

Without a doubt. But for decades fans have used batting average as a summary stat and it's terrible for that purpose. OPS would be better.

yeah, I think OPS is as far as 95% of the baseball population will go. I think OPS is fine though. I see sabers bitching about how wOBA or some other advanced stat is better and people should be using it. The other stats really aren't THAT much better though. If people drop batting average in favor of OPS, I'd be happy and wouldn't expect them to go further than that.

I think a lot of young fans still care about pitcher wins. I still think the vast majority of fans still go by wins, ERA, batting average, home runs and RBI. I am fortunate to live in some online bubbles where fans are more stat savvy. I doubt more than 5% of baseball fans have heard of fangraphs or Baseball Prospectus.

I don't hate twitter. I think the owner is a moron, but it remains a fairly useful media tool.

I used to think "there was no way people would fall for this today". Now, I think it would be even more likely to happen today.

My baseball twitter feed is people either complaining about too many teams in the playoffs or people trying to convince us that's not a problem. But yeah, once the Tigers are out of it, it's mostly NCAA football and this year the Lions are finally winning so it's about them too.

I don't doubt pitchers like K's, but I don't think it makes them look good historically compared to guys that had 20 CG and 20 wins. I don't care about pitcher wins, but they do which is why managers still try to get them through 5 innings.
