  1. I couldn't have said it better.
  2. The Dodgers could be deferring more salary, or paying it out over fewer years, but this estimate brings the AAV of the deal down to a hair under $43 million a year. If the real deferral ends up being anything like this number it’s a huge bargain. Aaron Judge, who was a year older at the time he signed and also, you know, doesn’t pitch, got $40 million a year from the Yankees last year. Even if the MLBPA number lands closer to $50 million, this contract is a hometown discount. Particularly because Ohtani can create value for his employer the way no other player can. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-dodgers-have-signed-shohei-ohtani-what-does-it-all-mean/
  3. Most of the 700 million is being deferred, to avoid paying luxury tax.
  4. And hits 5 homers in that series.
  5. Fangraphs has an article that argues that they paid Ohtani what he's worth, as a hitter and pitcher combined.
  6. I'll be retired by the time Ohtani is done with that contract.
  7. Another thing here is, Rushing was just drafted in 22. Cartaya is on their 40 man. Cartaya struggled offensively last year. Rogers is a much better catcher than either Cartaya or Rushing.
  8. They wouldn't give up Rogers in the deal for Rushing. Rushing can't throw, he's not going to be a catcher.
  9. In my opinion, it would have been Cartaya.
  10. If Rogers was in the deal, then they were getting back a catcher, since they have 2 that are already blocked.
  11. Don't forget about the goalie from MSU, I heard that the Wings like him a lot.
  12. He has plenty of suitors.
  13. This isn't a good draft at the top. Some good hitters, but they're all position deficient. Two shortstops I have in mind for #11 are Seaver King from Wake Forest, and local kid Caleb Bonemer of Okemos. You hate to draft for need, but these are good players, and IMO SS is always a need, especially now.
  14. One thing that the pandemic did, and this is fascinating to me, is change the perception of the older players in the minors who can play in the majors. It's also an effect from the larger rosters.
  15. Holl is a righty shooter.
  16. As long as the Lions don't turn the ball over, they will beat the Bears.
  17. Snell is the opposite type of pitcher that Harris covets. He throws a lot of pitches and walks a lot of batters. No thanks for the price.
  18. Baseball is .500 every year, I predict.
  19. Ohtani is also a unicorn right now, obviously.
  20. Yamamoto: 9 years, 300 million. He's 25 years old. Reason why Ohtani only signed for 2.3 million is that he was too young to sign as a free agent, and had to go through the international signing process. Yamamoto is of age, but is a unicorn because he's so young and polished and talented.
  21. It would not shock me if the Dodgers were to sign both Yamamoto and Ohtani.
