Would Toronto accept this offer for Guerrero and Bichette?
HeyAbbott replied to sergioalpert66's topic in Detroit Tigers
In addition to everything else, Kerry Carpenter has had back problems. For outfielder, that can be the beginning of the end. Riley Greene has had a significant injury history already. I would be very reluctant to trade Clark for these reasons alone. -
Would Toronto accept this offer for Guerrero and Bichette?

1st rule when offering up a trade on this blog is-- put the bong down. This run is starting to suggest that the Tigers may be very close to having a prolonged run. A reasonable improvement at first and one more bullpen arm would be my take on improvements for this off-season. Clark and McGonigle are not tradeable as they are keys to the future. period. -
My following the Tigers goes back to 1961. The 1967 squad has always had a soft spot in my heart because it was so so close, yet so far, losing it on the last day of the season. That team was supposed to be pretty good at the beginning of the season though. This team is unprecedented and is rapidly becoming my all-time favorite Tiger team.

This tension is fun!

Didn't he know Abner Doubleday?

Every game at this point is a must win.

Shouldn't it be " Carpe diem , morons " ?

With respect to this year, I am just enjoying what is being pulled off. Next year, I would advise extreme caution in tweaking the roster. I am with those who think we need one more bat and one more solid deliver on the staff.
-
The real creativity this off-season would be to move on from both Javy and Tork. That being said, the Tigers are probably closer to being moved to Nashville than to cut ties with those two.

This is the key to the whole Bally problem. When Benetti is doing a national or regional broadcast, he is serious and focused. Far too frequently, the Tiger broadcast with Benettii revolves into yuk-yuk Beavis and Butthead like moments far,far too often. I cannot tolerate the endless human interest angles. I want to watch the game and I get very angry when even the most basic things like runs being scored and now being missed by the Bally buffoons.

For an MLB franchise to be firmly entrenched in a city these days, it needs to draw 2 million fans year after year. I think, starting in 2025, that will not be a problem.
-
It could happen someday as the Tiger's attendence is no where near average for MLB.

I cannot agree more. If there was a reasonably tepid replacement for Tork, one absolutely, and with no hesitation, take the replacement. I am damned sick and tired of seeing resources being squandered on him.

Sometimes it seems like we live in multiple eras at the same time. My great Aunt Bertha who lived to be almost 90, told me stories about the civil war passed down from her father , one of my gret grandfathers that were first hand eye witness accounts. Odd, but true.

If I were the GM, I would be looking for a new 1B and cut ties in one fashion or another with Tork. Those -.8 WAR career 1st basemen are generally easy to replace.
-
Tork has something like 1237 major league at bats. He is what he is. It is time to move on.

I think we are going to finish roughly where the consensus opinion was around February 14. It has been a fun season. The frustrating item about this season is the what-ifs that can be played. With just one more reliable bat or just a little more health and the Tigers would be in the playoffs.

Somehow,in my mind's ear, I keep hearing "Your love is taking me higher" playing in the background as this series is about to start. I get this gut feeling that this team is starting to gel and believe in itself.

So what would be a time frame for Javy's surgery and rehab.
-
I like the way the braintrust is handling things. Javy gets needed surgery and we find out what else we have to work with.
-
As long as they leave the Donkey that is dressed in a ballerina tutu alone, we won't hear about it.
-
I was not happy to see this. He is what he is-- an atrocious fielding 1st baseman that can't run, can't hit a middle middle fastball, and will be nothing more than a sub replacement player for the rest of his career. I understand why it is being done. I would have preferred him to win his position in the spring.

Baez is done. Theoretically speaking, I would think the Tigers could find a zero WAR player with some upside that would permit us to move on. A .5 WAR player would be fine in my book. The true opportunity cost is the message it sends both inside and outside the org about the Tigers and their approach to getting better. Baez holds no possibility of being any better than he is now. Someone else has some chance to be better than Baez. The decision is very simple.

I agree. The organization will need a circus act to get butts in seats. "Toaster" Torkelson fills the bill.

2024 - 2025 Detroit Tigers Offseason
HeyAbbott replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Tigers
I am not fond of that, but in certain cases it might be OK. Anytime one obtains a free agent, I think in most cases, on pays a 6 year contract in the hopes of having 2 good years
