  1. Some random numbers with one week to go before pitchers and catchers report: 1934 – 1st year the Tigers played in Lakeland .441 – Hinch’s 2 year winning percentage with the Tigers .632 - the 2022 Tigers had a .632 OPS, the worst team mark in 120 years 37% - Tigers finished last in team HRs, and lost players who accounted for 37% of total 0 – number of major league free agents Harris signed to help the offense $17,000,000.00 - the 2023 Tigers are on pace to have a payroll $17M less than 2022 $40,000,000.00 – Tigers owe Miggy $32M for 2023 + $8M buyout for 2024 2023 – early prediction for 2023 team MVP: Regressionto Themean (IF/OF)
  2. I LOL'ed. Like a unemployed brother-in-law in your basement. “He’s still with us,” said Ryan Garko
  3. the Feliciano one is great; super bitter at the Brewers after reading those pieces, you think it will hard for them to lose one game this year!
  4. FG on Lange; https://blogs.fangraphs.com/alex-lange-loves-his-curves-but-not-his-edges/
  5. trading Nick (who could have gotten a better return at the time) and keeping Saurez would have changed so much; c'est la vie
  6. FG has Baltimore's top 38 prospects list out. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/baltimore-orioles-top-38-prospects-2023/ O's have zoomed past the Tigers at both the major and minor league levels.
  7. madness. because the FF would never take a musket away from Jebediah, we are not allowed to take guns away from domestic abusers in 2023. illogical on every level.
  8. 2 weeks from today pitchers and catchers report.
  9. a healthy Vaitai seems to be a better guard than Evan Brown, but Brown is more versatile, and Ragnow has consistently missed some games. I would pick Brown over Vaitai, but maybe that is not the right question. Is the assumption they won't bring back both?
  10. I have not read the whole article but was surprised by how often positive Law was about lots of guys, sometime gushing about their potential. Always best to bet against guys because most of them will fail/flail.
  11. Law's Top 100: Jobe and Jung in 80s; Lawler at 9; Mayer 11
  12. have they drafted talented guys who went onto success elsewhere? They are definitely bad at both, but I have no idea which is bigger problem
  13. Scott "Calculated Risk" Harris still hard at work I see.
  14. illogical decision on his part; love it!
  15. what is Connor Cook doing?
  16. this is surprising, mock from The Athletic 6. Detroit Lions (via L.A. Rams): Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon After Anderson and Carter, there is a clear drop-off to the next tier of non-quarterback prospects in this class. Christian Gonzalez flashed enough at Colorado to earn the No. 9 spot on my summer top-50 board, and he lived up to that hype in his one season at Oregon. With his speed/length athletic profile and the Lions’ need at cornerback, Gonzalez (the brother-in-law of former Lions’ backup quarterback David Blough) should be on Detroit’s short list for its first of two Round 1 picks. 15. Detroit Lions (via Green Bay): Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida Projected trade: No. 15 for Nos. 18 and 48 In last year’s first round, the Lions made a major trade with a division foe to move up for a high-upside offensive star (Jameson Williams). They could do it again this year and invest in their future at the quarterback position. Thanks to his size, athleticism and arm, Anthony Richardson is a total freak show with a high ceiling, but he’s still figuring out how to be a consistent passer. Jared Goff’s presence would let Detroit develop Richardson at his own pace.
  17. Lynn bemoaned the lack of an international draft; admitted that the Tigers are not currently in a position to exploit the current exploitive, unseemly system; made a good point that they only signed DR and Ven kids; other teams are operating elsewhere. It’s a virtually lawless, sordid world, the underground that doubles as a baseball environment while it plays out with these teens
  18. LHR - Chafin would be their 2nd best, or best, reliever if they signed him; probably won't happen another LH infielder would be nice
  19. Cisnero will be 34; the next oldest guys in the bullpen are Alexander (29 in July) and Vest (28 in June); maybe they wanted an old guy mixed in with the youth?
  20. deadline for arbitration salary numbers is today; Garcia and Cisnero only 2 left; if they settle before hearing, 2023 salary guaranteed current straight payroll at 118M, 17M less than last year
  21. Short somehow is still on the 40, so Uceta might make it a while. I see the As of all teams signed a Japanese player after grabbing an American who played in Japan as well. International signings for teenagers come next week, but Asia is one more thing Harris needs to look at
