  1. You would still have dynasties, but based on talent and acumen, pure competition, not disproportionate resource advantages.
  2. You can limit the number of playoff teams without relegation, it adds nothing. I see no correlation.
  3. That seems like a lot of machinations, when all they need to do is share media revenue.
  4. I'm not sold on Haase as a regular catcher, I think his best role is as a utility guy.
  5. Relegation, to me, smacks of the mentality that the best way to manage is through fear and punishment, and I've just never subscribed to that, that is that worst way to manage any system.
  6. Injuries have taken the shine off of Feliciano's skills. If he can recover those, he's a very promising pickup.
  7. That is the problem, but it's not the mythical one I was addressing, however, relegation would address neither.
  8. It's an assumed solution to a mythical problem.
  9. I'm not sure where this angst comes from. MLB has a problem with parity, the other leagues don't. It's hard to argue that players aren't well compensated. If you think too many teams qualify for the playoffs, just state that, without conflating it with irrelevant issues like relegation.
  10. Lol! They just need to share revenues equitably.
  11. The NFL, NBA, NHL all have a system that allows all clubs to compete on a level field, MLB still has an inequitable system that they have not fixed.
  12. Leagues; the NFL, MLB, NBA, are single entities competing for the entertainment dollar. Teams are franchises of such entities. The overall health of the entity is dependent on each team having similar opportunity to be competitive, not a system like relegation, where there are a few perennial haves, and a lot of struggling have nots with basically no chance.
  13. Do you follow European sports? You dont want that. It may sound good, but it isn't, in practice.
  14. Both Boyd and Lorenzen can be very solid major league starters, if they're healthy, but that's a big if. On the other hand, every pitcher alive is a health risk.
  15. Sure, but how many franchises can just buy a competitive team? First you have to build a competitive core and talent stream. You don't put the cart before the horse.
  16. Might be a hell of an outfielder or 1b, also he's young, third is still a possibility, but he'll have to keep the weight down. He was 250 in the fall league, which led to some stiffness around the bag.
  17. I wouldn't put any faith in the report that the Tigers offered a lower contract. If they'd wanted to keep Candelario, they would have made it happen.
  18. Hey, they've made it fun, interesting and exciting, they compete.
  19. With baseball, it's not so much what you've done, but what your potential is. With that caliber of stuff, there is always the thought that some refinement will get him over the hump. Stuff has value.
  20. You know this on December 17? Maybe wait and see what he puts on the field in April.
  21. 3 things: 1, I don't know if y'all have noticed, but Avila is gone, so you can quit bashing him and move on. 2, Ilitch hasn't restricted spending, rest assured, the Tigers will have a budget at, or above, what is prudent for their market.I 3, you all act like bidding on premium free agents is the only way to become competitive. Those types of free agents are the siding and roofing of roster construction, there are many other avenues to building a consistent, successful franchise.
