I agree with this. I would be surprised (and concerned) if Holmes does not sign a proven NFL talent to start at LG next season. If not, you are basically tying your hands in the draft, and you are assuming that the player you are drafting has to be capable of starting in the NFL right away. And what we've seen from Awosike or Sorsdal makes them suspect even as backups.

Exactly the kind of guy we have come to expect Brad Holmes to acquire via trade or FA. Also exactly the scenario we have come to expect of him, buying low on a guy with an injury history. The only source I’ve seen reporting the pick number is Sportrac which says it is pick 73. So Holmes is not buying as low as I initially heard. Yes, that 73rd pick could turn into a good player, but I think they feel they are good enough that they don’t want to wait half a season for a 3rd round rookie CB to unseat the Kindle Vildors of the world. At worst Davis is a significant upgrade in Week 1 over what they were running out at CB2 last season. At best they also find a long term answer in the draft.

I haven’t heard an official timeline but he played a year and a day after his previous ACL tear. Will he recover from this one faster? Maybe. Slower? Maybe. But I don’t think Holmes is or should be assuming that Moseley will be ready for the start of the season.

Lockett and Metcalf are really good. They let Wilson do what he did best which was to buy time and heave it up.

Moseley won’t be ready to start the season, he might not be ready until halfway through the season, and at this point he is a toss up to finish the season. No, he will not be CB 1 or 2. He is a bet by Holmes who likes to buy low on injured players.

Seems like their free agent strategy has been similar to their coaching strategy. Sign a bunch of credible names at reasonable salaries and let things sort themselves out. I don’t think for a minute that they were or are satisfied with their CB room. But as Michigan Cardinal points out, the only difference maker at that position they could get in the draft was a slot guy. Holmes has not been shy about moving up to get his players. Will be interesting to see if he moves up to fill the corner need, which is overwhelmingly the team’s greatest weakness.

Probably why they were so patient with, and publicly supportive of, Cam Sutton. They knew what they were getting. They knew his strengths and weaknesses, and they knew they might have to put him in some difficult positions and let him do the best he could.

Maybe Newmark had a GM finally come in to pick his players and then immediately decided to bolt. Or maybe he was just a guy on the staff and this will mean nothing to the team going forward.

Well, Sorsdal did not get the nod at the end of the year when Jackson was out. This is not promising but clearly Sorsdal was drafted as a project. Jackson is better than he is being credited for here but with his injury history he does not merit a big multi-year deal.

There was a big drop off from Jackson. I think Awosika improved during his stint replacing Jackson but there is still a marked difference. That said, there are several other guards in line to get paid. I don’t know their injury history, but Jackson has missed nine games over two seasons. That will not help his market. Also, as someone pointed out (MB?) Detroit will give him his best chance at a Super Bowl. This article (take it for what it’s worth) suggests a one year prove it deal, $3.5 million, $2 million guaranteed. Uhh… did I miss a blown call? SF missed a PAT in regulation then missed a chance to take it down the field and walk off in OT. They couldn’t score the TD and settled for the FG. Reid is a great coach. Mahomes is a great QB. Maybe Shanahan should have gone for it instead of kick the FG.
