You win four straight in a middling season and this guy needs to pitch because we want to realize value out of a sunk cost. It is a bit demoralizing.

Hinch and his 2022 hitting staff was likely the primary information source on Willi. If they didn't want him, Harris saw it as an easy non-tender.

Willi's projected arbitration salary was $1.7 million for 2023. It's also possible that Harris was given the indication from Hinch and staff that Willi was never going to get it. Additionally, the Tigers hitting staff might not have unlocked what the Twins did. Harris saw the projected salary for tendering Willi and decided to go with someone else. This is a small move IMO and I'm not going to kill Harris for it.

I won't even blame Harris for it. He looked at the '21 and '22 numbers and figured the guy wasn't ever going to find consistency. His non-tender was probably a transition cost of changing regimes.

I'm not doing the revisionist history on Willi. The last two years in Detroit he had a 73 and 86 OPS+. He also wasn't good defensively at any position. I'll credit him and the Twins for improving his contact rate and power.

Wentz hasn't pitched since last Thursday...so he is essentially the mopup guy if Maeda implodes. It's interesting that every other start since Maeda has been pretty good(excluding the bullpen game).

Agreed...I dont think he's worth wasting development time on any longer. We have other lefties at Toledo who are tweeners(Lockhart, Hannifee). They should be the next lefties in line once Wentz has been removed.
