I want to crap on the Bulls before Buddha can. Patrick Williams will make $18 million per year for the next 4 years. Herb Jones will make $19.4 million for the next 5 years.
-
My Herb Jones dream goes up in smoke. Pretty sure that means he can't be traded for 6 months. The Pelicans are going to be a wild team. So much mismanagement, but then they have a couple of gems. Herb Jones at 5 years and $97 million is a fantastic contract. Then they have Trey Murphy for 4 years and $112 million. That might be the best non-rookie contract in the entire league. Things are pretty bleak after that, though.

The article said the owner of the card displays it at shows and lists it as not for sale. The Ripken card was #2 on the list.

The Athletic did a story about the most unflattering sports cards. Tobias was #1. I guess they give away part of a game worn uniform. The uniform is from his Clipper days and Bumble was their uniform sponsor.

For now

OK, they obviously wanted to announce it on their own day, which makes sense. Funny how they report this deal could reach $287 million but reported Chet's as just $250 million. They are identical contracts. Both could reach $287 million, even if Chet seems less likely.

Looks like they removed all of the dumb 23 stuff. But this is the house Jordan had been trying to sell outside of Chicago for over 10 years. $105,000 for a 7 day rental. I wouldn't even if I could afford it.

Othman isn't a nobody, he's a player. A little shocked, he would turn this over to AI. My first thought is he is only acting in a consulting role and won't have much to do with the place at all. A name for the marquee, so to speak. This is interesting, but not huge news. The big news will be when they can start to reliably automate kitchen duties. I would have bet good money that Layden passed away 20 years ago.
-
I sure as hell wouldn't want him on my team. He is just as responsible for what happened out there as KD was.

Those deals happen quite a bit in the NBA. But you can't use the dollar amount to compare when each league has a different salary cap. A $40 million contract in the NFL is about 14% of the salary cap. A guy like Schröder was just traded for like 12% of the salary cap and the Pistons took back zero salary. Very different dollar amounts, but very similar salary cap percentages.

I had to look it up, and I assume you are talking about the Tunsil trade. They were able to make that trade because Washington had $40 million in cap space to absorb him. Good news! Had Phoenix found a team with the cap space to take on KD's contract, they could also make that trade without taking money back. Just like the NFL.

The internet should just be for ****posting like this.

It changes year to year, I'm sure. But enough teams were so far below the cap they put a rule in to punish those teams. Plus, teams that are over will be just barely over. It was their choice to give 52% of BRI or 55%. Not the absurd number it would be required to go to a hard cap. Look, I'm a very casual NFL fan. I watch our Lions and not much else. Are you telling me in the NFL I can trade $50 million Goff for a $3 million linebacker straight up? My guess is, because of the hard cap, I have to trade a $50 million player for another $50 million player. Or I have to have $30 million cap space and can trade my $50 million player for a $20 million player + my cap space. If so, that is almost identical to the NBA trade rules.

Not sure if documentaries go in the movie or TV thread. Becoming Led Zeppelin - I don't watch a ton of music docs. But this has to be one of the best I ever saw. Great interviews, and excellent live footage. Not just clips, they play entire songs. The sound was excellent as well, especially when you consider some of those performances are 50+ years old. Big Zeppelin fan, but I think casual would enjoy this as well. Pee-Wee as Himself - Another fantastic doc. That man had some serious trust and control issues. He asked the doc maker if he could sit in on interviews. That is what a control freak he was. Seemed to screw quite a few people over. I had forgotten about the child porn charges. He was pretty adamant he was innocent, and he did plea to a lesser charge, but I don't know. Overall really well done but you could probably pass it over if you were not a Pee-Wee fan.

No, the real problem will be telling 20-25 owners that the current 51% of basketball related income they give the players isn't enough. How do you think they will react when they are told to move to a hard cap and keep the union off of our back, we will probably have to up the player's share to 70% of all basketball related income. No system is perfect, but the current one works pretty well. It lets owners spend more if they want, without locking them into some absurd revenue sharing situation like I described above. It also does a nice job of getting the players paid. It also lets players move around pretty freely. Trade deadlines are active, and the third most popular US sport arguably has the best offseason. Same situation for fans. Most fans don't sit around making up their own trade scenarios. At best, they regurgitate what the talking heads tell them can happen. Hard cap or current system, that probably doesn't change much. But all the exceptions open an entire new aspect of fandom to a small group of people who enjoy that. While still letting the majority of fans carry on, oblivious to most of that stuff.

The Pistons will be in the East Group B division of the Nobody Gives a **** tournament.
-
Pretty sure he was entered in another tournament that was running at the same time. That is why he originally stated he wasn't playing the main event this year. He wanted to enter tournament he had better odds of winning. I was shocked to see him in the ME.

Using his name on my quote? He has never looked more intelligent.

Nice. Who is telling the players union they are about to take a 50% pay cut?

SL kinda sucks without a high pick to watch.

New does not mean complicated. It's actually fairly simple. You have the salary cap, which we have had for years. 1st and 2nd apron are 127% and 134% of the cap. Each apron has increased penalties against the teams in them, and the penalties increase if they are in the aprons for multiple years. The feeling is it will help spread talent around the league and not let the top organizations hoard it. I say as long as people are willing to give Bradley Beal $50 million a year, there isn't a CBA rule around that can save them. Some are saying you already see it working with the pretty low contracts being handed out this summer. I wouldn't go that far, since only one team had cap space this summer. Next year, a bunch of teams project to have a lot of cap space. I would bet a lot of money the dumb ass contracts come back.
