I think Kieth is more likely to for the simple reason that he is a top 100 prospect and has the long shot possibility of netting a draft pick if he would be ROY. I think they’re likely to bring him north unless he shows he isn’t ready in the spring. If he shows he is overwhelmed they can always send him down, but they have no chance of the pick unless they bring him north at the beginning or he keeps rookie eligibility through 2024. If they think he’ll be ready by say June, I think he’s up opening day just because of that caveat.

I think the bigger thing right now is saving the 40 man spots for flexibility around the Rule 5 time - remember 60 day DL players need to be put back on the 40 in the offseason. And Harris has shown a desire to have flexibility to claim and then potentially pass through waivers guys as a way to build the organization. Add that to the few protections we need to make and I can easily see why he wouldn't add 2 guys now who would for sure be staying on the 40 man.

Oh, and Garroppolo and then Purdy both saved the SF's season last year. If Purdy had to come in right away, it is very unlikely they would have been in the position they were at the time he actually needed to play.

If the Lions valued Bridgewater as only a 5th round pick, they wouldn't have signed him. They had all offseason to sign Wentz, Ryan, etc but didn't view them the same way as Bridgewater. Bridgewater now has a month plus in the system which any new guy would have to learn. A quality backup that can give the team a reasonable chance is critical to a team with deep playoff hopes/expectations. And people need to stop thinking Brady is a viable option for anyone but the Raiders. His ownership share basically eliminates every other team from signing him unless he sells/foregoes his ownership.

As I said in another thread, it would be so old Lions to trade Bridgewater in the year they are contending only to watch Goff go down and their season be over. The best the Jets could offer is a 2024 3rd round pick. No way am I considering trading Bridgewater for that. Hopefully he never sees the field for the Lions, but they need the insurance this season. I guess if the Jets offered Garret Wilson our Sauce Gardner I'd be interested, but there isn't a realistic offer I would trade him for at this point in the season. Now if Hooker is back by the trade deadline and they are comfortable with his development (I'd be shocked if that was the case so quickly), then I might listen to offers, but the point is to have a viable backup if Goff would go down for an extended time so the Lions' hopes aren't ruined like the Jets are.

It definitely wouldn’t be a first or likely even a 2nd or 3rd. I think the go with Wilson and sign someone like Flacco, Wentz, or McCoy to back him up. They definitely aren’t going past next week with Tim Boyle as their backup

It would be so old Lions to trade your experienced backup who has learned your system when you are actually expecting to do big things and then see Goff get hurt and your season be over. I don’t see any way they even consider trading Bridgwater for any realistic value they would get.

Hooker said one of the first people to reach out to him was Goff. And how much we was looking forward to learning from him. Holmes had said they’ve been upfront with Goff all draft process so this clearly wasn’t a surprise and they are confident it won’t be an issue. Goff isn’t Aaron Rogers or even Ryan Tannehill who won’t help the backup.

In hindsight they made the right decision drafting Hurts when they had Wentz. They don’t go to the Super Bowl this year if they didn’t.

No season is a lost season before it starts. 2021 was considered lost by May 1 and look what happened. It takes a whole lot of ifs, but if Meadows and Baez revert to near career norms and Tork hits like he did through 3 levels of the minors, Greene improves, 1 of Baddoo or Carpenter progresses and Schoop, Kreidler, Lipscious, or Malloy is league average offensively, suddenly the offense doesn't look so bad. You can go through the pitching staff the same way. Is it likely? No, but the offseason isn't close to over and there is a path, albeit a very, very, extremely miniscule path, if no further moves were made. Best of all, we still play in one of the worst divisions in baseball.

They did throw a few - Boyd, Lorenzen, and Malloy, plus like Edman said, all of the behind the scenes coaching staff, development, scouting, and training. But I know, those aren't enough because they didn't offer arbitration to Candelario, the Castros, and Reyes.

If you are not going to game, just watching on TV and are so upset you aren't willing to give the new FO even the who offseason before writing them off for not picking up free agents they weren't after anyway, why don't you root for the Mets or another team that is doing what you want? I totally get the frustration of the past seasons, but we never realistically were going to sign the vast majority of the players who are off the market, nor should we have. There are many ways to build the team and we are roughly 1 month into the offseason. I doubt many of the players Harris has targeted are now unavailable. And saying Illitch doesn't care is absurd also IMO as last offseason he was more than willing to spend when it looked like a SS, a starter, and a LF could take the team from 77 wins to playoff contention.

Personally I don't think he is a great coach. I think they drafted great late, and had a great team, but I think there are a number of coaches that could have had similar success.

That's why I don't think McVay is an offensive genius. I think he originally did that more, but then expected Goff to continue to grow in ways Goff wasn't capable. McVay seems stubborn to me where Campbell, Johnson, and Glenn build their systems around their players skills.

I think McVay treated Goff unfairly and expected more of him than Goff could do. I don't think he is a quarterback whisperer. I think he wants to run what he wants to run and doesn't care if it fits the player. I do think Stafford was a significant upgrade for what McVay wanted to run. And I think Goff would have been much worse in Detroit than Stafford was under Patricia. I think Goff is a solid QB that teams can win with. There is an article out on the Athletic about revisiting QB tiers and for this year they would move Goff from Tier 3 (preseason where they ranked him 22) to mid Tier 2, but most surveyed still believed he was upper Tier 3 (in the 15-20 range) going forward. You can win with that. How Goff finishes out this season will definitely be a factor. If he finishes strong which I hope and believe he will, not much changes from now. If his weapons/line are mostly healthy and he falters the last 4 weeks, that definitely has to be something to consider.
