  1. A dude who's been the heart of this team and is in the conversation for 6th man of the year says he actually wants to be here and we just immediately go to, "it was a mistake" or "we're gonna pay for that later"? The fanbase trauma is hilarious, even when the team is exceeding all expectations.
  2. Yay for the Pistons. Booo for me. That probably means League Pass will put it on 3 hour delay. Might have to resort to...other options.
  3. ESPN's coverage is terrible and Perk might be the worst of them (though there are several contenders for that spot). I guess he's leading in that category.
  4. All Star teams got picked and they did a terrible job. Cade is on a team full of young guards, while Chuck picked all MVPs, and Shaq picked the old guard. It'll be a Shaq vs Chuck final, which I suppose is probably what they wanted anyway.
  5. I'm still trying to figure out why Garland shot two technical free throws on that Flagrant. I sorta get the one on Beasley who came in with a soft push.
  6. Looks like KJ and a second are re-routed to get Schroeder, so let me rephrase this: Gave up nothing and got a backup ballhandler and two 2nd round picks. Everything else I said still stands.
  7. Dust is still settling, but this is shaping up to be a very successful trade deadline for Trajan. Gave up nothing and got a backup ballhandler (Schroeder), and young 3-and-D wing with athleticism (Martin), and three 2nd round picks. Weaver would've given away picks to get another useless draft bust Center. They're playing with house money right now sitting somewhere between a 6-8 seed when most people had them as a 10th seed or lower to start the year if they were lucky. There was no need to sacrifice the future if the right deal wasn't there. Gain assets, improve on the margins, and see what happens. You probably need a healthy Ivey and access to your picks (after this draft) before you can make a significant trade anyway.
  8. I'd love to see that if only to give teams more ways to compete. But the reason it disappeared is because having that big man in the lane hurts the spacing and is not as efficient as driving and kicking to 4 shooters every time. You have to solve that problem first and then teams will start to look for other ways to score including post-ups and mid-range shots.
  9. Genuinely curious - what would that accomplish? The 3-second rule is all I can think of, but I'm not sure camping in the paint against a league full of shooters is going to help.
  10. That's because it's nearly impossible to stay in front and defend someone when they have all the rules in their favor. So you either give up a wide open layup, which is the highest percentage shot in the game, or you rotate and try to cover shooters after cutting off the drive. But with the corner three you can't move fast enough to cover every part of the court. All three of the things I posted above would alleviate this issue. Defenders would have the right to defend and not worry about the player initiating contact also getting the call. Illegal moving screens wouldn't be allowed to create the space they do today for offensive players to gain an advantage on drives. And finally, eliminating the corner three reduces some of the spacing, allowing defenses to recover more easily and actually defend.
  11. Another buzzer beater loss. Painful! I assumed we were going to get blitzed and all game it felt like the Cavs were just toying with us, so it was nice to be in it at the game. Just sad that Cade's 4th quarter performance gets wasted because he carried the team.
  12. I agree. But even if they took a more balanced approach, it would be better than what we have now. It wouldn't be that hard to accomplish either: 1. Allow defensive players the right to their space on the court - No more offensive players initiating contact and getting to the free throw line. At best it's a no-call, at worst an offensive foul instead of a defensive foul. 2. Eliminate the moving screens on every play. 3. Make the three point line a fixed length - that means eliminating the corner three. Do that and every team doesn't have to play the same brand of basketball where every player has to be able to space the court and chuck threes. It also gives defensive oriented teams a chance.
  13. All of the counting stat records are going to continue to be broken by this era of defense-less basketball. Unless the NBA changes the rules to rebalance the game, all of these "record breaking" moments will continue to happen and they'll continue to mean little to nothing. It's great for hype and so they've started giving us records based upon the "Play-by-play era" because that covers the lowest scoring era. Starting in 1997 means you can break records every day when the average team scored 95.6 in 1997 and now it's 113. That's an 18% increase. In fact, you'd have to go back to the late 60s to find a year where scoring was (just a touch) higher than it is now.
  14. It's a solid move that I like whether they flip it into another trade or not. At the very least you've nabbed a decent 3 and D wing on a small contract to bolster the bench, while adding more draft picks in the process. Nothing to complain about there.
  15. Exactly. I'm not switching automatically, but sometimes you have no choice and I'd rather be prepared for it with better defenders at multiple positions.
  16. Is Draymond headed out in the trade? If not, this could get interesting.
  17. That Trey shot was pretty sick and the lob call was pretty bad, but they lost this game long before that on the defensive end. The non-Ausar minutes were rough on defense. He was the only one slowing Trey down at all and JB should have had him on the court at all times when Trey was out there. Also, I get you want to build confidence in your guys but when it's a tie game and you need a stop, put Holland and Stew in the game so you can confidently switch everything if you need to.
  18. He didn't miss months of progress with a blood clot, gets more playing time, and didn't play for Monty who benched him early last season after he was getting the 3rd spot in the rookie of the year conversation. I think Amen's ceiling is probably a bit higher which is why he was picked earlier in the draft, but I also think Ausar would be much further along without those complications. I think of it as Ausar being 1 year behind in his development, much like when Cade lost a year to injury.
  19. I'd be fine with either THJ or Tec for Ball. THJ probably makes more sense because it's guard for guard so you could pop Ball in the starting lineup and then have him stagger with Cade to have a bench unit ballhandler like you did with Ivey. For Chicago, they'd get an expiring contract rather than an extra year of Tec. Either way, I don't think it happens. Ball is an injury risk and Trajan seems to be trying to avoid those after he escaped the injury version of the Titanic (Pelicans) just in time.
  20. What happened to the Windhorst prediction that all trades go through Detroit? Maybe those recent rumors were true that the team's strategy changed now that they're around 500 and threatening the 6th seed. In regards to Luka, all I can think is that Nico got a huge payday under the table to accept such a terrible return for Luka. With ratings down maybe the NBA kicked in some cash as well to make sure LA stays relevant for years to come. Other than that, there's no explanation for that return. It's so blatantly bad that there should be an investigation...unless the ones who would investigate it (the League) were involved in making it happen.
  21. I agree that he does the most with the least. Cade's been great, no doubt. But you don't get double digit assists without guys like Beasley (40%), Ivey (40%), and THJ (38%) knocking down threes add a respectable clip. Saw a stat a few weeks ago that Beasley was the guy who Cade assists most. We had nothing like that last year. The roster still needs a lot of help, but it's light years better than last year's roster of mostly dudes who aren't even in the league anymore. Cade's numbers are better, but with those guys on the team and a real coach he probably could've been an All-Star last year too.
  22. This is what I said the other night - Orlando's identity feels more dangerous, reckless, and dirty than hustle.
  23. Excellent! First time since the Going to Work era that I've felt good about a Piston All-Star.
  24. I'm with Blaha. I really don't like this Indy team.
  25. Well, if they don't care about the impact on historical stats, can we also fix the three point line so it stays the same distance and just runs off the edge (no corner threes)? This era where everyone has to be a spacer has just gotten boring with every team doing the same thing. I'd like to see more styles of basketball. While we are it can address real issues like the defenders right to THEIR space on the court and the rampant moving screens? Let these teams play defense.
