2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion
AlaskanTigersFan replied to LongLiveMaroth's topic in Detroit Tigers
This is basically dead on. Everyone on our roster should be on the table right now. Including Greene and Skubal. The Tigers are in no mans land and even with the farm system they have, they lack "ELITE" prospects barring Clark and Jobe. If the Tigers can trade Greene and/or Skubal and the return for either is two top 25 prospects plus two other top 100 prospects (or at least another top 100 prospect and someone semi decent), they need to seriously consider that. No one on this roster should be untouchable. Skubal is an Ace in this league. Those don't grow on trees which I can understand keeping him. But barring him, no one is a superstar. Greene is a first division regular but he's not on the superstar level. We need to get out of no mans land and it involves getting higher end prospects. If the O's offered me Basallo, Mayo, Cowser and either Povich or Norby for SKubal, I'd do that in a heartbeat. Or if they did Holliday, Mayo,Cowser and Povich for Skubal and McGonical. THOSE are the types of deals they need to make. Heck Corbin Burnes got two premium prospects and a 1st round pick for him.... Skubal's price should be ASTRONOMICAL. NOW is when they should cash it. Those are the types of deals that set up franchises for success. Gets us out of the no mans land we are in. -
Red Wings 2024 Off-Season Thread
AlaskanTigersFan replied to Mr.TaterSalad's topic in Detroit Red Wings
With all this talk about who pairs where and what not, help an illiterate hockey fan out. Who on our team is absolute slam dunk keepers. From my take its: Dylan Larken Seider Raymond Edvinson And from my understanding only Seider and Raymond are TRUE Superstars. I guess Larkin's star isn't nearly as shiny as he once was thought but still a good player. Is Edvinsson in the same caliber as Seider? Beyond those four, is there really any one else that is "untouchable" as far as the roster goes? -
https://www.motownlions.com/2024/06/20/nfl-analyst-suggests-the-lions-trade-hendon-hooker-and-sign-veteran-quarterback-with-ties-to-dan-campbell/ Someone please explain this to me. Why would the Lions use a third rounder on this guy to trade him for a 4th or later? I don't understand why so many people want to trade Hendon Hooker. To me, if he can start somewhere else, that makes him a premium backup. Why not (if he's ready) use him as your backup, cut Nate Sudfeld or send him to the practice squad? To me, having HH around is a benefit. I think HH is better than Sudfeld now, and God forbid if Goff went down, who would we want out there? Also, Aaron Rodgers sat behind Brett Farve for YEARS just like Jordan Love sat behind Aaron Rodgers. I guess I'm not understanding why we wouldn't want a successor to be in our system for multiple years. Even if he isn't the successor, to have a premium backup at QB of all places isn't a bad thing is it? Who cares how old he is. He can play in the NFL for 10 years. If he's a premium backup for 10 years, so be it. What am I missing? P.S. - Ryan Tannehill is a good player. But he's looking for a job. So why would the Raiders as mentioned in this article trade a pick when they can sign Ryan without dumping a pick.... That too doesn't make sense. Now if some team offered a 1st rounder for HH, then we should pay someone to pack his bags. But anything else, forget about it.

I've had a little insider information so it is cool to be on the "know" for some small things. But I can tell you that it was hard this year because the Pistons didn't have veterans around to show the young kids "how to be pros". The Pistons tried to bring in some veterans later but my friend made a point when you have a rookie making $5mil a year and you sign a vet for $2 million for 2 years, do you really think the rookies going to listen to him? So Monty had to deal with some of that. Realistically, who on the Roster is worth building around? Cade, Duran and......? I don't think Cade is a franchise player that everyone thinks he is. My co-worker who used to be a D1 coach said even he was a little skeptical.... I think Cade can be a starter and a good one, but he's not the face of the franchise type from what I've seen. So who else besides those two is worth keeping around? Does the new GM (when we get one) just say we are "open for business" and we literally start all over again? Or are there pieces to build around. My buddy said we should overpay for someone like Klay Thompson to bring him in and get the culture shift there. But he mentioned no ones going to want to go to Detroit so we'll have to overpay for someone regardless. Curious to know all your thoughts on that..... Is it the start of a new rebuild or are there pieces here....

It's amazing how everyone was so excited when he was hired. Gores went out and paid "whatever it took" to get the BEST. After one year of a bum roster and everyone is happy now. I don't know... does't seem right but I don't know a lot about NBA. I hope Monty just shrugs and says "ok" while going to go buy a beach house today to put his feet up for the next 40 years.....

Williams is a good coach from everything I've heard. The team he was given was trash and injured on top of that. No one could of won with the guys he had and dealing with the injuries he had to deal with. Dumb move imo. Should have given him one more year to see what happens. Will be interesting to see what happens next.

Red Wings 2024 Off-Season Thread
AlaskanTigersFan replied to Mr.TaterSalad's topic in Detroit Red Wings
Thanks for the perspective. It seems like the Red Wings are kind of stuck in no mans land. They aren't quite good enough to be legit NHL contenders, but they have a lot of young pieces that are just now coming to be expensive so they can't really go and sign the players to push them over the edges because they have too much money tied up into the young players they are hoping to be superstars. Is that a fair assessment? -

So where's the value that other teams will see in him? Maybe he's not worth as much to be a cornerstone of a trade? -

https://www.motownredwings.com/2024/06/16/hurricanes-mock-trade-necas-to-red-wings-for-berggren-more/ So looking at this and multiple other articles, why do the Wings sour on Berggren so much? This article paints him as a stud.... Why would we deal someone like this if this is an are of need? -

Isn't Cossa 2-3 years away realistically? -
Need a new Goalie (work with me here)
AlaskanTigersFan replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Red Wings
So someone once posted a graph that shows the results of NHL players being drafted by rounds that make it to the NHL. It was something rediculously stupid that like 90% of all players that make it to the NHL are 1st and 2nd rounders. Why wouldn't Steve just offer their 1st this year, 2nd next and Cossa for the best Goalie in the league? It'd be overpay but it'd serve the price and that goalie should last until Augustine is ready anyway right? Seems like draft picks are kind of useless if they aren't a 1st or 2nd rounder for the most part.......... -
Ok, just curious. Like I mentioned in another thread, I don't know jack about NHL.. But when it comes to baseball, I'm pretty in tune I think. So applying the same logic of trading prospects for an established player....... If we wanted a good true #1 goalie lets say Andrei Vasilevskiy, what would we have to give up in terms of prospect value? Using NHL.com's prospect list (and thehockeywriters.com), what would it cost for him???.... 1. Simon Edvinsson 2. Marco Kasper 3. Nate Danielson 4. Axel Sandin Pellikka 5. Carter Mazur 6. Albert Johannson 7. Cossa 8. Wallinder 9. Dmitry Buchelnikov 10. Amadeus Lombardi Would Edvinsson and Carter Mazur and Cossa be enough? Or would it cost more or less (is there a combination of our top 10 that would be enough)? Just trying to gauge value. Thanks.

I know jack about hockey. But I do look like a genius right now......

Pistons to hire Trajan Langdon as POBO
AlaskanTigersFan replied to Deleterious's topic in Detroit Pistons
Just curious. But Monty had a crap roster, and 3/4 of the guys were injured for 3/4 of the season. We all praised the hiring 12 months ago, now most people have pitchforks out for him...... How in the world did everyone turn on him so fast? 12 months ago he was best coach in league. I think he had a bum roster. If they fire monty, they are dumber than a box of bricks. That'd be like Mahomes and Kelce getting hurt for the Cheifs and they go 7-9 and they want to fire Andy Reid....... Makes no sense. Give Monty another season and see what he can do with a legit NBA roster....... If they fire him, they literally cannot find anyone better...... -

2024 Detroit Tigers Spring Training Thread

2025-2026 Lineup 1B- Torkelson 2B. - Keith SS - Baez 3B - Jung LF - Clark CF - Meadows RF - Greene DH - ????? C- ???? I think thats the pipe dream. I'd love for Dingler to be the Catcher of the future but don't think that'll happen. I don't think Kerry Carpenter is the real deal. I don't think Meadows is the real deal either. I hope I'm wrong. But taht's 4 spots that need to be replaced in the lineup. I'd throw Baez in there too but with his contract, he's going NO WHERE. With only 5 spots I feel comfortable with and thats being gracious to the young guys (especially Clark), thats my reasoning for another need of a true ball player. A best case scenario is above and even that is dreaming for the most optimistic of us all..... Meanwhile, we have MLB pitchers in: Mize Skubal Maeda Flaherty Olson Faedo with Madden, Montero, Flores and Gipson-Long right behind them. We can and should be making a move now, but we need young guys. Next year we can play in Free Agency. Maybe we can snag Walker Beuhler in Free Agency. There's pieces here but we need more talent on the field every day..... -
2024 Detroit Tigers Spring Training Thread
AlaskanTigersFan replied to Tigeraholic1's topic in Detroit Tigers
The Tigers might have a (dare I say) surplus of SP. There's another wave behind that. I really think they should trade one of their starters not named Skubal for a legit position player. I get that we are still a year or two away from competitive baseball, but now would be the time to get a young buck in here. I still want Cowser from Baltiomore. I think he can be had too since they have Stowers waiting in the wings. -
Scruggs is out..... who replaces him? Hopefully a good recruiter..... I thought Scruggs was supposed to be an Ace recruiter as it was. Oi vey.
