  1. Look, this team needed both receiving threats and pass rushing help at the time they drafted Hockenson. Would you rather have an average blocking TE that gets you 60-65 receptions/750 yards/5-6 TDs like Hock or or an edge rusher that gets you 8-9 sacks and 45-50 tackles like Burns/Sweat. I get it, both probably balance out and one is not anymore valuable than the other at the end of the day. What ultimately hurts Hock in the eyes of the fans is that we had already as an organization drafted Brandon Pettigrew and Eric Ebron with 1st round picks and people were burnt out on the whole Lions wasting a 1st round pick on a TE when other organizations were finding great talents in later rounds. That argument isn't right and really offers no merit because what does one player have to do with another. Just because Butterfingers and Edrop flamed out has no barring on Hockenson as a player. But once again, fans were sold on the idea that they'd be getting a mismatch and a generational talent and thus far we didn't get it. What we got is a nice player, which really, is what both Burns and Sweat are too at the end of the day.
  2. Brian Burns, Montez Sweat, Devin Bush were all choices people wanted. Don't act like Oliver was the only other option.
  3. Of 32 starting TEs in 2021 Hockenson was 16th in total yards, 10th in receptions, 15th in TDs. So he is right near the middle/median for starting NFL TEs. Are you implying he is above or below average?
  4. The minute I saw this mock I knew I was going to be listening to Karsch and Anderson today so I could here them and half of Metro Detroit call in and lambast this crap. Imagine having top 10 picks 4 years running and your team comes away with an average pass catching/pass blocking TE, a CB who has started 7 games over 2 years, a great LT, and another CB. I don't think there is any planet where they pass on a DE for Sauce Gardner or any CB.
  5. Loading Zones is the corniest fucking jam in the world.
  6. Look, 40 times aren't the be all/end all of what makes a good player, Safety or otherwise, in the NFL. But if Hamilton really ran a 4.74 that is a giant red flag in my book. It indicates to me, even if his GPS time was faster, that he can't keep up with NFL-level players at WR and will get torched. I hope the Lions don't get cute at try to be smartest guys in the room by drafting Hamilton. I've wavered back and forth on him a bit, but I am officially out on wanting to even consider the guy anywhere in the top 10/top 15, whether picking at #2 or trading back a few spots.
  7. If you go off the trade value chart for draft picks I don't think they are realistic. Pick #2 is worth 2,600 points on the chart and picks #5 and #7 combined are worth 3,200 points. Of course the NFL draft and draft trades aren't perfect mathematical equations. If the Giants new GM Joe Schoen is as big an idiot as some other GMs who've made draft-related terrible trades, like Bruce Allen trading up for RGIII, then it could happen. I would think it's highly unlikely though.
  8. If we get the chance to draft Hutch I wonder how that effects our ability to trade back down. Is he the type of Edge Rusher, ala a Bosa brother or a Myles Garrett, that someone would want to pay a high price for and get?
  9. Really sad, awful news about Haskins. Thoughts go out to those who were the closest to him.
  10. That's something strong by Boris Johnson. Good for him for going and meeting with Zelensky and committing to aid for Ukraine.
  11. I'd be underwhelmed if they took George Karlaftis or Boye Mafe at #2 overall. The point was made earlier that Johnson was more productive in college than Walker was, so if you're willing to take Walker, why not Johnson. I think there is some merit to that argument, but Walker does seem to be a bit more explosive and athletic than Johnson in. I'm not smart enough to know who to take where, but my preference is still Hutch #1, Thibs #2, Walker #3. I guess I would slide Johnson in ahead of Kyle Hamilton or a WR at #2 at this point in the game too.
  12. Will this embolden the right wing now that they can get away with this kind of stuff?
  13. What did Birkett say (or Campbell) that hinted at them drafting Jermaine Johnson?
  14. If what Daniel Jeremiah says is true and Hamilton really ran a 4.7 then no waaaay am I waiting him drafted here. It's one thing to have game speed and be able to keep up with college players, it's a whole different game when you get to the NFL. I don't care how hard you can hit a guy, but if you're a defensive back and you really are that slow, how can you be expected to cover and keep up with NFL-level wideouts? If Hamilton can't cover or keep up with WRs and doesn't really get utilized in blitzing schemes, what is he at that point? A guy who covers TEs, drops down against the run like a LB, and makes a big hit after the catch? Is he just a slimmer LB? Does he get coached up to be a pass rushing safety who drops down in the box to blitz? If that's what he is, why not just draft an Edge Rusher who already has that as apart of his game and likely will do it better anyways?
  15. Nope, not at this point. Right now, until either QB flops and gives me a reason to think otherwise, I'm on the Bryce Young or CJ Stroud bandwagon. Until then, keep building as good a team around them, with as many weapons as possible, to be able to plug them into a rebuilt roster that's ready to win.
  16. Someone needs to put this guy in that study where Fox News viewers watch CNN or MSNBC or something other than right wing propaganda. If he's still spouting BS like this after that then I'll call him a dolt. Until then, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
  17. I really dislike almost every nfl.com mock draft for us this year. Two of the four have us taking a QB, Daniel Jeramiah has us taking Matt Corral and Pete Schreger has us taking Desmond Ridder, both at #32. Chad Reuter has us taking Malik Willis at #2. Then Bucky Brooks has us taking two Edge Rushers in Travon Walker and Arnold Ebiketie out of Penn State. Another draft analyst, Cynthia Frelund, has us taking Kyle Hamilton and David Ojabo, so a Safety and a guy who might miss most of next year do to injury. These are all terrible or underwhelming scenarios IMO. If the Lions are taking a QB, which would be the centerpiece of their franchise for a decade to come, that guy has to be taken #2 overall IMO. If that QB is so good that you believe he will be a franchise signal caller, why would you risk letting Desmond Ridder, Matt Corral, or Malik Willis get past you at #2?
  18. I like Walker too and would be ok with them taking him, this is where I have been throughout the entire process. Take one of Hutch or Thibs or Walker, get your dynamic Edge Rusher and carry on. Sometimes the most obvious and simple choice ends up the right one, I think that's what it is here. I wouldn't be upset if they traded out and got a nice haul either, but getting our QB disrupter on defense for the next decade is where I'm still at. I've been wrong about countless things I've wanted the Lions to do in the past by getting too cute or reaching on guys. Not this year, I want take one of the guys that makes the most sense for us, that's an Edge Rusher, and go home happy.
  19. The Highwomen are the shit! I love all four of them, but Brandi Carlile is my favorite of the four for sure.
  20. As many as he wants. And then when the next Dem comes in they add or subtract as well. The Supreme Court is a political hot potato thanks to both parties and that's just the way it is. We cannot just shrug our shoulders while women get arrested for having abortions, LGBTQ rights get reversed, marriage equality gets overturned, trans people get treated as lessthan or subhuman, voting rights get stripped away, union rights get stripped away, corporations are allowed run amuck on democracy and campaign finance, etc. I'm not going to hold up institutional norms for the sake of it when one political party, including many of their judicial appointments, don't even believe in the core principals of a free and democratic society anymore. I'm not watching Viktor Orban Jr. (Trump) and his minions turn us into an autocratic kleptocracy ala Hungary and destroy our democracy all for the sake of protecting "institutional norms" of years gone by. I would also favor adding term limits to all judicial appointments, not just to one position. I think 20-25 (25 at most) years on a federal, judicial bench should be enacted. So if you do 19 years on an Appellate Court and 1 year on the Supreme Court, you've hit your 20 years and must resign at the end of the 20th year.
  21. There needs to be two added to make up for McConnell stealing the Merrick Garland nomination. One for Garland not being added and one to ensure an odd number of justices remain. And the court has never had legitimacy as it excluded women and persons of color for generations. It's also proven itself a circus when it views corporate entities the same as living, breathing human beings, with the same rights.
  22. I find it hard top believe that the organization views and values Ridder as the better QB than Willis. The Bears valued Trubisky more than Watson and Mahomes, so anything is possible. I just don't see why you'd take a less athletic, but equally flawed QB in Ridder over Willis. If the Lions did what McShay is proposing I'd be very disappointed as I don't want any of the QBs, but certainly don't want Ridder over Willis.
  23. Or over "enhanced interrogation" aka authorizing torture of other human beings. But yes, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Condi Rice, Don Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Paul Bremmer, and anyone involved in the decision to torture or who was aware of Abu Ghraib should be tried for war crimes.
  24. I thought at first that the Saints were trying to trade up for Willis, but I don't know that two picks will be enough to get into the Top 5 if that's what's needed to draft Willis.
