  1. 2 Thompson notes: he is under control for at least 3 more years, so that would be thru Year 10 of 20 of The Rebuild; and his WAR is not that high on every site, but regardless it would be the biggest WAR on the Tigers
  2. this is small potatoes but has been bugging me. Can someone explain the Trayce Thompson move? The Tigers pick him up after Padres release him (not surprising with various ex-Dodgers now in organization; he had his best run with them). He hits 8 HR in a month at Toledo, and then the Tigers sell him to the Dodgers, where he has put up 1.4 WAR in limited playing time. So the guy who could not get ABs with this garbage team is a rotational piece for the best team in the NL? Again, swing and miss.
  3. FG mentions that AJ could replace Al; I guess with Lombard as manager https://blogs.fangraphs.com/sunday-notes-detroits-next-gm-might-be-in-the-dugout/
  4. Baltimore is 5 games over .500; this team is garbage
  5. can Carpenter get to Detroit for the bottom of the 9th?
  6. not much reason to trust the Tigers making the correct call, but they have been generally aggressive with Tork and Greene; also Carpenter, Meadows, Pacheco, Wencel, Lipcius, Madden, Bergner were all promoted. hope Carpenter and Kreidel get long looks in September in Det and Sanchez, Dingler, Couch all up makes sense to me; just let Tucker go and end that embarrassment
  7. The Rangers had Prince Fielder on the DL for a year because their insurance on their share only kicked in if he was injured and not released. They worked it out with the insurance company to release him and freed up a 40 man roster spot. Assuming that Tigers do have insurance. Assuming that they cannot avail themselves of it if Miggy says he can play.
  8. Kingston Liniak released
  9. maybe but giving DET ABs to Willi and Victor over Baddoo and Daz seems dumb
  10. Toledo has one OF (Carpenter)
  11. C- Haase, Rogers, Sanchez, with Dingler probably still in future plans - with so many problems, this may just be it unfortunately 1b - Tork; need to have back up plan, which might be Schoop 2b - Javy SS - 3 elite SS and Swanson will be available - get one 3b - goodbye to Candy; Kreidler; Clemens?; rando cheap FA LF - Meadows, Baddoo, Carpenter (DH too) CF - Greene RF- need RH power Castros, Victor, Daz, Short - irrelevant
  12. just give him a literal GIANT CHECK for $40M; stretching it out might give Chris too many BS excuses over the next few years to not do something
  13. not sure what he can do with one good back up catcher, newbie Greene, a struggling Baez, and 11 guys who should be in AAA or released.
  14. how can people look at this and not fire someone? maybe the better question is, how can people look at this?
  15. Having the DH spot available will help; now they just need 4-6 more ML bats
  16. 4 singles, a BB and 2 HBPs. They are awful and boring.
  17. let's see what Ali Sanchez can do
  18. Fri Sat Sun, Sept 30 to Oct 2, they can do a nice tribute weekend. hell make it all week. here's a check for $40M, thanks for everything. we have a cushy Tiger ambassador job if you are interested
  19. Boyd, Fulmer, JV, JD, Castellanos, Upton, Kinsler = Alex Lange
  20. when DD traded Fister, he said he had a list of 1 guy he had to have and then reached out to 10-15 teams; Nats agreed to include Ray, so trade got done; I don't think it is an exaggeration to say that Al is afraid - terrified really - to make a mistake; every transaction he does is from The Basics of GMing from 1986; conservative, old school; get a handful of guys and hope one works out
  21. many of the young arms, regardless of level, are going to hit their innings limits soon. So come September none of those guys will be pitching in Det
  22. from article But as the Tigers rinse and repeat the underwhelming feelings of the past few trade deadlines — Daniel Norris for Reese Olson, Cameron Maybin for Zack Short, Nick Castellanos for Alex Lange and Paul Richan, Shane Greene for Joey Wentz and Travis Demeritte — it’s all too clear the team, which had such high hopes entering the season, is stuck in a spiral of misery.
