2024 - 2025 Detroit Tigers Offseason
RatkoVarda replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Tigers
Picks for Detroit are: Flaherty, Manaea, Teoscar Hernandez, Christian Walker, Severino, Quintana, Max, Goldschmidt, and Buehler (2). All of those makes some sense depending on which way Harris goes. -
1. I had already mentally prepared myself for a Trump win in the Spring, so this is not as bad as 2016 for me 2. Trump would have rolled Biden, so I'm glad they tried Harris 3. This is exactly what about half the country wants - a vile entertainer who insults and degrades their fellow Americans. 4. Ukraine is fukked 5. The Ronz's hardcore analysis proved correct 6. Steve Bannon's plan continues to work wonderfully. Flood the zone with sh|t, and then institutions, the media, and the public get overwhelmed and basically shutdown. This is where I am. I am going to the Tigers and Lions boards, and that's it for me. (Trump has no plan to help 95% of his supporters. He will probably cut my taxes, and, if he does not crash the stock markets, he will be good (maybe very good) financially for my family and my wife's business. I have no more energy to explain to a relative literally living in a camper under power lines that Trump is not going to help him.) 7. The Supreme Court is lost for the rest of my life. Trump will appoint 5 MAGA justices when Alito and Thomas step down. If Sotomayor dies, that's 6. And I would not be surprised if Roberts is told to step down in Trump's final year, so that would be 7. Say goodbye to ACA, gay marriage, EPA, voting rights, equal rights, civil rights, queer rights, etc. 8. None of this is as depressing as what my son (who voted in his 1st POTUS race) asked: if Americans won't elect a woman, why do we keep running them? He's right. A lot of Americans won't vote for a woman POTUS. Biden was the worst candidate of Biden, Hillary and Harris, and Biden won.

1B Christian Walker got tagged with QO; was a possible but unlikely replacement for Tork, but now cannot see Harris giving up a 3rd round pick to sign him -

if he could do it over, Holmes would probably keep the 6th round pick and forego DPJ. but they have to make a move; cannot be in the Superdome in Feb wanting a better pass rush against Mahomes -
terrified. I saying the same things I said in 2016; no way he can win; might be a blow out; good people will come to their senses. there are a lot of people who won't vote for a woman or a minority, so she's got 2 strikes on her before steps to the plate but Trump is vile on every level, I have to assume people are sick of his sh\t

I would venture there is a 10% chance that Jung outperforms Suarez in 2025; a one-year deal for a much better defender and an opposite hand bat is exactly the right type of move Harris should be making; a short term upgrade that does not block anyone long term; can play full time or part time; can move on from him if needed, but his presence does not force them to play someone who is not performing; the money is irrelevant

they have 3 crappy QBs - not sure what he is supposed to do

Kim had surgery on his throwing shoulder, might be out until May (June?). insanely risky to sign a guy long term whose value relies so much on his defense coming off a shoulder injury, but could be an opportunity there -

they were just above average offsensively during their 2 month sprint no one really knows if they are in store for a regression, will produce the same, or are about to explode in what would be a remarkable player development success story if some of Tork, Jung, Sweeney, Perez, Malloy and Dingler join Green, Meadows, Carpenter and Keith as consistently productive major leaguers - that's going to be great but logic dictates not all of them will make it and some might regress he has not made a BIG TRADE yet, but all of Harris' trades have been good, and it's possible some might turn out great - so I would be confident in the return if he made an impactful trade in addition to spending money for impactful bat -

this is an awesome idea; Montgomery + Arizona's Competitive Balance Pick for Maeda. Tigers buy ~64th pick and get the better pitcher, all for $12.5M. -

this is where we are headed, because GOP does not pay a price for their fascism - but are rewarded for it This guy will probably become a MAGA star. We are doomed. "We all know who really won, so it would be wrong not to award electors to Trump."

this guy also did not see it?

The Athletic proposal seems to good to be true Raiders trade DE Maxx Crosby to Lions for a 2025 first-round pick and a 2026 third-round pick -
serious conservative thought leader Tucker Carlson - man, the GOP is just gone

again "We've arranged a society based on science and technology, in which nobody understands anything about science technology. And this combustible mixture of ignorance and power, sooner or later, is going to blow up in our faces. Who is running the science and technology in a democracy if the people don't know anything about it?" "Science is more than a body of knowledge, it's a way of thinking. A way of skeptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility. If we are not able to ask skeptical questions, to interrogate those who tell us that something is true, to be skeptical of those in authority, then we're up for grabs for the next charlatan, political or religious, who comes ambling along."

Tork was somewhat better after returning from his demotion, but his best self is just not happening here is there a similar struggling young player who 1) might be a better fit and 2) like Tork, benefit from a change? don't think STL is giving up on Jordan Walker, but he's a RH bat Bret Baty? Curtis Mead? Oswald Peraza? Noelvi Marte? prefer they move on and sign Walker while waiting for Briceno/Liranzo
-
both things can be true: Briceno/Liranzo are raking, and the pitching they are cloberring is meh Casper Wells (below) raked when he was 23/24, but Briceno/Liranzo are quite young (20/21) even for AFL

Thursday night, the Vikings are at the Rams so I propose Stafford and Darnold switch locker rooms after a halftime trade

in general, any seller team knows the Lions have 1) a huge need and 2) a huge goal (SB win) - so every team is going to try to extract a premium from Brad knowing he has to do something I would look at LAC - new coach might mean a reassessment of players, maybe Mack or Dupree for short term fix, or Tuipulotu for longer term impact -
Week Seven: Detroit Lions (4-1) @ Minnesota Vikings (5-0)
RatkoVarda replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
to me, they look like the STL Rams with Kurt Warner and the Greatest Show on Turf if the offense is healthy, it is going to put points (multiple TDs) on the board vs any team and if a team falls behind, they become one dimensional trying to keep up would they lose a playoff game at Ford Field? -
