  1. I wouldn't be surprised if Harris tries to trade Baez, similar to how Dombrowski traded Prince for Kinsler. Maybe not right away, but maybe next off-season after Baez regains some value.
  2. Those two hits are also very important as it keeps Judge in the lead for batting average (.3170 to .3166 by Xander Bogaerts) and his lead in all 3 triple crown categories.
  3. According to WAR, Miggy's last good year was in 2016, around a 5-win player. Since then, he's been a -2-win player over the last 6 years.
  4. To be fair, half those guys are always on the injured list.
  5. The Tigers had 4 years of losing after Dombrowski took over until they had a winning season. This is after a previous 8 year losing streak. The Tigers are in a similar position now, so I wouldn't expect a winning season until 2027 at the earliest.
  6. Do people know the pitching side of homer milestones? Who gave up #700 to Bonds, Aaron, and Ruth? Who gave up #756 to Bonds? Robert Fick hit the last homer in Tiger Stadium. Who did he hit it off of?
  7. It's the title Dombrowski currently holds in Philadelphia.
  8. Aaron Judge has 59 home runs. He needs 3 more to get to 62, which isn't the record, but it will be the most since the steroid era. Albert Pujols has 698 career home runs and just needs 2 more to be the 4th player to hit 700.
  9. I didn't neccesarily mean those specific people. Those are just the ones I know of off-hand. The fact that Ilitch might not know who to hire shouldn't matter as I'm sure there are people in the organization who do (other than Hinch). Which is why I want a clean slate, new GM, new manager, new coaches.
  10. Do they still employ "special assistants," such as Jim Leyland, Willie Horton and formally Al Kaline? Shouldn't this group be a heavy influence on who to hire?
  11. I don't think Ilitch wants to lose either. The Tigers franchise is going to increase in value and make him money regardless if they win or lose. Of course if he had the choice, he'd chose winning. But I also don't think there's any incentive for him to try to win either. He just hopes that everything falls into place with minimum effort.
  12. I think Chris Ilitch is very disinterested in owning the Tigers and is just going through the motions. I don't see the same passion in him as I did with his father. I don't think he wants to sell because it would feel like he would be letting down his father. I don't think he really cares about who the next GM will be, which is why there's talk of Hinch being involved in the selection process (and why I think Menzin will ultimately take over permanently). I think if Ilitch had it his way, Avilia would still be the GM, but he fired him to appease the fan base and not because he thinks it will be better for the Tigers. I don't think he really cares how the Tigers do. If he really wants to have a better team, he would have also fired Hinch and all the coaching staff along with Avila. Ilitch is just doing the bare minimum to try to keep the fans happy. That's just my perspective of things. I could be wrong.
  13. I think I saw Hinch batting Willi Castro 3rd once this year. Everyone just saw that as normal.
  14. I agree with this. They need to get rid of Schoop and move Baez to 2B and get a SS. They need to move on from Cabrera. They need a new 3B, LF, RF and DH. Maybe Kreidler can fill in at 3B. Maybe Carpenter can fill in at LF. Maybe Meadows can stay healthy and DH. Maybe Reyes can fill in at RF. Maybe none of these work out. I want to see big changes in the off-season. I want to see they new GM make an unexpected trade, like when Dombrowski traded Granderson. I'm tired of "safe," and predictable moves.
  15. I think the game start times is a major problem that needs to be addressed. There's no reason why the All-Star Game should start as late at 8:00pm. No playoff game should start at 10:00pm. I know they want to spread the games out throughout the day, but with half the teams making it to the playoffs, there's going to be overlapping games regardless. It's all about corporate greed, getting at much ad money as possible. This is a business that doesn't need corporate greed. Every single owner has a main business that makes them rich. They can all afford to sacrifice a little to make the game more accessible to people. None of the rule changes fixes any actual problems that MLB has.
  16. I never played baseball. I was never any good at it. The reason I was drawn to it was because the played at a slow enough pace that I was able to follow along. I could never get into basketball of football because I never could figure out what was going on. I loved that I was able to strategize along with the manager in baseball. I couldn't do that in other sports because it was too fast paced.
  17. Ok, compromise. Have some start earlier and others stay the same. Why should all the punishment be on the east coast? The 9:30pm start time on Labor Day should have never been allowed to happen.
  18. I don't see how banning the shift solves anything. The only thing that makes sense is that they want more offense to appeal to the younger generation. They are removing strategy in favor of more action because that's what they think the kids want to see. If you want younger fans, try this: - Eliminate all 9:30/10:00pm games. How can you expect kids to stay up past midnight to watch a full game and be ready for school the next day? - Eliminate blackout restrictions. Most people in their late teens/early twenties use streaming services and will be more than happy to pay for MLB.tv if they were able to watch their hometown teams. - Better promotion of your best players. Every kid should know who Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and Aaron Judge are even if they are not baseball fans. The same way they promoted Ken Griffey Jr., Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa in the 90s. Sure, the home run record race helped, but you don't need a special event in order to promote your players. Are they doing these rule changes in hopes to create another race? "Hey maybe if we eliminate the shift, someone could hit .400!" I wouldn't doubt if that was their mindset.
  19. The "Steroid Era" from around 1998-2005.
  20. We might be entering a new modern era with the universal DH and expanded interleague play.
  21. The Tigers have a .288 winning% over their last 52 games. If they continue at that pace for the rest of the year, they'll finish at 59-103.
  22. 9:38pm start time on a holiday? Someone screwed up.
  23. I compared Baddoo to Austin Jackson before, and I'm sticking to it.
  24. Quote from Chris Ilitch on 2/24/17 after taking over the Tigers: https://www.mlb.com/news/christopher-ilitch-on-detroit-tigers-future-c216939122
  25. Anyone remember this letter the Tigers sent season ticket holders to "be patient"? https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2017/08/31/long-letter-fans-tigers-plead-patience/105147446/ It's been five years and the Tigers are no better off now than then.
