Yzerman has drafted a lot of size. Even though Savoie is basically Yzerman's size (5'9" 179), Kasper is five inches taller (6'2"). And comparing him to current NHL players it looks like Savoie is likely to top out not much more than his current weight but Kasper (at 187) may top 200 lbs before his development is done. In three years the Red Wings will be a very punishing team to play against.

As far as what Yzerman thinks about the 18-year-old, he said, “We think he has underrated skill, and we think he has the ability to play in our top six”, to ESPN’s Emily Kaplan. https://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2022/7/7/23199349/red-wings-select-marco-kasper-at-8th-overall-in-2022-nhl-draft

I didn't instigate anything. I just disagreed with those who were mad at Chris I that he didn't voice their anger toward Avila during Lalonde's press conference. You seem to be offended that I dare disagree. That's up to you, dude, but don't pretend you're not the one chasing me around trying to police differences of opinion.

So the Browns have now effectively used four first round picks, a third round pick, and a fourth round pick to get two fifth round picks and Jacoby Brissett as their starter for week 1 and indefinitely thereafter.

Nobody on this board is saying a word about Bob Wojnowski, but if anyone knows how to make a headline it is him. And he made one. Just not the one this board wanted.

What happened to “respectful”? Oh it was a red herring to begin with. LOL Whatever. It would have been low class and even damaging to turn Lalonde’s press conference into a news event about Avila’s job status.

Yes, Ilitch's comments at this very press conference were turned into a headline in the Detroit Free Press. Have you heard of it? "Detroit Tigers owner Christopher Ilitch 'very pleased with the progress' in 2022" You must realize that Christopher Ilitch is rich and has been his whole life. Literally every time in his adult life that he has said something he has had to expect that it would be printed in the paper. Certainly he knows this about a press conference. And certainly he has a media consultant to prepare him for a press conference like this. And certainly they discussed the inevitable question about the Tigers, and certainly they chose to answer it this way. Of course there are a lot of fans who had the misguided belief that this team might contend this season, and some of them may have maintained that delusion after Riley Greene got injured in the pre-season. I don't know what fans like this expected once the whole staff got injured, then their new acquisition Meadows got dizzy. The wheels fell off the wagon. But they have had some young pitchers come up and perform well, and once Riley Greene arrived it is like a new team offensively. Still, these fans are butt hurt that their fantasy of contending this season won't come true and they wanted Ilitch to use Lalonde's press conference to rub Avila's face in ****. Yeah, that would have been real classy. "Here you go Lalonde, this is what you're getting in for. I'm taking your moment in the spotlight to send a message to another one of my employees. And guess what? If you have a rough season I'm the kind of boss who would publicly embarrass you too." I agree that Avila has stuck around far too long. But fans like this are living in a fantasy world. An owner who did the things fans like this want would turn the team from a sad sack into a legitimate laughing stock.

Yes and then the headline for the announcement of the new Wings head coach is, “Ilitch Blasts Tigers at Lalonde Intro.”

What was he supposed to say? "Sorry Derek, I know this is your big moment and all, but I have a lot of things to get off my chest about Al Avila and that dumpster fire he's sitting on." Yes, that would be a great way to alienate the coach you just hired at the very moment you are introducing him.

Red Wings looking for a Head Coach
Jason_R replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Red Wings
It was obvious from Yzerman's press conference that he was going to hire someone he had worked with. Unless someone thought he meant Babcock, it was pretty clear he was going to Tampa. Of Tampa's three assistants, Lalonde has by far the most impressive resume. Halpern has never been a head coach and Zettler was just above .500 as a head coach in the AHL. -

Everybody called it. -
Browns gonna Brown.
-
Yes, it was like he did it at the spur of the moment... or he intended to deceive the TB player. After they missed the too many men on the ice call on the GW OT goal a few nights earlier they could have called it earlier.
-
Well Colorado is good, but Tampa certainly didn’t get any calls. What was with waving off icing at the last minute with 26 seconds to go?
-
Root root root for the home team, if they don’t win it’s a shame…
-
They should have come out right away and said they drafted him as an athlete, and they plan to use him like Sean Payton used Taysom Hill. All of the 1st round QB hype might destroy this kid before he ever sees the field.

We need a Game 7.

True story, I used to see this guy in a coffee shop. In the suit.

With Stevie Y and Brad Holmes in town we are learning fast what a good GM can accomplish.

Lions Draft Grades and After Draft Talk/What's Next?
Jason_R replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Lions
As you explained, he's played like 4 games. In two years. This is why people call him a bust. If he makes the team, it is likely to be as a #3 or #4 corner. In a weak secondary. Next year's 1st round draft pick is more likely to be a CB than a QB. -
So you’re saying he pulled out just in time?
-
Maybe but I think these teams get a lot of medical detail that would help them gauge the player's progress against normal recovery timelines. And none of the teams who drafted ahead of Detroit could wait. Atlanta is in year two of a new coaching staff, rolling with Marcus Mariota. They aren't going to make him do what Jared Goff did last year, which is play half a season with just a TE. NYJ have a young QB who might be broken for good if he starts this season slow. The Saints are trying to ride on the fumes of a HOF coach and QB, and they knew then what we now know, that Michael Thomas is messed up bad. ACL recovery is typically 9-12 months and he got injured in January. Hopefully Williams is ready to play before Halloween.
-
Dan Snyder. Even a worse owner than William Clay Ford.
-
If teams thought he would have been ready for week 1, he wouldn’t have been the fourth guy off the board. But Holmes has low expectations on him for this season and a long runway. So if he can’t play until mid season, that’s fine.
