Trump ain't Don Vito though, he's Fredo.

Holy fuck!!!!!!! He was coordinating the coup all along it seems.

I wanted to quote Fife but couldn't find the post, so I'll try to recreate it: @Archie anything you care to say?

Even if gas prices have peaked if they straddle continuously around the $4-$5 range Democrats will be hurting bad electorally. Gas needs to get in the $3 range nationally and I would suspect inflation needs to dip at minimum a couple of points for Democrats to have a shot
-
As James Carville said, it's the economy stupid. Inflation and gas prices will be the deciding factor and the Republicans will secure a House majority for sure and have at least a 50% chance at the Senate.

Abortion and the Politics of Reproductive Rights in the Post-Roe Era
Mr.TaterSalad replied to chasfh's topic in Politics
I don't think so. It's pretty cut and dry I think. Gas prices are high, inflation is way up, people's groceries cost more, and they'll go vote Republican because of it. -
The most likely scenario is Biden gets 1 more Supreme Court Justice pick, but . . . It comes after the Republicans have taken back control of the Senate andMcConnell will delay the nomination until 2024/2025.

They don't even try to disguise their brown shirts anymore.

As dense as that dumb fuck from Maine Susan Collins.
-
It's funny that the same group of people that steam over participation trophies being handed out support the ultimate participation trophy in the Electoral College.
-
What a country we live in where the loser gets to be elected President, on two separate occasions, and gets to appoint 5 Supreme Court Justices between the two losers. I think the Super Bowl and Stanley Cup should start going to the losing teams from now on since something as important as the US Presidency does.

Weren't we told we're just getting hyperbolic about how extreme these Christian Fundamentalists in the Republican Party are? Weren't we told they weren't going to overturn Roe and that was unnecessary worry on our parts?
-
They could have invoked the 25th Amendment.

He doesn't post here that often anymore because of stupid stuff like this. Everyone knows that everybody asks for pardons. It's just something regular, innocent, beautiful people do.
-
Can you imagine being a fly on the wall in Trump's bunker today and throughout this whole hearing. What a sight it must be to see him going ape sit in his bunker.
-
Why would Gaetz, Gohmert, Greene, Gym Jordan, Perry ask for pardons if they didn't do anything wrong? Why else would anyone ask for a pardon?
-
Can you imagine if Al Gore had a bunch of activists storm the Supreme Court or Kathrine Harris' SOS office in Florida during the 2000 election? Can you imagine what the Republican reaction would have been?

CNN: Elon Musk's child tells court she no longer wants 'to be related' to her dad I don't know the whole, truthful story of what's going on between Musk and his daughter and it wouldn't be fair on my part to fully speculate. But the more that comes out about Musk, the more he sounds and looks like a miserable human being.

That's some demented and sick shit right there.

I had a post all lined up and now I can't remember what I was going to post. For the record, mocking Reagan for having a debilitating brain disease ain't really cool and I don't enjoy doing it. But since Dr. Bunker's always out here blasting away at Biden for being a demented old bat, I would like to remind him of who the person was that actually had a brain health and memory loss issue while sering as President.

I disagree that one particular group doesn't have a hold over the party. I think Bill Clinton proved 25 years ago that the centerists will crush anyone that gets in their way and they'll do what they want. Deregulation, NAFTA, welfare reforms, pushing a homophobic agenda to ban gay marriage, Clinton got everything he wanted. Barack Obama again proved centrist dominance in the 2010s by extending the NSA program, passing the NDAA, killing the public option in Obamacare, and ensuring the misery of millions of Americans by bailing out Wall Street instead of homeowners, and ensuring the stimulus he passed was negligible in nature. Joe Biden's victory over both Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, coupled with the air tight control that Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin have on the Senate proves continued centrist dominance. Progressives lost control of the party in the 80s and 90s when all the FDR and New Deal Democrats were pushed out in favor of pro-corporate, Third Way Democrats. Centrists have won almost every big, significant policy fight in D.C. over progressives over the past 30 years.

Hungary under Viktor Orban is one that comes to mind. It is no surprise that Trump loves and endorsed Orban for re-election. I think an ideal MAGA country would be a hybrid between George Wallace's Alabama of the 1960's and Viktor Orban's Hungary of the present day. Jair Bolsonaro and what he's done in Brazil is another example of what MAGA folks would like our nation to embody and be like.

You're welcome! Justin Townes Earle is one of the most underrated songwriters out there. I say that not because he has since passed away, but felt it when he was alive too. He's a true storyteller with the music he wrote. I don't have a specific starting point if you're interested in getting into more of his music. I would just recommend going to his Spotify page and hitting shuffle. You can't go wrong with almost anything he's put out. Some of his stuff is more country-leaning, some of it-bluesy rock, some of it straight up rock, some of it Americana.

That probably part of the plan. They want to privatize schools and turn education into a for-profit, cottage industry. Once they do that, they will deregulate all education standards and credentialing required for being a teacher. The skills and preparation it takes to be a high quality, good educator of young minds means little to a lot of people on the far right. If you teach the bible, creationism, biblical literalism, the Earth being only 7,000 years old, anti-abortion education, that being gay is a mortal sin, that the Civil War was caused by northern aggression, that there are differences between the races, we aren't all equal, gun ownership is a necessity and immigrants are poisoning our society, the right would have no problem with any of that. All of the certifications and requirements for becoming a teacher are unnecessary burdens and red tape. Furthermore, they would tell us that we need to stop all the grooming and liberal indoctrination that modern day teachers do. When they went to school a teacher could take their belt or the back of their hand to you. You bent down and prayed apparently at the start of every day and you said the words "Under God" in the pledge extra loud or something.
