salary floor is so artificial; should not be paying players just to reach it; pay talented players for their talent
of course, salary "cap" - which is what luxury tax really operates as - is also artificial
- knock control down to 5 years, not 6; 2 not 3 years of arbitration; minimum salary 1M; 27 man roster; with 26 active
a find a way to stop service time manipulation. (do not know how)
revenues have increased 40% since this CBA started and owners want to decrease luxury tax by 20% - that's nuts
more Kreidler hype;
https://blogs.fangraphs.com/his-swing-remade-tigers-prospect-ryan-kreidler-is-now-dangerous-in-the-box/
Ryan Kreidler isn’t the same hitter that Eric Longenhagen and Kevin Goldstein described when they put together our Detroit Tigers Top Prospects List last spring...
I think the tigers should have a back up plan, but right now, Tork and Greene are penciled in the line up for opening day
also, Keith Law hates the Tigers
I would endorse this - IF the tigers actually ever hit on a guy, but they haven't outside of Wily Peralta
instead of $20M for Urena, Tehern, Matt Moore, Ross, Holland, Nova they could have had a real contributor
I would have canned Al long ago - drafting, trading (ugh), and free agency fails abounded
but boy has he been doing a good job for the last few years
total reversal of outcomes
Rondon would be a high risk / high reward signing, say 1/24. But Boras looking for multiple years IMO.
then lots of options for 2023: Alexander, Wentz, Faedo, Turnbull, Brieske, Madden
like everyone else, would have preferred Correa, but not losing another high pick (when they finally seemed to have figured out how to draft well) is a bonus, and if Al's allowance is not all gone, adding Chafin, and maybe a lesser SP and maybe a bat, perhaps that is just as good
the tigers have developed just one SS in the last 2 decades, trading him away (Adames), so they are going to have to pay a premium to get a new SS
if they get one in free agency, that premium will be paid in $$$
if they wait until Feb, during that scramble, that premium will be paid in young talent thru a trade
I am as high as anyone on Kreidler, but you cannot rely on him for SS in 2022
