Most of the TE to Detroit talk is from national media who only know a few things about the Lions, one of which is the Hockenson trade. I don’t believe that Holmes thinks the position is a weakness, but it is a deep TE draft and if a TE ends up being the BPA they will take him. If Carter is on the board at 6, I haven’t heard anything that would make me not take him. Witherspoon seems like a great fit, but I’m not thrilled about him at 6. I feel better about Gonzalez’s physical tools at 6 (but still not great), but he doesn’t seem to be as good of a fit as Witherspoon. If Bijan is there at 18, the defense has improved enough through FA and pick #6 to take him.

You're exactly right. Stafford dragged McVay across the finish line. That Super Bowl season pushed off what would likely have been an early flame out to McVay's head coaching career. It is still easy to imagine McVay flaming out if he has another disappointing season next year, or wearing out his welcome if his coaches or players turn on him as it seems was about to happen at the end of last season.

Yes he is probably the best coach ever but no he is not the same guy now as he was 10, 15, 20 years ago.

Unfortunate for him, but when they signed Payne to the big extension it seemed like an indication they had chosen him over Young as the anchor of their DL.

I don’t want Johnston. I’d be mildly disappointed with Gonzalez at 6 and disappointed with Witherspoon there. But sign me to for Witherspoon or Porter at 18. At 6 it has to be DL. Carter or Wilson. But if they do something crazy like take Bijan there I’ll be intrigued.
