  1. Well that's how international signings work. Multiple players sign for 2-3+ mill every year.
  2. Yeah he signed at 16. He was less known publicly because the Tigers basically hid him from everyone else for a couple years before he signed. But yeah, he was just a lottery ticket, never really considered anything more than that.
  3. I can't speak for what the local newspapers were saying, but nationally there simply was not that much hype around Campos. In no way was he ever really considered some elite prospect or ever looked at as a future franchise cornerstone. And it's really weird to frame it as some huge mystery how he slipped into the US. He defected from Cuba years before he signed with the Tigers. He defected, like every single other Cuban player, when he had the opportunity to do so. We don't need to know the exact details of how it all went down.
  4. Imagine if we would've given up on Keith after 80 games. You need a sufficient sample size to evaluate performance. When your team sucks you can give players a little longer to see how they adjust/grow. Maton is simply not a example that supports your point. Almost 100 games is objectively not a lot.
  5. Nope. Just a really nonsense idea that is continually perpetuated. You draft the best players with no consideration for timelines. The bust rate of top draft picks is way too high to plan anything around them. There is also this thing in baseball where you can trade prospects for ML players. So those high school picks could actually contribute more to the ML roster in 2026 than a college player. Only an incredibly incompetent organization would draft based on hypothetical timelines.
  6. He needs to earn his way back into the core. Until he does that you can't count him as part of it.
  7. They don't draft players without knowing what it'll take to sign them.
  8. They knew what it would take before they made the pick.
  9. They did start Clark and McGonigle in the complex league last year.
  10. Twins with 3 of the top 4 and Willi at 13th.
  11. Hopefully they promote him and McGonigle after the draft. Want to get out to see them for the Whitecaps this year. What's the word with Briceno, is he gonna be coming back anytime soon?

  13. Keith takes 5 balls and strikes out looking.
  14. His HR rate is right in line with his rate from 2019-2021 and his BABIP is less than .015 higher than it was in 19 and 21. So yeah, both his current HR rate and BABIP are reasonably sustainable.
  15. Only JHM, Parker, and Canha have lower zone swing% than Riley on the Tigers. He falls behind in the count a lot, there is a reason he has such a high K rate despite having one of the lowest chase rates in the league. He's just good enough to make the approach work.
  16. Vierling is one of our 3 best hitter over the course of the season. Hitting him leadoff is reasonable given the lack of quality hitters.
  17. .200-.220 with around 20 HRs is a reasonable best case outcome, and combined with his defense in CF that would be a damn good player.
  18. Where do you get this data?
  19. Yeah the biggest thing he's missing is the plus command that he was supposed to have. You can get away without having great swing and miss stuff in the zone as long as you can consistently stay ahead in the count and use a mix of pitches to keep hitters off balance and get swings and misses on pitches out of the zone. The problem is Mize doesn't have the command to locate well enough within the zone yet to consistently induce takes and get ahead in the count. And then when he will get into 0-2 and 1-2 counts he will throw a couple breaking pitches that are a foot out of the zone so it's just an easy take for the hitter.
  20. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-38-prospects-detroit-tigers/ According to fangraphs he had a 60 grade splitter and slider, a 70 grade cutter, and a 55 grade fastball. Far cry from a guy who had no swing and miss pitches when he came out.
  21. By everyone. He was the consensus 1-1, that doesn't happen without showing plus pitches/tools.
  22. His splitter was considered a 60 grade pitch.
  23. He did ask my grandpa if he liked baseball, but he told him no cause it's too boring. So Scott explained the pitch clock to him and how it's really sped up the game. Apparently my grandpa also had a story about when he was working for Dominos he shared a hotel room with Tom Monaghan and Tom used his toothpaste.
  24. So the Monday after Father's day my grandpa went shopping at Jos A Bank in Birmingham. Afterwards he forgot where he had parked and was wandering around looking for his car when a lady carrying a baby saw him and offered to help. After driving him around for a while without finding the car my grandpa said to just drop him off so she could take the baby home. She refused to just leave him walking around during the heat wave so she took him to her house where her husband was working from home. The husband then drove my grandpa around to look for his car, but they still couldn't find it. My grandpa had left his phone in the car so eventually they called my uncle who was able to give them the location of the car. Anyways, it turns out that it was Scott Harris and his wife who drove my grandpa around Birmingham to help him find his car.
