  1. Carpenter should have been on third after Keith's single.
  2. Season long offensive struggles not withstanding, this is more of a great pitcher just in the zone than anything IMO.
  3. Dude had 10.97 K/9 last year, kinda surprised his career high was only 12.
  4. A dropped pop up, and then a routine grounder where they dropped the pitch to second. Ump also screwed him with a terrible call that would've resulted in a strikeout and but instead ended up a walk. Then he he struck the fourth batter out before being pulled.
  5. It will also probably result in a 300% increase in attendance from this year.
  6. You see that part where it says they were ranked #2 in the preseason prior? Could you be more disingenuous when it comes to anything involving Avila?
  7. If the drafted player reaches the majors and is a quality player there, the pick was a success. The odds of any one pick being the best possible pick are far too small for there to be any reason to compare who you got with somebody who was drafted after.
  8. Grayson Rodriguez is a good example for pushing Jobe to the majors as fast as possible. If you are dominating in the minors you keep pushing until they fail. If they struggle in the majors you can send them back down, just like with Grayson. And Grayson overall had a very promising year in the majors.
  9. Agreed, and Mannings statcast data is not good either. The only hope I have with Manning is that he can be a durable innings eater, which he hasn't come close to doing. But he does have the frame and build that looks capable of being a guy that can go out and give you 200 IP. A back of the rotation guy that can give you a mid 4 ERA is valuable, especially when that guy is cheap and under team control. But that's about all I'd hope for out of him at this point.
  10. It's being streamed on MLB.com.
  11. There was really no question about how Greene's bat would play at a corner. He was a top 5 pick when nobody was really expecting him to be anything more than a passable defender in a corner spot. His bat was always projected to play anywhere. And Clark certainly fits the mold of a two way player, though he's still got a ways to go.
  12. That was a suspended game. They played another, full, game today as well, which he played in.
  13. 2 for 3 with a 2B, HR, and BB today.
  14. Teams have always been free to suppress service time, and they have only ever done it for top prospects. If a guy isn't projected to be an impact player, he's not being held down to suppress service time, he's being held down because he's not good enough to force his way to the majors.
  15. Hoping to see Jobe get promoted to WM this year so I can catch one of his starts. Wonder if they might just keep him down in Lakeland though so he can get more reps, easier competition makes it easier to pitch deeper into games, and he still hasn't gotten past 4 IP in a start yet. Curious to see how cautious they are with managing his workload, and how much they're even looking to stretch him out this year. He's just barely past 100 IP in his career at this point. Coupled with his lack of pitching in HS, he's got so much less wear and tear on his arm compared to everyone else his age. But no way of knowing how he can hold up through 100 pitches or for a full season until he does it.
  16. That is no longer true for the NBA. Players can sign with approved agents and maintain their eligibility, but they have to withdraw their name before the draft. Hockey players can be drafted and still go back to college with their team retaining their rights. It's common even for first round picks to play an additional season in college.
  17. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/jackson-jobe-has-an-electric-arm-and-a-desire-to-expand-his-arsenal/
  18. I had a play like that in little league, except I knew I fucked up right away and raced back to the base and beat the tag. In the stands my dad also realized right away and commented to my mom that I was going to have to get back to the base. Embarrassing mistake.
  19. There was definitely discussion about how analytically advanced Houston was, and how Verlander was absorbing all that info. I recall Hinch making a comment about Verlander being the player who was most interested in all of the data they had. And the media absolutely portrayed it that way, but Verlander refuted that as he had already figured things out and was pitching great beforehand.
  20. I remember the exact opposite where in a ST interview the following year a reporter asked him about getting traded and turning things around, and Verlander replied that he had already turned things around before the trade.
  21. Looked like he was upset with himself at first.
  22. 10.2% is a plus BB%.
  23. Takes no effort for him to hire a search firm to make recommendations for him.
  24. A BB% of 15.2 is very encouraging. Not sure where he was on other lists, but fangraphs had him 5th in the pre season rankings, and I'd agree he's done nothing to really fall far off from that spot.
  25. What's the difference? Tony La Russa is their all-time best seller!
