Meh, I'm fine with it. Would have preferred top 3 but I don't see much of a spread between 1-6 in this draft. The biggest takeaway to the Pistons not finishing top 3 is that they are likely in the market for a big man now and are likely out on Brunson if they don't take Murray. Hoping for Sharpe or Mathurin, would be ok with Murray or even Ivey.

He's obviously a skilled guy but this video really displays nothing. I don't know if I'd call this putting on a "show" playing one on one with the rim.

I'm not nearly as invested into this lottery as I was last year. Last year, there were 3 must have prospects at the top of the draft with Cade being the most must have. This year, I like the potential of some of the 2nd tier guys just as much as the top guys (Sharpe and Mathurin namely) so if the Pistons fall to 5 or 6 I'm ok with it. Of course, I prefer 1-3 but it's not nearly as much of a necessity as it was last year.

I think it's far more likely that they extend him. I don't think Weaver is interested at all in trading him, it seems to be a case of him willing to listen to offers but will only pull the trigger if an offer blows him away. I think he sees him as a core player based on what we hear about how much he values Grant from a culture standpoint.

I really like these later round picks. Mitchell would have gone higher if not for his injury and they badly needed a tight end and Rodriguez is small but he's athletic and is pretty good in coverage. Big fan of the Joseph pick last night. They needed a playmaker at safety alongside Walker who is more of a thumper and Joseph is a ball hawk. I think Holmes is slaying this draft. I hope they take a chance on Carson Strong with one of these two picks. He has arguably the strongest (pun intended) arms in the draft. The issue is mobility and potential chronic knee issues but in the 6th/7th, why the hell not?
-
Potentially serious knee injury and he's really short. I still would have taken the chance on him though
-
I don't know much about Paschal but he was getting a lot of 2nd round buzz late in the process so we'll just have to trust the scouting on this one. I like that they're building the lines at least.

It was a 1 year contract and Williams has separation speed that Chark can only dream of having. Chark is more of a "contested catch" guy.
-
That's fair and your point about finding good receivers lower in the draft is a valid one but Williams has special talent. He's a taller, thinner Tyreke Hill basically. The separation he gains on the regular is incredible and he did this against high level NFL talent, just shredded Georgia when he played them. You have a chance to get premier talent like that, you go get him.
-
It's not a luxury pick when you have a desperate need for a gamebreaker. Williams was arguably the biggest gamebreaker of this draft offense and defense included and they did it for a relatively cheap price. Maybe they could have taken somebody like Hamilton with the trade up but I don't see him as a big game changer like Williams has the potential to be.

Most of the media is gushing a about the Lions draft (and the New York teams, rightfully so) so that means only one thing... that Hutchinson and Williams will bust.
-
It was reported that he was well ahead of schedule with his recovery which is why he was shooting up mock draft boards the last several weeks. Apparently, he could be good to go as early as Training Camp although these situations are fluid so we'll see.
-
Yes, you're correct. Filed into the large list of Lion fuck ups regardless.
-
Laken Tomlinson, or was it Cherilus that they traded up for. One of those guys

It's not Cine and Dean vs. Williams. It's Cine and Dean vs. Williams and whoever they pick at 46. Hell, if they get Dean at 46, it could be Williams and Dean. Unlikely, but a man can dream. That's what made this trade so lopsided, the 2nd coming back from the Vikings. It's essentially 12+46 for 32+34 which alone is a win for the Lions so Holmes basically added a 3rd to move up 20 spots in the 1st round. There was a team that added two 4ths and a 5th just to move from 15 to 13. Think about that for a minute. That's an absolute steal valuewise especially for a team that needs starpower, dynamic playmakers.
-
I don't think QB is in the cards this year. Them making this move for Williams signals to me that they're riding with Goff for a while, building around him at least for the near future. At this point, it needs to be a defense heavy draft. Preferably best LB or S available at 46 then best defensive player available most of the other picks outside of maybe taking another tight end since the depth is really shallow after Hock. I have a feeling that Holmes wouldn't take Willis even if he fell to 46.
-
Yeah. I think Holmes did great here. If Willis somehow drops to 46, that would be icing on the cake, assuming that Holmes is interested in taking him. I hope they go safety or linebacker. Dean is still on the board, Brisker, Petrie. Some good talent left.
-
Ok guys, just got home from a draft party and didn't read through the comments. Crazy ass night, what does everybody think? The Hutch pick was obviously a good one and I think I love that Holmes went bold and got the most dynamic receiver in the draft and the value of the trade was great IMO. Swapped 1sts, swapped 2nds (which was of much lower value than the 1st swap for the Vikings) and gave up a 3rd. Am I missing anything or is this a great "value" trade for Holmes and the Lions? Pretty exciting day I think and we still have a 2nd and 3rd tomorrow to fill other holes. Willis at 46 possibly?
-
I doubt the Bulls would have beaten Milwaukee either way but they really missed Lonzo Ball. It was a totally different team after he got injured.
-
Yeah, agreed with all this. Plus his big personality will keep things entertaining and my god do we need some entertainment in Lions football. Of course, if he doesn't perform on the field none of that matters but it's just an added factor with him.
-
It's crazy. I remember thinking during the college football playoff that I'd be happy with Walker..... at 32 then after the combine, he makes an unprecedented rise up the draft charts based purely on his athletic grades. I think that's due to two things, no real elite prospects in this draft and the really high value on athletic edge rushers.
-
Lets say, hypothetically, that the Jags take Walker (which seems increasingly likely), how would you guys feel if the Lions took Thibodeaux over Hutch? I've seen some rumors that they value KT higher than Hutch. Personally, I find Thibs to be the more "exciting" pick, a swing for a more dynamic player and personality but also much higher risk. The Lions are starved for starpower and Thibs is the one player (on the defensive side) with real star potential so I'd be cool with the risk but I bet that a lot of Lions fans would riot.

I don't know how reliable Jack Fischer is but, this is what he said recently... Grant seemed to be at the top of their list. He and Lillard have a relationship dating back to their days with Team USA, and they share an interest in playing together once again, sources said. In years prior, Lillard has indicated to Portland leadership several two-way, rangy wings such as Grant, Ben Simmons, Aaron Gordon and Jaylen Brown as the type of playing partner he preferred, sources said. Grant has been linked to them heavily for months now and the rumors around the deadline were that they were designing this offseason around building a contender to keep Lillard happy so while they might not want to give up the pick for Grant, they might have to or risk frustrating Lillard even further. Personally, I think they're stupid for taking this route and they should blow it up but, hey, if they want to be stupid Weaver is here to take advantage of the stupidity if need be.

The articles I read on that back in January stated that he met the one year requirement. I don't know, it would be pretty crazy for them to give him the go ahead to declare only to rip it right from him. I'm pretty sure his "team" did their due diligence so I can't imagine that they'd go ahead with this if there was any doubt concerning his eligibility.
-
It's possible that I'm reading too much into it. In any event, it's an extreme longshot that the Lions land him anyway.
