  1. I would hope the new GM would want to come in and clean house and get the players that he wants. What we have obviously isn't working, so changes need to be made. This means getting rid of guys like Schoop, Candelario, Barnhart, both Castros, and yes, even Miggy. This also might be the time to move Baez to 2B. C Jake Rogers/Eric Haase 1B Spencer Torkelson 2B Javier Baez SS Someone New 3B Someone New LF Akil Baddoo/Victor Reyes CF Riley Greene RF Someone New DH Austin Meadows For the bench, Kody Clemens could easily replace a Castro. There's still Daz Cameron and Kerry Carpenter for another OF. Bench players are a dime a dozen, so replenishing these players should be easy. You could argue that whoever they get to replace these guys wouldn't be any better than who they currently have (especially if they don't want to raise the payroll). But the way I see it, the further they get away from the failure of the current management, the better.
  2. The Tigers may have lost 7 in a row, but Oakland has lost 8 in a row.
  3. If the new GM allows Cabrera to be on this team in 2023, then he'll be no better than Avila. I don't care how good he was in his prime. the objective is to field the best 26 players, and Cabrera just isn't one of them anymore. No player should ever be in position to determine his roster position and playing time. If management allows that, then they have completely lost control of the clubhouse. The Tigers need a clean slate. A new GM, manager/coaching staff, scouting, player development, etc. Sure, they may mean getting rid of a few good coaches, but everyone is replaceable. This could be 2002 all over again, when they fired Randy Smith and Phil Garner. The Tigers could be back in the playoffs in 3-4 years, but they need to make changes and get the right people in the right positions.
  4. I'm all for trying the Hinch as GM experiment. It means having a new GM and a new manager, which they desperately need.
  5. The worst teams this year: Washington Nationals 36-71 Oakland Athletics 41-66 Detroit Tigers 42-65 Chicago Cubs 41-63 KC Royals 42-64 The Tigers are only 1 game better than the A's. They are 6 games better than the Nats. The Tigers do have a realistic chance of being the worst team this year (and a very good chance of being the worst team in the AL).
  6. Instead of paying him $32 million now, you want to pay him $110 million over 22 years (or $216,961,450 given a 6% interest rate)? No, give him the $32 million now and be done with it.
  7. I want to revisit this. Brad Miller signed with the Rangers for 2 years/$10 million and isn't hitting any better than Torkelson. Gonzalez signed a minor league deal with the Yanks and has played 55 ML games (1 at 1B) with production better than Tork. Cabrera didn't sign with anyone. I do want to point out that Tork wasn't ready and I really wish they would've signed someone capable of playing 1B, but at least they didn't move Schoop back there.
  8. I assume claiming him means taking on his full salary.
  9. Claimed? No. Sign him to as a free agent for league minimum? I don't think it'll hurt.
  10. And letting Chase Anderson walk was the right thing to do because everything the Tigers do is the right thing to do.
  11. Of course. And when/if they get healthy that's when you release Keuchel. He is no way a long-term solution.
  12. Can Rony Garcia really be counted on to get significant innings? He hasn't been a regular starter since 2019 in AA. The fact that they were desperate enough to start Garcia shows their lack of depth. I'm willing to bet the reason he got injured was because they were trying to push him beyond his limits. Maybe Keuchel isn't the answer, but I do believe they need some outside help.
  13. You say that as if they aren't currently in a tankathon.
  14. The Tigers are finished.
  15. I believe Keuchel can give more innings and given past performances support this. I also don't think De Jesus or El. Rodriguez has a future and neither of them have a track record at all. All 3 can be removed from the 40-man roster.
  16. I'd rather have Kuechel. He has a better track record.
  17. De Jesus, Hutchison, or El. Rodriguez. Probably Hutchison. He's 31 and has no future.
  18. If someone is going to get injured for being overworked, I'd rather it be Keuchel than one of our young starters. If he doesn't get injured, he'll give much needed innings. It's a lost season. Wins don't matter. I don't care what his ERA is. Our young players need to stay healthy.
  19. Dallas Keuchel has been DFA'd again.
  20. Looking at it from that angle, it would probably be another Juan Gonzalez situation.
  21. The Tigers didn't trade for Cabrera until after they had two winning seasons in 2006/07. This team isn't close to that level yet.
  22. Tigers had to give up 2 top 10 prospects to get Cabrera. Think Greene and Torkelson.
  23. What a major disappointment. The worst coverage I have ever seen. Miggy gets 1 AB and they don't show any of it. They didn't even acknowledge that he was batting. Not a single word of it. This could very well be his final All-Star game, his last hurrah, and they don't say anything about it. Instead they are showing David Ortiz goofing off in the dugout. Way too many players were mic'd up and they were having actual conversations with pitchers while they were pitching. Such a disaster! Then there are the uniforms. I really like the uniforms, however it just feels wrong with them not wearing their normal uniforms during the game. The whole game felt wrong. I really used to enjoy the All-Star game. I look forward to it each year. But now I don't care to watch it next year. Congratulations MLB, you've turned me away from the All-Star game. You've done the complete opposite of what you were trying to do.
  24. I've heard this about Willi Castro too. "He's one of the Tigers hitters that is actually hitting! You can't get rid of him!" He has a below average 84 OPS+ and 80 wRC+. His OBP is below .300 and his SLG is below .400. His WAR is going to be below 1.0, while 2.0 is considered average. Of course I want to get rid of him, and we haven't even discussed his defense yet. Just because his offense production is slightly better than 80% of the team, doesn't mean he's "good." And no, we are not "showcasing" him. No contending team is going to want to give up anything, much less anything of value, for this AAAA player. There's only 2 players that the Tigers should keep, Greene and Torkelson, and Torkelson needs more time in AAA. Everyone else can go. That's how bad they've been. Reyes and H. Castro could be useful in utility roles. Meadows may be fine if/when he gets completely healthy.
