Week Six: Detroit Lions (3-1) @ Dallas Cowboys (3-2)
NYLion replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
It's impossible to replace what Hutch brings but I think a collective effort of guys will help to make the loss much less painful, Paschal for one has stepped up big time. I have the utmost confidence in this group to figure it out but obviously the loss of Hutch will be felt. -

It sucks especially for Hutch but I think we need to just move forward. This team is much bigger than just one person no matter how good he is, I honestly don't think the Lions will skip much of a beat not only because they have a bunch of talented guys but also because this culture runs deep. It's also good news that it appears there was no ligament/nerve damage so Hutch will very likely make a full recovery if not be stronger. My biggest concern when it happened was it being a career altering injury but it appears that the break was clean, best case scenario all things considered. -

Insanity especially the way Holmes drafts. Hutchinson's career isn't over, they just need a guy for this year. Completely unrealistic anyway, no chance that Holmes is going to mortgage the future for one player nor should be tbh. The Lions don't need a Crosby level player to win a Superbowl but, yes, they do need a pass rusher that commands attention now. Will just have to see how the market fleshes out over the next 3 weeks as the sellers start to emerge, the Bengals winning last night was a blow although I'm not sure how realistic Hendrickson was anyway. -

I don't think Brad/Dan will ever trade for a guy that held out. He'd be a good fit and a buy low option though. -

Hendrickson is the best realistic option but knowing Holmes I'm not sure how realistic it is that he goes that big. Crosby is completely unrealistic. In any event, lets just hope for the Bengals to keep losing so he can shake loose. -

The Hutch injury is devastating to state the obvious and you can't replace a guy like that but if any team is a "next man up" type of team it's this one. Holmes will have to a make a significant trade of some sort but I think the Lions will be ok, it's a culture thing and that offense is going to always be the driving force for this team anyway. In any event, I feel for Hutch the person just hoping he makes a full recovery. The Lions as a team just need to move forward now as to do us fans. -
I'd actually be shocked if any of those 5 are still there next season. Those seats are piping hot. Stefanski got dealt the worst hand, he's been a good coach but is victim to arguably the worst trade in NFL history that brought in the serial molester.

Who would have thought that Rutgers would be the must watch team in College Basketball yet....here we are. I don't think Flagg is a surefire #1 either. I don't see him as a generational can't miss prospect so I think some discussions will be had about who goes #1 towards the end of the season. Either way, this will be a much more interesting draft class to follow after last years' debacle from start to finish.

Beginning of a brutal stretch. Road games at Dallas, Minnesota, Houston and Green Bay in 4 of the next 5. Win 2 of those and the Lions will be in good shape headed into the second half of the season. The entire rest of the schedule is very challenging but this stretch in particular could shape their season. -
I'm not convinced that Saleh was the wrong hire for the Jets. Their issues go way deeper than the coaches, it's not like he's a Patricia level disaster where everybody regressed under his watch. Can't win in this league with a one dimensional offense that isn't even that good at that one dimension engineered by a bust and a fossil that can barely move.

Best division in football and not sure it's really that close right now. This should toughen up the Lions going into the playoffs.

I wasn't a big fan of the early bye going into the season but now I think it's coming at the right time. The Lions have a tough stretch coming out of the bye and were starting to turn into a bit of a MASH unit so this will give an extra week for some guys to heal up.

Week Four: Seattle Seahawks (3-0) @ Detroit Lions (2-1)

They're young outside of Davis. I think most people reasonably thought that it would take time to gel. -

I know I shouldn't take the bait but here I go... They were 13-4 last season just about went to the Superbowl two years after being the worst franchise in football and are 3-1 this season. Yes Johnson and Glenn have flaws like just about every coach does but. my man, you need to take it down a couple of notches. Sheesh -

Lol, I missed Aikman saying that but it's true. I think Terrion will be a good player but he takes "grabby" to another level, calm down young man. -

Good win, defense looked really gassed in the 2nd half but managed to make the big plays when it mattered. Lions got really lucky with that offensive PI on 4th down, this could have been a completely different game had that call not been made. Regardless, you take the win but there's a lot to clean up defensively especially. -

I'm not buying stock in Seattle yet. They beat Bo Nix in his first start, Walter White's wife and the Tankriots. Seattle has plenty of talent and shouldn't be underestimated but I'm not convinced that they're a playoff team yet. -

Division is really tough, probably the toughest division in the league, the Lions have to win games like this at home. Plus the schedule gets quite a bit tougher after the bye week, can't lose this game. -

Yeah I agree and the most important thing is no long term commitments, not one albatross contract on the books which is an extreme rarity in the league. The only real bad contracts he added was Romeo Okwara and Walker but those guys had injuries that nobody saw coming, they were solid players pre-injury. I guess the Cominsky contract isn't great but that's small potatoes. -

Holmes is arguably the best drafter in the league but there's been a lot of whiffs in free agency banking on previously injured guys to contribute. Started with Williams and Perriman in his first free agency class, Moseley, CJGJ, Davenport and a few others that aren't immediately coming to mind. The good thing is that they were all low risk deals so no harm no foul but it does hurt depth. In fairness, Holmes has had some hits. Anzalone and Reynolds were two big ones, Raymond and Cominsky were for a time, Harris for a year, Jamaal Williams for a year, Monty obviously, Zeitler and Reader could be big contributors so actually more good than bad now that I look at it and no long term commitments with those guys either outside of Anzalone and Montgomery who are on sweetheart contracts. Damn, Holmes is pretty freaking good lol. Even something that might be seen as a negative on the surface with free agency is still in the positive column for him overall. -

The only injury that really concerns me is Ragnow. I know he can play through a lot of pain but a torn pec is a tough one to play with. All the other injuries are next man up situations but I don't know how they can replace Frank if he's out long term. -

Lots of teams are figuring things out early in the season, this isn't exclusive to the Lions. The Niners and Ravens are 1-2, the Cowboys are a mess (although this isn't shocking), the Bengals are 0-2. The Steelers, Seahawks and Vikings are 3-0, who had that on their bingo card? The Lions are 2-1 while figuring their **** out (and really handed that game to the Bucs), we should all take that. I know it's engrained in the psyche of some Lions fans (the SOL mentality) to default to negative at the slight hint of adversity but I'm not overly concerned about the offense, they'll get going eventually. My biggest concern continues to be for the millionth time the lack of a #3 receiver. Holmes depending on Raymond and some guy who hasn't played football in 3 years in Patrick to fill the Josh Reynolds role when he had enough cap space to fill the void baffled me this offseason and continues to baffle me, they're not getting anything from these guys like literally almost zero in 3 games. The Lions are lacking that Jared Goff safety outlet and it's bogging the offense down on 3rd downs too often, this is something that needs to be addressed.
