  1. If they needed the spot I wouldn’t be opposed. It’s not like I think Seibert is the next Jason Hanson or anything.
  2. I wouldn’t expect this with the kickers. It’s pretty clear that Seibert is their guy and with the roulette of kickers in this league, I don’t think it’s impossible to think that both Seibert and Patterson could be picked up. Quarterback is more intriguing. I don’t think Boyle has any chance at being picked up by a team right now. Blough probably wouldn’t be either. It probably depends on whether they like Blough more than any random replacement off the street.
  3. It may depend on Levi’s spot. If they do plan on placing him on IR after the cut to 53, they will need another DT after that designation is made. They could keep one from the outset (rather than a WR6), or they could cut one of them and hope they clear waivers. With Williams already on the PUP, it’s easier to justify keeping a 6th WR, and allowing Cephus and Benson to continue to compete into the season for the last roster spot whenever Williams is activated (barring another injury). Personally, I don’t think either Cephus or Benson would clear waivers, and a DT6 would be easier replaced from the waiver wire remnants if we didn’t get our cut back on the team. They could go a different route though if they think they have a solid replacement for Levi already on the team and don’t want to chance losing him.
  4. Levi cannot go on the PUP because he was injured after training camp began. He could only go on IR, but if he went on IR before the cut to 53, he would be required to be on IR for the entire season. If he goes on IR after the cut to 53 (with him on the 53 obviously), he can be reinstated after week four and they could fill his spot from the waiver wire (or practice squad).
  5. I’ll throw my Lions 53-man here. QB: Jared Goff and David Blough RB: D’Andre Swift, Jamaal Williams, Craig Reynolds, Godwin Igwebuike, [Jason Cabinda - PUP] WR: DJ Chark, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Kalif Raymond, Quintez Cephus, and Trinity Benson [Jameson Williams - PUP] TE: TJ Hockenson, Brock Wright, James Mitchell, and Shane Zylstra OT: Penei Sewell, Taylor Decker, and Matt Nelson IOL: Frank Ragnow, Jonah Jackson, Halapoulivaati Vaitai, Evan Brown, and Tommy Kraemer DT: Michael Brockers, Alim McNeill, Levi Onwuzurike, Jashon Cornell, and Isaiah Buggs EDGE: Aidan Hutchinson, Charles Harris, Austin Bryant, Julian Okwara, and John Cominsky [Romeo Okwara and Josh Pashal - PUP] LB: Alex Anzalone, Derrick Barnes, Malcolm Rodriguez, Chris Board, and Anthony Pittman CB: Amani Oruwariye, Jeff Okudah, AJ Parker, Will Harris, Chase Lucas, and Bobby Price [Jerry Jacobs - PUP] S: Tracy Walker, Deshaun Elliot, Iffy Melifonwu, Kerry Joseph, and CJ Moore ST: Jack Fox, Austin Seibert, and Scott Daly
  6. He should continue to get better too. He’s got less than one full game of NFL experience with a good coaching staff, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Achilles isn’t yet truly 100%
  7. There is definitely not a perfect answer present. I think Boyle might as well have started packing his things when he threw that pick today. Blough is who they’ll keep if they keep one. It might be him to start and then they’ll see if there are any waiver wire surprises. As a backup QB with a healthy starter, there is probably something to be said for your backup being able to know the offense and playbook, and be able to assist the OC and starter in running the offense. Blough has that over any replacement.
  8. That's what I said, but he said it smarter and with a blue checkmark. 😉
  9. I'm not putting a lot of weight into it. They looked good under Goff in the first preseason game. I think there is some relation there to the QBs poor performance.
  10. The defense has mostly looked okay. The last drive wasn't pretty, but otherwise they're holding them to field goals instead of touchdowns. The Jeff Okudah sighting was good to see. The offense has looked awful, but I blame a lot of that on Boyle and Blough. When you know you're fighting for a job, and this is the best you can do, it's probably time to look elsewhere.
  11. I would take any of Mason Rudolph, Ian Book, or Blake Bortles over what we have. Mike Glennon and AJ McCarron are available as well, though they would be lower on my list. I don't think I would carry two backups, unless one is on the practice squad. If Goff goes down, it's very unlikely we compete for the playoffs anyway.
  12. Eight billion people in this world and the best two backup QBs we can find are Tim Boyle and David Blough?
  13. Them giving him a shot at returning kicks tells me they want to keep one of him and Godwin.
  14. Boyle is bad. It’s like he’s asking to have someone else take the job. The defensive line has looked decent against Pittsburgh’s not good offensive line.
  15. Sounds like Lions starters minus Goff will play for a half today against Pittsburgh.
  16. I agree, but I also think that with the hand Harbaugh is dealt, he is wise to keep both for as long as possible. If you can get them both snaps and NFL recognition without either transferring, why wouldn't you do so? Having two guys like that probably wouldn't work in an NFL playbook, but who cares? If he goes out there and tells the media "JJ is our starter", Cade transfers. If he goes out there and says "Cade is our starter", JJ transfers. If he just keeps punting it while playing both of them fairly equally, both of them get seen and both of them make the team better. They compliment each other well, and having both of them is hard for opposing defenses to plan against.
  17. Adding Nebraska to the B1G came with such promise. *deep sigh*
  18. It’s a smart move by Harbaugh. College ball isn’t specialized enough that you need only one starting QB. JJ and Cade will both see the field plenty, and oftentimes together. Naming a starter would just be bad politics.
  19. When Stanford University did away with the Stanford Indians moniker (in 1972, way before it was cool) they put it to the student body to vote on a new nickname. The winner was the Stanford Robber Barons, a derisive nod to Leland Stanford himself. The administration didn’t like that very much and implemented Stanford Cardinal, an option that wasn’t even on the ballot. The more you know.
  20. My mom has had back problems for nearly 30 years. Started with tweaking it helping someone move. Seven surgeries have provided only temporary relief. It’s only finally gotten tolerable in the last five years, when she retired because of the pain and was able to focus on full-time rehabilitation. Back pain is no joke. Even the best doctors don’t know much when it comes down to it.
  21. Levi’s injury concerns me because it’s his back. It’s not like a broken arm or leg that has a set “heal date”, back injuries can linger for decades among anyone, even people who aren’t playing a violent sport for a living. Its not likely ever really going to be like it was five years ago, even if it gets to a place he’s comfortable pushing through. And at his position, every play is like another car wreck, doing more damage to his back.
  22. NFHS (high school) football still has the 5-yard face mask penalty for inadvertent grasping of the face mask, in addition to the 15-yard penalty for grasping and twisting or grasping and tackling. Allows the official to have more latitude in that penalty for this exact reason. NFL did away with the 5-yard variety a number of years ago. Beats me why.
  23. Just watched Hard Knocks episode 3… of all the bubble guys on this team they chose Eze and Pimpleton? Okay I guess.
  24. Yeah I think it comes down to our different valuations of him as a player. I think he’s potential to be a top five TE in the league (though that hasn’t shown itself yet). I don’t have an issue franchising him though if he’s good this year.
  25. I wouldn't approach it like this. He still fills a need on this team for TE1, it's not like James Mitchell or Brock Wright could plug-and-play his role if he wasn't re-signed, so money has to go to a TE somewhere. If he's willing to get paid for being a TE1 but not ask for Travis Kelce or George Kittle type money ($15MM+), I think he's worth it.
