  1. I think it depends on the field.
  2. I have been in environments where students and staff are not good at STEM. In my current academic environment, most are highly motivated to learn STEM. I don't agree that people in academic environments are there because they failed elsewhere. In the world of research (my world), many chose academia over private because it's very difficult to do honest research in private industry which is mostly driven by profit. Not all academic research is unbiased, but yout got a much better chance there.
  3. I am sure some of them would do just fine if they applied themselves to STEM. I have been teaching long enough to know that lots of different kinds of people can learn STEM. I also know that the majority of people don't like STEM which is a problem. If I am lookng for STEM talent, I am looking for people that are interested in doing it. Most NRA types I have encountered are not looking to do nerdy STEM jobs.
  4. The majority of Americans have no clue what he's even doing. He is dismantling the government by sidestepping other branches of government. You may like what is happening, but what he is doing is illegal and anti-constitution. It is also very damaging to millions of Americans. The United States is not supposed to be a fascist dictatorship. My employer is one of the many organizations which is suing him right now. I applaud them.
  5. I know when I want to find good STEM talent, the NRA is my first avenue!
  6. Republicans used to pretend to care about people with disabilities. Now that their leader has said they are ugly and disgusting to look at, they don't want anything to do with them.
  7. Bribery is cool now. https://www.marketwatch.com/articles/trump-pause-enforcement-bribery-law-2586594f?mod=mw_latestnews "President Donald Trump is expected to direct the Justice Department to pause enforcing the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which prohibits U.S. companies from bribing officials of foreign governments."
  8. What need does Whit Merrifield fill? He can't hit. He can't field. Maybe he can be a baserunning coach.
  9. I have no clue what I'd do with a bitcoin as I still think it's a scam. The giftcard idea sounds promising though.
  10. I'd rather watch the baseball game
  11. I can't even find a bank to exchange my coins into dollars anymore. Banks don't seem to have those machines anymore. I have a few hundred dollars worth of coins and I haven't had time to separate them and roll them up. There are companies that have those machines now but they want to take about 20% of your money, so I have avoided them. I have thought about giving them to someone in need and letting them roll them up the coins themselves and keep the money. I am not sure whether that would be worth their time though. It may just be insulting.
  12. Why are you supporting someone who wants to be a fascist dictator? Isn't that the kind of thing you fought against in the war?
  13. Sure you can. Just don't call him a ****. (as in Allen)
  14. I hate the SuperBowl. It's all commercials and singing and dancing. Now, that nobody invites me to Patriots Super Bowl parties anymore, there is no reason to watch. Getting millions of people to tune in specifically to watch commercials is one of the biggest scams in US history.
  15. So, either one of the polls is off or it could be a worse situaton - people think it's a constitutional crisis AND they approve of it. Unfortunately, that is plausible.
  16. They approved of Hitler and Mussolini too...until they came after them.
  17. There are lot of conservatives who think the only government funding should be for military and cops. That's really short sighted, but it's a pretty common sentiment.
  18. I don't have time for people like that!
  19. What else are we going to think about at this time of year? The best part of the Super Bowl is that it signals the end of football and the begining of baseball.
  20. Where do I sign up? I want no part of MAGA America.
  21. That's what I thought. Anybody who attempts a coup against our country doesn't deserve security, so that was a good move.
  22. MAGAs have no clue about how science and research work, so they don't care. They will love this move and will not consider that many lives will be lost and many people will be unemployed.
  23. yes, this is pretty minor and will only serve as a distraction. Let's get back to deporting Elon Mush.
  24. yeah, He was a steal which may be the most important reason they signed him.
  25. Terrible baseball name. Jim Adduci beat up Mason Englert and stole his lunch money in high school.
