I think he gets the yips...presses too much...which leads to more failure...and more pressure. That whole "fill their nets with pucks" bit from draft night maybe should have been seen as a warning sign that his head wasn't right.
I remember Fred Williams...that was bust..and a half. I think Rasmussen's development was slowed by their insistence on molding him into a 3C. He's far better on the wing. His play really improved once they moved him there..in fact the team immediately fell out of the playoff chase after he got hurt. Looking forward to seeing what he can do in a top 6 role
You can't just magically say..."do better" when you have no understanding of what doing better would actually cost to the extent that "doing better" is even possible
Adding Connor McDavid would do the same thing...without knowing the market...what the ask is on established talent... it's too easy to just say "do more"
Rogers is pretty similar to Avila...or at least what I recall of Avila. Good power...high OBP..excellent receiver who's really good at framing pitches.
Note...in my world..high OBP is determined by points over BA. Rogers has consistently posted an OBP thats 75-100 pts above his BA
So if Ottawa was steadfast in wanting pick #9 and DeBrincat wanted a max extension...SY should have just rolled over? Or if Toronto wanted Edvinsson, Kapser and a slew of picks...we should make the trade?
Libor Sulak...that's a name I haven't thought of in awhile. Kenny steered this thing into the rocks. I don't think SY is interested in an approach that gets us a 7th or 8th seed in the playoffs...just making the playoffs isn't the goal. Building a roster and leaving space to take a swing at adding the final touches when you're ready too contend is.
