I forgot how good stafford was at using timeouts on the defensive side of the ball.
-
I thought he drafted pretty well. The FA signings aren’t of concern to me because the lions were trying to take the best from scrap heap. You don’t often find good players there. It was understood that was the strategy coming in.

He has already had one go at hiring a staff. 9 games in he stripped the OC of his duties. So let’s assume he wanted to take over play calling so he could see what he wanted in the future. What OC talent is he going to attract? Anyone worth their salt will steer clear because they know meathead Campbell will take away their play calling first whiff of adversity. For me, the argument is boiled down to this: Pretty much every lions observer agreed at the beginning of the season that Campbell would have a long leash. First year of a 6 year deal with an incredibly untalented roster. The benefit of the doubt was built is. However, as the season progressed some of us reassessed the situation and allowed nuance. After 11 games, the gaffes Campbell have made are obvious of an amateur. What’s worse though, is he is doubling down. Because of this, it’s not a stretch to conclude he has caused damage beyond salvage and it’s not worth it to go through the motions of 2 more years. This isn’t unheard of in sports. Campbell hears the criticism, he talks about it in his conferences. And he keeps making the same mistakes and then adds worse ones on top. He is a lost cost. Cut your losses.

This thread was an awesome part of my thanksgiving. Thanks all. Love the passion. Go lions.

The issue is you keep qualifying it. And you narrow it to play calling. The lions have been awful for 60 years, of course the issues run deeper. Some now we should give Campbell a free pass because of it? Today was as bad as it gets for the lions. The team held in there only for their coach to vomit on the field at the end. That’s the biggest issue. This talentless bunch is playing hard, how long until they fully quit when their coach keeps losing the game at the end? His egregious inability to understand clock management, use of timeouts and basic odds is why they haven’t won’t a game. With a competent coaching staff this team would have 4 wins right now. Does that 4 wins help them in the long run? No. But does continually losing due to ineptitude hurt in the long run? It absolutely does. Campbell has shown zero ability to progress. His decision making has regressed to the point where every person in America watched today and saw the lions had a head coach who would struggle to make it through a madden game. And folks here want to say, “yeah I agree the play calling could improve but otherwise no issues.” This staff is fundamentally worse than Patrica. That is hard to phantom. But it’s true.

What are you even talking about? Just call it as it is. For some reason you, and others, have made some really weird conclusion that Campbell is beyond criticism this year.
-
I mean shoot, the egregious play calling goes back to the preseason. Bills were 4th and 10, 1:17 left, Campbell era about to start with a W. Lions, for some inexplicable reason, give price no safety help on the outside. Easy first down. Bills end up kicking a FG to win with no time left. It’s only gotten worse from them. By the time the lions start year 2 of the Campbell era they will have played 20 games and won none of them. Lost all 3 preseason games, will go 0-16-1 in the regular season. Campbell will be a lion employee for 19 months when the next years preseason begins and he will have experienced zero win. Every mistake he has made is being hand waved by many here. He has doubled down on his meat head philosophy and folks expect he will grow from it? Come on.

Not one surprise eh? What were your thoughts on the back to back timeouts? Honest question. Thoughts on this inexperienced coach taking over the play calling, not a surprise? You’re talking out both sides of your mouth. Both sides littered with illogical nonsense.
-
Another Campbell apologists. No mention of the back to back timeouts at the end. Campbell claims he didn’t want to give up a TD and thought the 5 yards was better. Giving up a TD would have literally given the lions the best odds to win. If Campbell is here in 2024 the lions will still be a bottom feeder.

Seriously, pound sand. There is nothing worse than someone telling others how much to invest in a sports team or not. You do you. Let others be themselves. Regardless of talent, the decision making is a real problem. Giving a free pass is the worst type of fan.

https://twitter.com/worldofisaac/status/1463977040688951306?s=21 this says it best for me. Campbell had a built in pass for the entire season. But has blown that with some really alarming decision making.

Patricia was better than this. Way better than this.
-
cant judge Campbell though. Too early. Not his fault.
-
Somehow Campbell was worse than what was discussed all game thread. This is unprofessional. He can’t retain his job. 16 play drive for the bears to win this game. Fitting that Campbell quit again the last time the lions touched the ball.
-
Ball game. What an amazing coaching blunder. This is more amateur than can be imagined. Bunch of people in here defending Campbell too. What an embarrassment.
-
Hahaha lions have to waste a timeout because the defense had no idea what is going on. Timeout after a timeout! With the game on the line. Campbell can’t be judged though.
-
Tied for most loses in one score games. Definitely not a coaching problem though.
-
Lions are gonna have to use timeouts if the bears get another first down. Methodical soul crushing drive here from the bears. This is going perfectly for Chicago.
-
Defense face planting when it matters. Never seen that before.
-
Campbell must never address holding with this team. They hold on every play on both sides of the ball. Probably not the coaches fault though. He doesn’t have anything to do with discipline.
-
Anything with long yardage is a draw play. Always a draw play.

Money time and the same issues are there. Coaches are not putting the players in a position to win.
