Week Fourteen: Dallas Cowboys (6-5-1) @ Detroit Lions (7-5)
sagnam replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
The Cowboys defense has allowed 21.7 points per game since acquiring Quinnen Williams prior to the Nov. 4's trade deadline, a remarkable improvement from the 30.8 PPG the unit allowed from Weeks 1-9, which ranked 31st in the league over that span. Williams presence has elevated Dallas' pass rush, which has notched 8.0 sacks in the last three games since his arrival. The Cowboys have also improved in their rushing defense during the win streak by not allowing any opposing running back to get over the 60-yard mark in that span. source: https://www.nfl.com/news/cowboys-exuding-confidence-after-win-over-chiefs-we-ll-play-anybody-anywhere -
No arguments there about needing help. If the Packers or some other annoying team like the 49ers stumble and the Lions back in, great. Anything can happen in the tournament, I guess. I just won’t have a rooting interest in other games based on how it affects the Lions. That ship has sailed for me with the pathetic showing the last few weeks. I hope the Bears win the NFC’s top seed. I like TB too, so maybe they can go on a little run. Rams are my 3rd choice. I guess my respect for Stafford outweighs my dislike of McVay. Although I actually didn’t mind that they lost to Carolina, so maybe I don’t care about them at all?

He was saying we should not want to root for the Bears because the Bears losing to the Packers helps our chances. I was saying I don’t care about that. I want the Bears to win every game not against Detroit. If the Lions win out, great. That would be amazing. But I’m not going to hope that the Bears lose to the Packers. I hate the Packers and respect what the Bears are doing with the players they have.

I don’t care about that. The Lions have played their way into this situation, they need to play their way out. Not rely on others to lose to save them.

I’m not convinced they’ll be the favorite for Dallas. Dallas has a lethal passing offense and a strong interior DL. Will Goff have time and be able to find passing lanes? Can we cover the big 2 receivers long enough to slow them down? This game on paper could be a bad time. -
They’ve earned it. I think I’m going to root for them outside of when they play Detroit.

On fourth-down decisions, unpredictability matters -
Imagine he noped out after seeing that IOL is not the only issue with this team. It might not even be the biggest issue. I do not believe he has a grade 3 hamstring tear.

Ben, wtf dude? He has Schwartz written all over him. Absolutely amazing coordinator, too emotional for head coach.

Calm down, you aren’t a professional. You are on a message board like the rest of us. -

I think the coaches are being stupid playing crappy players like Raymond and Kennedy over him and it’s indicative of a bigger issue. We hoard draft picks like they are prized possessions because the players we draft will help us win but then after spending all that draft capital we don’t even play the player. I like the fact that he caught a TD on 2 targets is some sort of vindication. -

The Packes have a good defense. Why? Is it the DB’s? Nope. It’s the pass rush and LBs. We have the linebackers. We do not have the pass rush. I think we are multiple players away from having a good pass rush. Maybe with some zone blitzes mixed in we could loosen up the pass protections. Who knows? We are married to playing man to man and hoping for the opponent to make mistakes instead of just making plays ourselves. -

Did you read the posts? He has been out snapped by Raymond all year. I am judging him based off not being better than Raymond. That’s a big deal, Raymond is not a very talented receiver. Maybe he will be used more next year! I can’t wait for next year to talk about all the players on the roster that will be valuable the year after. -

And to be clear, he’s been out snapped by Reynolds all year and out targeted by Kennedy fresh off the practice squad today. That has nothing to do with being the whatever number option. That’s about not being able to beat out Reynolds or Kennedy to get on the field. -

He’s the 3rd/4th option now? He should be the 2nd option at worst now. -

Last complaint. An NFL defense starts and ends with it’s pass rush. We don’t have consistent pass rush. This has been an issue for years. The Eagles consistently have a good defense despite all that churn specifically because they aren’t married to draft and develop. You need a mix of draft, free agents, and trades to succeed. -

Sticking to a philosophy helped break free of the loser mentality. That same stubbornness is now a liability. Deciding what kind of defense you are going to play despite not having the players to play that effectively is just dumb. -

We are already back to the days of looking forward to the draft and the next season. No wonder we hang on to the draft picks. That’s our Super Bowl. -

Kennedy off the practice squad gets double the targets of TeSlaa. I wanted him to succeed so bad, but it was obviously another bad trade and pick. Either you have it or you don’t as a WR. -
