  1. We have like 6 Defensmen on 1 year contracts right now. I'm just hoping some of them are worth something at the trade deadline. Maybe packaging some of them with Cossa could get something good. I'm excited with Husso and Ned right now for sure.
  2. Wow this thread will be a lot more interesting next year ehh?
  3. This is spot on. Or raid someone from the Tampa Bay system. Tampa and Dodgers are far and above the best in the league.....
  4. Too soon? Naaaa.... Tigers will have a top 3 pick (hopefully)! Hah, Hey look! A player from LSU who could go #1!!! We LOVE LSU! https://www.oddschecker.com/us/insight/baseball/mlb/20220803-2023-mlb-mock-draft-ranking-the-top-30-2023-mlb-draft-prospects https://www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/2022/1/15/2023-mlb-draft-prospects
  5. Exactly. Illitch isn't poor by any means. We literally could be the Dodgers 2.0 (to an extent). If we could get the brains of the Tampa Bay and the Tigers Payroll where it could/should be, we'd be WS contenders every year for the next 20 years..... The Dodgers constantly have 5+ players in the top 100 of all MLB. Every year they develop players. They then trade them for stars and pay them big time because they have so many and no where for them to go.... The Tigers could absolutely do this if we didn't have a moronic GM. If Al Avila says in the news that they "couldn't get a good offer" for their Bullpen arms tomorrow in the news, he needs to be fired. He couldn't get a deal done because the other GM's wouldn't take him seriously and have an honest conversation with him. I know this is gonna sound dumb, but if your in a fantasy baseball or fantasy football or any fantasy league, there's always one owner in that league that people usually just ignore even if they have decent stuff on their roster that they may be willing to move. I honestly feel that's how MLB GM's feel about Avila. That is why he needs to be moved on from......
  6. I think we also need to stop signing guys that hit for power, but strike out 25% + every time. Look at our draft picks.... We always take power with high Strikeout rates.... We need OBP machines and guys that strike out 10-15% of the time. I was fervantly against signing Baez when Correa was still available because of just that. The Tigers are LOADED with lineups year, after year, after year with high strikeouts. I'd bet any amount of money you want that in the last 20 years, the Tigers have struck out more times than any other MLB team. Probably by quite a large margin too. We go after the wrong type of hitters and have for a long time. Smith, Dombrowski, Avila... They all have done it and continue to do it. It does no good having 9 guys batting .220 with 20+ HR's.... You need 3-5 hitters hitting .275+ in order to dream of being competitive. Until this changes, we are going to suck. It just amazes me how the Tigers are the only team in MLB that doesn't seem to "get it".
  7. We need to take an executive from a team that knows how to build from within. I love that we took coaches from the Dodgers last year. But we need to look at the Assistant GM or Scouting Directors from Tampa Bay, Dodgers, San Diego, or Blue Jays. Get someone who knows how to get the RIGHT young guys into the system..... I'd really love them to snipe someone from Tampa Bay. But thats a wish list....
  8. I said back in December that we'd have probably the worst line up in the AL if not all of MLB. It was pretty obvious... Chasfh nailed it head on though. We are going to be stuck on this hampster wheel for quite a while. Avila did nail the draft two years ago though with Keith, Cabrera, Dingler, and Workman. I'm still not sold on Cruz. But the others could be regulars. That was probably one of the best overall drafts (even though it was 5 rounds) that the Tigers have had in the last half century, if not longer..... Now we just need to hope that some of them pan out and Greene, Tork and Baez remember how to hit. I really think Greene and Tork will be just fine next year and especially the year after. Baez should be decent (not great). But thats 3 out of 9 hitters we need. If we can get 2 or 3 more from our current farm (Jung) and then suppliment with 2 really good signings, we'll be right back into it. But again, this is still 2-3 years from where we are now... and even that might be wishful thinking. I'd love a new GM though.
  9. Just curious. Do you think the era also has something to do with how good hitters are? I mean back in the '60s and '70s, 90 mph was considered extreme. Now guys are hitting 105. Do you really think Williams would compete with pitchers throwing 105 mph nowadays? Also, sac flies used to count as hits. So you have to keep that in consideration with talking about batting average, on base % and total hits.
  10. I lost all respect for Miggy when he hit his wife...... He can go at any time.
  11. Isn't it crazy that people are already talking about firing Campbell? Man I hope they give him a fair shake to turn the ship around. I think he's on the right track.
  12. Would you retire if all you had to do was be there and you get a check for $185,185.19 each day you show up for work? And thats only 162 days next year...... (30 mil/162 days). I would be out there on my death bed.....
  13. I'm willing to bet once he's dealt (yes I know, more than likely not to us!), it will be for half that cost. I'm going to go with a current young player, teams top prospect (maybe their 2nd best prospect) and two B level prospects. Again, I'm not advocating Greene or Tork on the trade. Others are. I think it could be done without that if we actually made a legitimate offer (and again if we could work out a contract extension before finalizing the deal so its for 10 years not two). The Nationals NEED pitching. They have lots of position players but beyond Cade Cavalli, they are STARVING for pitching. And even Cade is supposed to be a #3 at best.... Oof.
  14. He CRUSHED Single A after getting demoted. So hopefully he has the confidence to just keep goin non stop from here on out. Hopefully the same thing will happen to Tork. Get a breather, figure it out, go back to MLB an tear it up!
  15. https://theathletic.com/3435069/2022/07/20/juan-soto-mlb-trade-market/ - These trade offers are more in line with my proposal. No one is close to offering Greene + Tork...... Just saying, he's not gonna cost nearly what you guys would think.... Skubal + Jobe would be a great foundation for a trade piece.... at least thats approximating based off the writers at the Athletic are saying.... Seems they are saying 1 younger MLB + a top prospect + a mid range prospect or two. Skubal and Jobe fit that....
  16. My Boy's up to a .822 OPS this month in AA!!!! Start believing folks!
  17. I'm just proposing this because its what we did with Cabrera (to an extent). We were just coming out of a rebuild getting legitamacy with Pudge and Magglio too around the same time frame. If we make the trade, you can put it on the condition an extension is signed. Otherwise, yes wait till Free Agency. I just think having that exclusive window will be very beneficial versus trying to out bid the Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees, Mets and the other big boys. The Tigers can afford to make this trade now and afford to sign him. That is why I think they should do it (assuming we get that contract extension). But its just my $0.02.
  18. No player is worth that much. Bruh, but you're right that Avila might be stupid enough to pay something like that. In order to get Cabrera we had to trade 2 top 50 prospects (Maybin and Miller). They get that in Skubal and Jobe from my trade proposal. The rest would be sweeteners to finish up the pricing. Dingler is no slouch, nor is Madden. But those two could be interchangeable with other prospects in our system like Olson, or Keith.....
  19. Tigers should trade for Juan Soto. I'm saying it here. The Tigers should offer Dingler, Jobe, Skubal and someone like Ty Madden for Juan Soto. I literally called the Cabrera trade with my friends before it happened and I would love to see something like this. But if you add Soto to Greene, Torkelson, and Baez.... That could be the core going forward. Jung in a couple of years too.... We have the space, can afford to trade from the dearth of starters, and we can easily afford Soto's contract and he'd be the heir apparent to franchise player that we are losing next year in Cabrera. Like I said, this is a stupid opinion. But it would re-energize the fan base showing ownership cares, we'd be dealing from extreme depth we have and it would really solve a few problems including giving us that bonafide true Superstar. This team could salvage itself in two years vs what we are looking 3-5 years down the road without. Just thought I'd mention it........
  20. We've got what, 9 Mil left in salary cap?
  21. Same school as Porcello right?
  22. These games are super fun to go to. They are literally sold out almost every game though and tickets are ridiculously hard to find..... Baseball can learn something here from them for sure.........
  23. He rebuilt the organizations though. Thats what I like about him. The Cubs built a "home grown" team. Same for the Red Sox. He knows how to get the right young guys. At least for one good run. I'd love to see what he can do.
  24. https://detroitsportsnation.com/dear-chris-ilitch-give-theo-epstein-a-blank-check-and-get-out-of-the-way/ddrysdale/mlb/detroit-tigers-news/07/16/2022/284253/ Saw this. It'd be interesting and my number one choice. Or hire one of Friedman's lieutenants away.... Thoughts on this?
  25. So I'm assuming those guys are kind of like unicorns..... Now that we've improved our team, our draft pick will likely be later and our chances of getting the #1 or 2 pick is a lot smaller. So how do we get those type of guys? Or are we now in NHL purgatory and there's not much we can do?
